After earning your first $10 from Adsense...
2008-03-26 03:31:48
There are quite a lot of publishers in Adsense Help Group asking why they cannot change their forms of payment, after reaching the first $10 threshold. No worry, you are not facing any technical problem. As you may know, the total number of publishers in Adsense around the world is huge, even for the new publishers that participate Adsense everyday. You can realize that there are also large number of publishers who have earned their respective $10 from Adsense. Hence, Google Adsense's system sometimes doesn't immediately pick up all qualifying accounts. These accounts should be identified after 48 hours, but in rare cases, it can take a bit longer. If you still cannot alter the form of payment, enter your tax information, view the date your PIN was sent or remove the payment hold for one week, you should them contact Google for assistance. ...
How to Deal with Prolonged CTR Decline?
2008-03-18 03:16:27
From time to time, it is normal for CTR to vary and fluctuate, within an acceptable range. If that is the case, there is no need to worry too much, since random drops of CTR always occur. Take my sites as an example, I have encountered a very low CTR that dropped to only 0.53%. But I wouldn't care too much on that, since this kind of nightmare-decline only appears very rarely, and most importantly, will be back to normal within a short period of time. However, situation is different if that kind of CTR drop lasts for a long time. In today's post, I am going to tell you how to deal with that.First off, I have written a good post explaining how to get a good CTR for webmasters. Please refer to it for better foundation on maximizing CTR. Prolonged drop of CTR usually occurs when you have changed the layout and appearance of your website, and hence the user interface is also changed as well. This may results in lowering in the visibility of the ads, and in turn lowering the chance for visi ...
Where are you, my blog?
2008-03-12 12:54:35
If you visit my blog today or days before, you may see a strange page there, right? Did you once think my blog has been acquired or my themes has been changed, or even I have given up Da Gsense Codes? No, no, no... All are wrong. I just made a very silly mistake there - forget to renew my domain. My domain should expired on 8th, March 2008. But then, I just got notified when the domain was down in the afternoon of 9th of March. Since I was in my office, and cannot go to transfer the renewal fee to my hosting company immediately. I could only manage to pay after 6pm of that day. But unluckily, the hosting company also closes at the time. I need to wait till the next day. The entire process is painful. After receiving the money, my hosting company will then update the record to the domain registar, and it takes even much more time for the domain registar to update the DNS record! So the whole process took me ages to get the domian becomes live again. However, as told by the hosting guy, th ...
Adsense Veteran Left Google and Joins Facebook
2008-03-07 03:02:00
Another great impact to Google that may hinders the development of Adsense business. A veteran in Google has been poached and jumps into the top leader in the social networking industry – Facebook. She is Sheryl Sandberg, and was working in Google to lead the search giant’s advertising business and fully unleashed the earning potential of two programs – Adwords and Adsense. These two programs, before Ms. Sandberg left, contribute over 90% of the total income of Google. At the same time, Ms. Sandberg also realizes the importance of corporate image, and hence launches a charity organization www.google.org and to cater the different charity needs. But the day before yesterday, Ms. Sandberg was poached by the CEO as well as the founder of Facebook, Mr. Zuckerberg, to be the Chief Operation Officer (COO), and she will be report directly to this 23-year-old CEO.Ms. Sandberg's appointment comes as Mr. Zuckerberg is trying to adjust to being head of a company that is quickly outgrowing it ...
Sell Your Advertising Space Yourself
2008-03-05 05:27:31
As you are old enough in this money-making industry, you will start to realize that relying on Google Adsense for monetization is quite risky. Not only because you may not get desirable earning from it, but also due to the fact that you will get banned without any reasons. I really mean it, as you may know, I have been disabled by Google several times. I swear I am an honest publisher than try my every best to follow strictly with the Adsense TOS, report all the invalid click activities to Google once I found them. But then, Google has still disabled for invalid clicks for several times! Gosh, how come an active poster in Adsense Help Group that always remind people not to click the ads himself will click my own ads! Never mind, I get used to it, and don’t misunderstand, I did not get banned yesterday. The thing I want to show you is that Adsense is only one monetization stream, and in fact there are many more. I have been approached by a Webmaster that wants to rent a space in my sit ...
New Privacy Policy in Updated Terms and Conditions
2008-02-28 03:37:52
If you login your Adsense account is these few days, you must notice that there is a page showing the new Terms and Conditions (T&C) on the first page, and prompting you to read through and accept them. If you decide not to accept or forget to accept it by 5.3.2008, your account will then be terminated. That means if you want to continue to participate in this Adsense program like me, you have to accept it.This time around, most of the changes to the Terms and Conditions fall into two broad categories: 1) future products and features and 2) privacy requirements. In addition to that, there are some specific requirements that make it necessary for publishers to post and abide by a transparent privacy policy that users see. According to this policy, publishers must notify their users of the use of cookies and/or web beacons to collect data in the ad serving process. This change relates to advertisers' use of innovative products and features like Gadget Ads and other offerings in the f ...

