Forum Find: The MyLot Message Board
2008-05-06 22:13:44
mylot 2 Originally uploaded by life_changes The MyLot Message Board is a message board that pays you to participate. After taking some time to surf the site a little bit however, I am finding that there are many more benefits to this board than that.Spending so much time on the internet, I have seen a handful of websites come to the surface that pays for users to post to their message board. The MyLot Message Board is the one paid message board that I endorse, because they really take message boards to a new level. When you visit the MyLot website, you might confuse the website for a social networking community, because the look of the site is not your mama’s message board. You can add friends and are given a personal profile to custom design, unlike a standard message board profile. The most important factor to the success of MyLot is the way they categorize your personal interests. When you join the site you will find that the interests you select determine the discussions t ...
Community Review: The Truth About Yahoo!
2008-05-06 22:13:32
Yahoo Home Originally uploaded by life_changes Yahoo.com is one of the original social networking sites online. But when Yahoo founders Jerry Yang and David Filo first opened the web site back in 1994, it was only intended for use as a web directory. I remember joining Yahoo! around 1999, to check out the discussion groups which where then referred to as Yahoo! Clubs. These clubs were not well known, but the people who did know about them inadvertently joined in and egged on a social epidemic known as social networking. Yahoo! built an infrastructure of community, and the people gravitated towards it. Yahoo! was ONE of the original online communities, but like I said, they didn’t start out this way. Launching as a web directory during the early dot-com days brought Yahoo! one million hits in their first year. This showed the founders the business potential in developing the website and Yahoo! incorporated in 1995, officially going public the next year in 1996. You can read the ...

Post Secret Blog Originally uploaded by life_changes PostSecret is a blog that I like to visit now and then, and I truly envy this blog because of its popularity. The PostSecret Blog was created in 2004 by Frank Warren, and has since become one of the top three most popular blogs online, with a handful of spin off books to match. You can read more stats on the blog here, and you can read an interview with Frank Warren here. When you visit the blog, you will see immediately why it is so popular, and will be mesmerized by the posts there. What you will find when you visit the PostSecret Blog is photo posts with secrets written on the photos. The photos are from postcards that have been sent to Frank Warren, with personal secrets written on them. Reading the secret divulged on each photo is an emotional experience and I am sure it is for the people who send in the secrets as well.Ultimately, the PostSecret Blog has given the world a platform for releasing personal secrets in a hea ...
Socialite Showcase: Prince Harry

Here on the Online Socialite blog I strive to showcase socialites who have achieved celebrity status. In this post I plan to showcase an international celebrity who has become a socialite thru his personal charisma and captivating life. Prince Henry of Wales (commonly known as Prince Harry) is third in line to the British Throne and the younger son of The Prince of Wales and his first wife Diana, Princess of Wales. As a ‘royal celebrity’, Prince Harry is widely recognized for his role as a young prince and all aspects of his life attract a high degree of media attention. Having grown up in front of the eyes of the world, many people worldwide keep tabs on the different aspects of his life. His biography on the Prince of Wales website even lists his birth weight! (here) The world has consistently followed the life of Prince Harry and older brother Prince William - especially through the loss of their mother Princess Diana in 1997. Prince Harry has been called ”The People’s Prin ...
Blog Envy: Digital Inspiration

Digital Inspiration Originally uploaded by life_changes Hello there how are things? I hope that all is going well with you! Thank you for visiting the Online Socialite blog and reading this weeks post called Blog Envy. For this post I had the hard task of choosing a blog to follow up the awesome blogs that I have posted about already, Post Secrets and Lesbiatopia. I am an avid web surfer and constantly add new blogs to my bookmarks as I go. There are plenty of blogs that I consider to be favorites, but one blog that I truly do have a certain level of envy for is a blog called Digital Inspirations which can be found at Labnol.org. This is a blog that I envy for its high level of readership, active message board, and clean layout. The number one reason that I envy this blog however, is because of its content. The blog owner is an engineer from India named Amit Agarwal, and he is a very knowledgeable person who has given his all when it comes to this blog. The result is a highly ...
Forum Find: AskMen.com

AskMen.com Originally uploaded by life_changes Last week for my Community Review I posted an article about iVillage for women – this week I decided to even things out and find a forum for men. Now I have to say that I have been on the internet since about 1997, and I have a great deal of online experience. When I decided to post a Forum Find for men, I realized that there were no message boards that instantly came to mind. You might think that because I am a woman I might not be in touch with the likes of a man, however I am a lesbian woman, and with this comes an appreciation of women that helps me to relate to a man’s plight somewhat. Since I’m a female I’ve never signed up as a member at any male website that I have surfed through, but as a lesbian I have enjoyed the articles and photos of them when passing through. That being said the first site that came to mind was Maxim Magazine Online. My wife and I are fans of the magazine and I wondered if they had a message ...
Community Review: The Future of MySpace
2008-03-05 04:49:34
MySpace Home Originally uploaded by life_changes If you read my Community Review on Yahoo!, you’ll find that Yahoo! is most noted as a web directory, although it has developed a huge online community. The opposite is true with MySpace.com, the largest social networking community online, which is fast-growing into a web directory. Since joining the website in 2005, I have watched the membership grow, and can see how MySpace is developing into a web directory thru the addition of many features over time. Millions of people visit MySpace each day not only to connect with other people, but also to access the features that the site offers. The community features currently offered by MySpace include: MySpace Blogs MySpace Chat Rooms MySpace Classifieds MySpace Events MySpace Forums MySpace Groups MySpace Impact MySpace Jobs MySpace News MySpace Polls MySpace Weather These are standard community features, although MySpace does take these features to the next level like only MyS ...

