Thursday Thirteen #15, Bobbleheads on parade
2007-09-05 23:38:25
Bobbleheads on parade As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve had the holidays on my mind a bit. In that mindset, I started thinking up a little holiday tune. Please give it up for the Moron Ta-Beer-naclechoir as they sing the first few verses of the soon-to-be Christmas classic “Bobbleheads on Parade”. (Sung to the tune [...] ...

It’s that time of year again
2007-09-05 18:42:48
The kids are back in school, the weather is (hopefully) turning cooler for you and the holiday season that seemed like it would take forever to arrive is right around the corner. It’s hard to believe that Halloween is just about 8 weeks away, followed closely by Thanksgiving and Christmas, and since I haven’t [...] ...

Point and shoot schooling
2007-09-05 15:04:14
I just wanted to let everyone know that the ever-wonderful Ellie (Perhaps better known as the Kitchen Wench) has asked us if we’d like her to share some of her point-and-shoot camera knowledge with the rest of us non dSLR types. I for one have already chimed in with a resounding “YES!” Don’t get [...] ...
Bring on the showers… Baby showers, that is.
2007-09-04 22:40:45
Do you know of a mom-to-be that is in need of a mod mom baby shower? I know that in our insulated military communities, these things happen roughly three times a year, somewhere around four to six months after a deployment cycle, (I wonder what causes that? Any clues anyone?) and that we’re [...] ...

AB-Too Kool for Skool - Revisited
2007-09-04 21:20:46
I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Labor Day weekend, and that if you had to actually work (blech) that you at least got to run out for a picnic or something at the end of the day. You may remember that way back in July I posted an entry titled AB-Too Kool for Skool, [...] ...
Supporting those who serve
2007-08-30 22:03:42
I’ve stated before that I’m a military husband, and that my lovely wife is an active duty member of the United States Air Force. To top that off, I’m also a veteran of the United States Navy (proof below!), so when something like this comes along, I feel obliged to pass it along. Our troops [...] ...

Happy birthday Lil’ B!
2007-08-28 20:34:48
It doesn’t seem like it, but it’s been a year to the day since Mr. Seat of his Diaper came into our family. (though granted he cam in much smaller than he is now, and a good deal less destructive!) Happy birthday Lil’ B! The top photo is of Lil’ B’s first taste of chocolate… The [...] ...

Serving in style - Great dining room furniture
2007-08-28 20:08:40
As foodies we know that the dishes we prepare are, at least for us, the center of a gathering. We pour our hearts and souls into every detail to try to present our guests with a perfect experience. Wonderful flavors, subtle textures and heavenly aromas are our stock-in-trade when it comes to sitting [...] ...

Sorta-Spicy Tur-chicken Burgers with Iceberg Slaw
2007-08-28 16:11:42
Oh the feeling of visiting another food blog, only to discover you’ve begun to salivate uncontrollably over the recipe you’ve found there. You’ve discovered the perfect meal idea sitting right there in front of you, with photos and all. You just have to make this as soon as possible. That’s what happened to me the other [...] ...

Thursday Thirteen #14, Conditions for acceptance into the bobblehead brigade
2007-08-23 01:34:54
Criteria necessary for inclusion in the “Bobblehead Brigade” In past Thursday Thirteens I have lamented the fate of Food Network and chronicled the antics of what has come to be known “Food Network’s Bobblehead Brigade”. For those interested, I did not coin that phrase, nor is “bobblehead brigade” exclusive to the new crop of Food TV [...] ...
Barbecued Asian Beef Salad
2007-08-22 15:21:11
What do you do with a lonely little piece of leftover chuck roast? You can always make a barbecue beef sammich, or just nibble it to death as a snack, but why not give it a bit of pride in its demise and turn it into something completely different and absolutely fabulous!… But what would [...] ...

Baked Tilapia with Zucchini and Yellow Squash
2007-08-17 19:46:15
In my opinion, fish is best cooked simply. Flavors should be added sparingly so that the delicate flavor of the meat comes through as its own statement, rather than being buried in herbs and spices or some overwhelming sauce. That doesn’t mean that fish should be boring, and this dish is anything but. Tilapia is [...] ...

Thursday Thirteen #13 - My love/hate Relationship with Rachael Ray
2007-08-16 22:24:42
Twenty-six things about Food Network’s Rachael Ray Welcome back to CbsoP’s near-weekly installment of the Thursday Thirteen. This weeks edition is a special one indeed, seeing as it is the thirteenth, TT done here, so I’ve decided to turn my attention to the one Food Network celebrity that I find myself at odds over. For [...] ...

What “Real Food” means to me.
2007-08-13 23:42:46
What does “Real Food” mean to you? That’s the question at hand, as posed to me by a member of the Hellman’s Marketing Team asking if I’d be interested in writing an entry on my feelings about “Real Food” for Dave Lieberman’s “In Search of Real Food” on Yahoo! 360°. Mr. Lieberman [...] ...

Home at last
2007-08-10 16:42:52
It’s been hard going and a lot of work, but I can finally say with a huge grin… We’re Home! Those are our new diggs in the picture above. Everything from the bumper of my pretty blue toy in the foreground to the far right wall. I know it looks pretty tiny in [...] ...
Would you use aluminum kitchen cabinets?
2007-08-03 20:21:53
I’ve mentioned that we’re moving, and by this weekend we should be almost situated in the new house.  Even though we’re moving into base housing, which is technically a rental, the move has us both thinking about what we’ll do in our own home when we finally decide to buy. As a foodie, one of my [...] ...