What is RSS Feed?
2008-02-25 16:32:02
As I promised in my previous post yesterday, I would like to give you sime introduction for those who may not know RSS very much. What is RSS?RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a way to easily distribute a list of headlines, update notices, and sometimes content to a wide number of people. It is used by computer programs that organize those headlines and notices for easy reading. What problem does RSS solve? Most people are interested in many websites whose content changes on an unpredictable schedule. Examples of such websites are news sites, community and religious organization information pages, product information pages, medical websites, and weblogs. Repeatedly checking each website to see if there is any new content can be very tedious.Email notification of changes was an early solution to this problem. Unfortunately, when you receive email notifications from multiple websites they are usually disorganized and can get overwhelming, and are often mistaken for spam.RSS ...
RSS readers come back!
2008-02-23 18:36:06
Further to the post I made the day before yesterday talking about the sudden drop of RSS members in the Feedburner counter, I just want to make an update for the progress of maintence today. According to the announcement of Feedburner, the number of RSS readers will return to normal after the maintence of Feedfetcher. As you can see from the counter in my blog, it is now 207, even more than before. This means the problem has been fixed, and you and me did not lose any RSS readers for no reasons. How much time do I need to make it to 300? I guess it won't take long... ...
Happy Valentine's Day 2008
2008-02-22 05:19:45
Today is the Valentine's Day. It is a great day for couples to go out, watch movie, and have a nice (yet expensive) dinner. If you don't have a valentine, but have one that you love secretly, you should make use of this romantic day to tell her you love her. I am sure in such great day that romantic atmosphere is all around, the chance will be much much higher. Even if you don't have a target, you should also hang out with your family (or maybe go to the bar to get one immediately).Last night, I dated my girl to have a nice dinner in Causeway Bay (a well-known CBD in Hong Kong), and both of us love that dinner very much. She like the dessert while I was impressed by the medium-well steak (M8 from Australia). After having the nice but slow meal, we then needed to rush to watch the movie – "P.S. I Love You". This movie is a lot better than I thought, and although the casting is not that attractive to us, it is really better than the movie we watched last year – “Music and Lyrics". ...
Number of RSS Readers Drop Dramatically
2008-02-22 05:13:10
If you have a blog, I am sure you must have your own feed and even get your feed burned in Feedburner.com. I have checked my blog here twice, and can't even find a post that talks about the advantages of burning your feed. How dare I miss that? I promise I will discuss this topic in the near future. But before I move on to the topic of burning a feed, I would like to tell you that the number of RSS readers in this blog has halved!I always keep checking the number of RSS readers as well as the number of visitor reading my blog at that moment with the counters in my left bar. Yesterday, the counter told me that there was still 202 readers who have subscribed my blog. But, when I checked the counter again last night, it shows only 116 readers remaining. Where do the rest go? How come I lose 86 readers all of sudden? I immediately went to the forum of Feedburner, and realized that there are many bloggers facing the same problem. We all got two official replies/answers and I quoted them belo ...
Dead with No Reason
2008-02-18 16:59:46
What happen to Adsense recently? It seems that the system in Adsense is having serious error again. This time, when many Adsense publishers tried to login their Adsense account, they received an error message that their Adsense account has been disabled and can no longer login. Theoretically, if an publisher is banned by Google, he/she should also receive an email explaining why he/she was banned. But this time, they hardly get an notification email. This is definitely a nightmare to these people. They are all dead with no reason. They cannot get a satisfactory answer on why their Adsense account were terminated. As a result of that, there are so many publishers rushing to the Adsense Help Group, and raising questions like why I was banned, account disabled, and please tell me why I was banned. And all the replies to those threads are those people who are facing the similar problems. Let me share some of the quotations from those people:Irfan10:"Why my account suddenly disable? I didn't ...
Application Delay in late January
2008-02-14 18:37:44
Google announced that due to the system failure, the application made in the past few weeks would have some delay in review and approval. There are some people who raised their questions in such belated application in Adsense Help Group. For those who have applied in the past few weeks, no worry, your application is not rejected without reasons but is still under review. Luckily, the system failure has been fixed and the waiting time for Adsense application is still be 10 business days. The recoveroing of Adsense system was also mentioned in the Adsense blog, "We'd like to let you know that everything is back to normal, and we're working hard to get the backlog processed. If you've been waiting to hear back about your application, please be assured that we'll get back to you soon. Thanks for your patience in the meantime".Same in the past, if you have waited for more than 3 weeks, please send an email to adsense-support@google.com and enquire on the review progress. ...

