Western Women
2007-12-15 00:06:40
(lyrics for a song from a western musical yet to be written)
 A bar room scene-busy
Women today should be put in their place.
They want too much now for my tastes.
They already do plenty of chores, and
mix in some lovin, they don’t need any more. Â
Western women don’t need no spurs.
Western women don’t need no spurs.

Nature of Change
2007-12-11 23:52:46
This poem, or parts of it, were floating in my mind for at least a month, but I didn’t feel the words were there until today, Dec. 11, 2007. I guess I have to come to some conclusion about my thoughts instead of general ranting and raving about the subject. That was the hard part. Then my headache [...] ...

First Snow
2007-12-05 14:13:52
After being in Texas, and along the Mexican border for 16 years, seeing the colors of the leaves changes in October was great. Gradually the weather has been getting colder, and one thing was for sure, the first show, on Dec. 5, 2007. About three inches of the precipitation fell. It was not [...] ...

Wanted: Musicians to put words to music
2007-11-16 15:11:13
Â
 Â
I have a musical challenge. Words and music have been put together for centuries. Some people get started in music, like me, but finds words easier to deal with than practicing the clarinet, or any other instrument for that matter. I know how to read music and even have a clarinet around for fun. Others [...] ...

Under the Old Oak Tree
2007-11-04 23:18:21
Under the Old Oak Tree
When I’ve said my last word,
And breathed my last breath,
Take to me to that old oak tree
On the small hill overlooking
The field in back of the house.
As the limbs of the tree grow,
So will the memories as the
Colors of the season change,
And the fields bear the fruit
Of the harvest of the [...] ...

November Poem of the Month
2007-11-02 21:35:51
Newsletter of the World of Words by Elias Tobias
Â
It’s November already.
It has been good to see change of seasons with the different
colors of leaves in Indiana, and that’s different than the trees
along the Mexico border in Texas. Next will come colder
weather and snow. We’re getting ready with new coats
and getting our cars winterized like we did when [...] ...

The Medium is the Message
2007-10-29 12:50:38
Sometimes standard symbols lose their usefulness, and others
can take their place; where words that are not words are
really words. It’s the thought that counts. This is an example.
The Medium is the Message

Vel illum dolore eu feugiat.

Absolute Dedication

Absolute Dedication
Don’t trade your trophies into cold cash,
Because you never know what victory will be the last.
The reputation was carefully crafted in the past,
But the impression is fresh when the new dye is cast.
Be merciful in defeat of your opposition,
And you will enjoy a favorable public opinion.
But when it comes time to win the competition
Be [...] ...

New Poetry Book - Color My World
While I had my old Web site, I put together a book in
2002 using a pamphlet program, and the book ended up
being 20 pages on a 8 x 5 1/2 size paper. I had other types
of collections, some of which appear on this Web blog, such
as Love Notes, 100% [...] ...

Mustang Heart
2007-10-03 00:18:02
Mustang heart,
Born bold and beautiful,
Destined to be wild and free,
You run the range on the prairie.
Some have tried to saddle your back,
But your spirit won’t be broken,
And, as they fall, you just laugh.
Before they get up, you’re gone
Exploring trails in another valley.
I was left behind, coughing in your dust.
The strongest sandstorm could
Never strip away my [...] ...

All for You
2007-09-27 16:36:08
All For You
I took a look at you,
and then held your hand.
With a big smile,
I promised to be your man.
And I do it all for you.
I do it all for you,
since you are the only one. I do it all for you,
since you have come
into my world and set me free.
Now I believe in love.

Race to the Finish
2007-09-26 22:43:40
Art by M.HallA Race to the Finish
It’s a race to the finish,
but when will the fury end?
The winners are really losers
 since they have lost friends.
The contest has a rule book,
 and the rules easily bend.
First place is important now,
 no matter who you offend.
The pace is past the pack,
 the position to defend.
I wonder if only winning is [...] ...

Genies in the bottles
2007-09-08 15:49:21
The bottles fall from the tables,
and then the genies are set free.
Expectations and desires seem real,
but don’t believe what you see.
Diminutive forces of good and right
battle powers of collective evil and
Quickly, the day becomes night.
Memories made minutes before
are erased instantly. Suddenly
solid surfaces shift beneath my feet
and sidewalks become rooftops.
I fall through a window for safety.
Here [...] ...

The Truth about Outlaws
Being an outlaw in the Wild West
some think was the best thing a person
could be. They were always free,
but they were always also on the run.
That wasn’t always fun, trying to get
away from their past not knowing when
their next step was the last.
Big names like Billy the Kid,
Butch Cassidy and Wild Bunch,
Jesse [...] ...

Bahama Bound

Bahama Bound
Peanut shell piles crunch on the floor,
and the clock on the wall says it’s
only four in the afternoon.
The Happy Hour crowd
will be coming in soon.
Country guitars and drums fill the air.
It’s Friday and people are smiling
everywhere.
Burgers steam the grill in the kitchen
of the Rondevous.
Guys and gals will come in later for a
drink or two.
The [...] ...

Remember Montana
2007-07-30 05:19:13
I get inspired to write words to what could be great songs, and and it happens at the “wrong” time. Knee-deep in stories and newspaper assignments I make myself in the end of July, my mind wandered to another place and time. I pulled out my poetry notebook I keep in my back pocket during [...] ...

Next Flight
2007-07-17 18:05:48
I went to college at Ball State University at Muncie, Indiana, and spent my freshman year in Edwards Hall. Because of overbooking the class of 1979, the first quarter was in a three in a two man room. When I got a chance to get out of that situation, I had a roommate that [...] ...

It took time for the pyrotechnics to
glow enough for everyone to see
that you really loved me.

A Day at the Beach
2007-07-09 01:27:34
I finally went on vacation to Virgina Beach, and I spent a week with relatives at a beach house right on the beach in the Sandbridge area.  I did make a sand castle or two or three or four, flew a kite and witnessed or did what I wrote in the poem. This makes it [...] ...

Adopt a poem
2007-06-24 23:25:04
Adopt a poem
When I write my poems,
the sentences of the letters
are set free to be read, felt
and with your experiences,
they can become your own.
When you adopt a poem,
though, don’t put it in
your mind that I am
the poem. I am just
the author, and like
children, the poems have
a life of their own. ...
