Rat Tops CG Retrospective '07 List
2007-12-26 03:48:00
The well-respected CGSociety have posted their 2007 CG Retrospective, which counts down the top 20 "events, films and product upgrades that made the year of 2007 such a milestone. "On this list, we have one of the best films of the year, Ratatouille. I thought this would win. ‘Ratatouille’ is a brilliantly entertaining movie that reaffirms Pixar's reputation as a CG animation leader. They produced a CG film of true quality. The story was also the big winner in this film. The characters are fully developed. Congratulations to the Pixar artists on winning first place in this year's Retrospective Poll. says CGSociety editor, Paul Hellard. Also coming in at No. 14 was RenderMan Pro Server 13.5. Congratulations to everyone at Pixar for a great year. ...

WALL•E Trailer During The Superbowl?
2007-12-24 04:16:00
Variety via The Pixar Blog reports the list of studios signed on to deliver advertisements during the upcoming Superbowl on Feburary 3 from Phoenix, Arizona. Disney said it was still considering which movies to offer, though "Wall-E," the next toon from Pixar Animation Studios, is a contender, as is "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian." says the article. My take is that Narnia will be easier to promote as it is a sequel, however WALL•E is original and Disney might want to capture everyone's attention with a very cute, but perhaps mysterious trailer, not much different in fact to the one we just received. In which case I think WALL•E deserves the limelight even if Narnia is due for a May release and WALL•E a June release. Do you agree? ...

Up Retells Don Quixote? [Updated]
2007-12-23 23:07:00
Upcoming Pixar reader Joe points to Up's Wikipedia entry which has some new information about the film which does seem to have that ring of truth to it. The entry tells us: Insider sources say this new film is a re-telling, somewhat, of the classic Don Quixote fable. Joe adds, "Disney has tried forever to make an animated movie based on Don Quixote, maybe this is John Lassetter's way of realizing one of Walt's unfulfilled dream projects?". Since it's Wikipedia, we can't easily judge its authenticity nor its accuracy, however, what do you think? Thanks Joe.UPDATE: I've decided to add some more information to add credence to this piece of information. From TIME Magazine, we know this about Up: "Pete Docter and co-director Bob Peterson are preparing this "coming-of-old-age story" about a seventysomething guy who lives in a house that "looks like your grand-parents' house smelled." He befriends a clueless young Wilderness Ranger and gets into lots of alter kocker altercations. S ...
IMDB Lists New WALL•E Character
2007-12-22 22:37:00
IMDB via The Pixar Blog is listing a new character in WALL•E. The character is called Hoverchair Mother and is played by Kim Kopf. Interestingly, TPB notes: Interestingly, the 'voice only' designation is not placed next to her name. Hmm, could this mean another live action character in WALL-E, or is it just a typo? What do you think? ...

The film has been honoured by all the other critic societies including the Washington D.C. Film Critics Association (I mention it because I haven't reported that win yet). Jim Hill Talks Pixar with Leslie Iwerks
2007-12-11 22:45:00
Just briefly, Jim Hill caught up with documentary filmmaker, Leslie Iwerks, and they chatted about the making of The Pixar Story. Here is an interesting tidbit from the article. Of course, what's kind of ironic about this screening being held in the holiday season is ... Well, if John Lasseter hadn't suggested that Pixar should pitch Disney on the idea of making this 30-minute-long CG holiday special (Which was to have been called "A Tin Toy Christmas" and starred the title character of that animation studio's 1988 Academy Award-winning short, "Tin Toy") ... Well, there probably wouldn't then have been a "Toy Story." Read the full piece here. ...

WALL•E Trailer Attached To National Teasure 2? [Updated]
2007-12-05 06:14:00
JV Pixar News reports a source tells him that the theatrical trailer for WALL•E will be attached to National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets later this month in the US on the 21st. His source says, “It’s not attached, but enclosed in the can.” which it's like a Pixar short and attached to the reel. I take this as Disney making sure we all see the trailer if we see NT2. Also the source reveals that the trailer doesn't show it all, but rather keeps us guessing. Hearing this it makes me think Cloverfield, the mystery monster movie due out in January. The marketing styles used between WALL•E and Cloverfield are very similar. Both have used viral websites, and both have had mysterious trailers that keep us guessing. Not that I am doubting the integrity of JV's source, and I'm not saying I don't believe what they are saying, but a contact of mine doesn't know of any theatrical trailer for WALL•E yet. All I am saying is don't get your hopes up. It seem Australia (me!), Hungary and Pu ...

THQ Not Creating Toy Story 3 VG
2007-12-04 22:37:00
GamesIndustry.biz is reporting that THQ are not creating the video game for Toy Story 3, due out in 2010, because it doesn't have the rights to do so. Currently, THQ only have a deal for 4 video games after the merger, starting with Ratatouille. The deal also includes WALL•E, Up and the unannounced 2011 project. Farrell noted that THQ never had any rights to Toy Story 3, so it was no surprise to them that Disney has decided to develop the videogames internally. The film itself is currently scheduled for a 2010 release.Because THQ's current licensing agreement gives them the rights to develop videogame sequels, it won't actually expire until 2014. says the article.Read the full deal here. ...