Socialite Showcase: Angelina Jolie
2008-03-01 18:32:33
If you look up the term 'socialite' on Wikipedia, you will find that it is someone with the "ability to dominate the social scene and use personal charisma to achieve prominence." This week I am going to showcase a socialite who has used her personal charisma to achieve prominence on a global level - Angelina Jolie. You can read a biography about her on Wikipedia here where you will learn about her career as an American film actress and Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency. Since her screen debut in 1982 (alongside her father, actor John Voight) Angelina Jolie has become one of the best known actresses in Hollywood - and one of the highest paid. Her personal life has gained worldwide media attention, and she uses her celebrity status to bring awareness to the plight of refugees through the UNHCR. Angelina Jolie is a talented performer, one of the worlds most beautiful women, and a dedicated activist. She is popular with people all around the world and is also listed on Wiki ...
Blog Envy: Lesbiatopia
2008-02-07 23:02:40
Lesbiatopia Screen Shot Originally uploaded by life_changes The Lesbiatopia blog is a blog for lesbians that I totally envy because of their popularity and flair. Lesbiatopia is a blog that offers “a humorous and personal commentary on life, love, sex and society from the minds of modern-day lesbians”. They’ve recently been nominated for “The Bloggies” under the category of ‘Best GLBT Blog’, competing against other blogs such as PerezHilton.com. The winners will be announced in March but you know who my vote went to – Lesbiatopia! Lesbiatopia has also been nominated by The Lesbian Lifestyle for the title of Lesbian Blog of the Year for 2007. Voting begins on February 18th and you can read more about that here. Something else I like about Lesbiatopia is the fact that the writers are not afraid to discuss the issues that modern day lesbians face.If you don’t already know I am a lesbian and have a blog called Lesbian Mommy where I post my adventures as a lesbian ...
Forum Find: Launch.com Message Boards
2008-02-03 14:12:16
Yahoo! Music Originally uploaded by life_changes Launch.com is a website that you may know as Yahoo! Music.I have been a fan of Launch.com for years, and when it became Yahoo! Music I was excited to find that my Yahoo! account once again allowed me access to must visit web features. The interesting thing that I want to bring to your attention in this post is the fact that this website not only offers the latest music videos and radio stations online, but they also provide access to message boards where you can discuss music with other fans. When you visit an artist’s page at Yahoo! Music, you will find a link that says ‘Message Boards’ which will take you to discussions about that specific artist. My favorite artists usually have message boards where you can discuss their music such as Mary j. Blige and The Pussycat Dolls. Sometimes you will find that there are no message boards for a particular artist which can be a bummer. That’s okay though because Yahoo! Music make ...
Socialite Showcase: Perez Hilton
2008-02-03 12:42:14
Perez Hilton is a celebrity blogger from Miami who now lives in Los Angeles. You can read more about him on Wikipedia here. You will find that he is a very popular person online and fast becoming a celebrity socialite. his website, PerezHilton.com, is one of the top ranked blogs and most highly visited websites online. The topic of Perez Hilton’s blog is celebrity gossip, and he is very passionate about blogging celebrity photos and breaking news from Hollywood. He has called himself the “Queen of Media”, but was referred to as the Queen of Mean by Rolling Stone. Many celebrities that he blogs about are not at all amused with his commentary of their photos, etc. He has also received a lot of negative attention for his use of images belonging to websites and agencies such as x17online, who employs a team of celebrity photographers. Plus he is under fire for outing gay celebrities against their wishes, sometimes forcing them to come out of the closet. Nevertheless, Perez Hilton has ...
Socialite Showcase: Tila Tequila
2008-02-03 12:42:05
PARALYZE_Music_Video_Shoot Originally uploaded by life_changes Have you ever heard of Tila Tequila?Chances are, if you have a profile on MySpace, or have otherwise heard of MySpace before, then you have probably heard of Tila Tequila. She is the ultimate Online Socialite, with a whopping 2,462,887 friends in her “personal network” on the most popular social networking website to date. Her influence on MySpace users is huge, and she is a big asset to the website, endorsing them just by being who she is. On her MySpace page, you can read that she never intended to set the record of most friends on MySpace, or to start what she calls a “Tila Phenomenon.” She has kept her fans posted regularly on her life as a whole by posting to her MySpace blog, because it gives her something to do when she is “bored at 4am”. From what you can read in her ‘About Me’ section, she seems to be a very down to earth woman with a good head on her shoulders. I am a faithful viewer of he ...