It’s all happening so fast!
2007-08-02 23:17:29
I just wanted to drop a quick note and say that we are, in fact, live and well.  My wife and I are in the middle of a move to a new house, and currently all of my time is being spent packing for the final move day on Saturday. In other news, my wife and [...] ...
Mascerated Berry Parfait
2007-07-31 13:18:21
Summer is upon us, and with it the need for lighter meals and cool refreshing desserts. For many this means ice cream, gelato, sorbet or a float, all of which are wonderful indeed, but to me it means fruit, preferably with a bit of a kick. This recipe stemmed partially from the fact that I have [...] ...
Shrimp with Lemon and Cilantro on Ramen Noodles
2007-07-27 17:28:15
If you’re looking for a quick, light lunch for those warm summer days, look no further than your freezer and pantry to deliver something insanely satisfying in just a few minutes time. Here on the Texas/Oklahoma border, summer has been late arriving. We finally got one of the first really “summery” days about a week [...] ...

Thursday Thirteen #12 - Thirteen Things about Chef Tyler Florence
2007-07-25 22:59:36
Thirteen Things about Food Network’s Tyler Florence Welcome back to my continuing series on the The Food Network’s stable of celebrity chefs. As promised, the tone this week will be positive, as I highlight one of the people whom I firmly believe redeems Food TV for some of its Bobble-Headed-ness, Chef Tyler Florence. I’m sure that [...] ...

2007-07-23 16:41:32
Please excuse my lack of updates over the past few days.  My computer suffered a complete failure, and I’ve just gone through the process of getting everything backed up-burned to DVD, switched, swapped and safely stored. Hopefully I’ll be back to a routine in the next day or two, because of course, the fact I couldn’t [...] ...
Thursday Thirteen #11 - Thirteen Things about Sandra Lee
2007-07-18 21:55:53
Thirteen Things about food Network’s Aunt Sandy You’ll note that I’m alternating my TT’s on the Food Network stable of Celebs. I will continue switching between those I like and those I find to be a complete waste of time and resources until I run out of one or the other. This week’s topic [...] ...
The Food Snob Chronicles Volume 3: Would you like some food with that?
2007-07-17 21:01:39
I can’t help it, it makes me crazy. It doesn’t really matter who prepared the dish, be it myself, a friend, a chef, or a restaurant line-cook. It really doesn’t, I still get aggravated and the food snob in me wants to shout at the top of my lungs: HEY! Would you like [...] ...

Your Pantry or Mine No.3 - Part 1 - Drunken Chili Shrimp with 3 Bean and Cucumber Salad
2007-07-16 16:48:04
Summer has finally rolled into our part of Texas, hopefully leaving the thunderstorms and driving rain that have been our constant companions since March behind us for a while. With the mercury rising rapidly, it was a perfect excuse to fire up the grill and go with a side dish that was on the [...] ...

Say it isn’t so, JAG!
2007-07-16 15:09:35
For those of you who might have missed the Next Food network Star last night on FoodTV, you probably shouldn’t have. It was a wild, if extremely disapointing ride. JAG (Joshua Adam Garcia), my personal favorite to win, ended up having to resign from the competition after it came to light that he’d misrepresented himself [...] ...
First impressions, Food Network’s Simply Delicioso with Ingrid Hoffman
2007-07-14 18:46:17
I just had the chance to catch the first episode of Simply Delicioso with Ingrid Hoffman on Food Network. My first impression is that this is going to be one of the good ones. Food Network’s official description of Ingrid is as follows: Ingrid Hoffmann makes every meal simply delicioso with her practical approach to [...] ...

The ravioli were awful, but oh, the sauce!
2007-07-12 20:32:01
They look luscious don’t they? Rich, huge, decadent ravioli, just barely touched with an intensely flavored, yet extremely light tomato sauce. I love ravioli. I love mushrooms. Mushroom ravioli is a natural progression from those two factors. Unfortunately, I made a fatal error with these. I discovered that neither my [...] ...

Thursday Thirteen #10 - Thirteen Things about Paula
2007-07-11 20:09:56
Thirteen Things I love about Paula Deen For this entry of the Thursday Thirteen Meme I’m returning to the Food Network stables of celebrity, but this time around I’m going to focus on someone I absolutely adore. Miss Paula. What, he’s going to be nice!?!?! Yup, I sure am, because for every bobblehead on [...] ...
Your Pantry or Mine No. 3
2007-07-10 15:18:07
We’re here for another round of YPOM! This round’s guinea pig participant is tommiea, of Tuesday Update, and what a list it is. I know that this is only round 3 of this little experiment, but for the first time I’m not going to have to wonder about a single thing in the pantry. Absolutely everything is spelled out! I think this is honestly the first pantry list I’ve received that includes a few ingredients I’ve never heard of, or tasted, to the best of my knowledge, and I’m quite intrigued to say the least. The whole purpose of this event was to reach a bit outside of comfort zones, and on this round I’ll very likely be moving into unknown territory myself. Having said all that, I present you with tommiea’s pantry list in all its glory. (more…) ...

AB-Too Kool for Skool
2007-07-09 12:09:21
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx1FPNPi0ys I love Alton Brown.  This clip is from a Q&A Session in Naples, Florida.  I haven’t been able to find much more information on the clip than that.  If anyone has the details, I’ll gladly post them here! My personal favorite portion of this clip is near the end, when he discusses hi broken arm. ...