Higher Bidding Price of Advertisers in Bidvertiser
2008-02-14 07:29:45
One important point for choosing an Adsense alternative to make money is that that program should has high earning per click. In Google Adsense, there are many new publishers ask me how much they can earn for a click on their ads. Again, there is no definite answer, and a click normally worth about $0.1-$0.6 (Of course, in some occasions, you may be able to ear more than a dollar for click!). Undoubtedly, the best paying PPC program is Adsense at the moment, and that's why so many publishers stick to this.As an alternative, it need to pay high as much as possible. Bidvertiser ads, in the past, only bid below one dollar (Remark, publishers in Bidvertiser are able to review all the bids of ads before displaying them, and I have mentioned it in introducing Bidvertiser). Since Bidvertiser will keep a certain percentage from the total earning of the click, so you can only get quite little from it. However, this disadvantage is getting improved. I have noticed that there are many ads in my c ...
Unsatisfied Result with Oxado
2008-02-12 10:45:51
I mentioned in the previous post that I was amazed with the new improvement made by Oxado. As I have said, there are more ads in its database of Oxado that allows the publishers of other countries and places, including Hong Kong, to display ads. I was really amazed and though that would be a good complementary choice of ads with Bidvertiser. I then decided to replace the Bidvertiser ad unit inside each post with Oxado ads, and sit back to wait for money to come. First day, no click; second day, no click; third day, no click ... I have waited for over a week and there's still no single click. And so, I need to insert my favorite ad network back - the Bidvertiser ad.I have thought for a long time for my failure in Oxado, and I get several conclusions at the end. First, although more ads are now available in Traditional Chinese, there are only a few advertisers with ads that are related to Adsense or make money online. One of these advertisers is eBay which is not that popular in Hong Kon ...
How to Prevent Scam Monetization Programs?
2008-02-11 02:27:49
How to test whether a new PPC or other monetization programs is good and not fraudulent? When you first come across a new monetization programs, what will you do to determine whether it is worth for you to join and participate? I often surf over the net and come across many forums to talk about new opportunities for generating income for your site(s). I can tell you there are so many different kinds of monetization programs available on the net that it almost comes up a new one every day. However, I can also tell you that some of them are in fact scams that will never pay you after you did a lot of things or work for them. That will be too late if you fail to receive to payments from these programs. To avoid scams, I need to do something. The way I normally do is to first check the Page Rank of the website first. By using some free PR checker, it is very convenient to check it. One example is http://www.popuri.us/, and apart from Page Rank, you can also check the link popularity in Tech ...

Happy Lunar New Year!
2008-02-07 16:37:40
Today is the first day of the Year of mouse, and the weather is so cold in Hong Kong that has only 8°C. Maybe the readers of this blog are always facing such weather from time to time, or even colder, but to me, it's already freezing cold. If you have a good memory, you should remember that I was not in Hong Kong last Lunar New Year. Yes, I used the earning from Adsense and other monetization programs to subsidize my trip to Eastern Europe. I have been to Dresden and Berlin of Germany, Prague of Czech Republic and Vienna of Austria. You can refer to my post “Trip to Eastern Europe”.But this year, I need to stay in Hong Kong, not because I am not able to earn that much from Adsense, but due to the fact I need to work and only have four holidays. How poor I am. For the bright side, I can save up money for the Valentine's Day which is a day to burn my cash. I think it may be a good idea to write more about the plan to the coming Valentine's day.Anyway, unlike other holidays, my earni ...

More Ads in Oxado for Publishers
2008-02-06 08:25:32
Two days ago, I have added a new 120x240 banner inside the post with Oxado ads and replace the Bidvertiser ads. I have previously review Oxado at its surface, for those readers who have missed it, you can check it here. There are two reasons behind: one is that I would like to know the viability of the Oxado ads, to see how it compares to that of Bidvertiser ads. On the other hand, I can see that there are great improvements done by Oxado. Recently, Oxado is getting a bigger and bigger advertiser base, and starts to serve ads in other languages, including traditional chinese that best fits for Hong Kong publishers(I always suspect I am the only publisher who use Oxado ads in Hong Kong).Several months ago, I had tried Oxado, and there is only one ad showing in all ad blocks. I checked the FAQ there and found out that since there is no advertisements in my language, so only one default ad can be displayed. I was pretty upset by it. But now, since there are much more ads in traditional ch ...

Use Oxado with Adsense Together
2008-02-05 04:42:58
For a long time, Google Adsense Terms of Service prohibited having any other contextual advertising on the same page as theirs, and that included Oxado and Bidvertiser banners. However, the relevant policy has been changed last year, and now the only requirement is that the ads from two ad netowrks must not resemble with each other and there is no risk of confusion, and that ads other than Google's be recognized as such, basically by using a different set of colors. You can see it in their own terms here:https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=32849As I have explained previously, Oxado is one of the best alternatives to Adsense, and yet it is also compatible with Adsense too. Though Oxado has high minimum payout, it has high earning per click too! That means you can have both Google Adsense and Oxado banners on the same page, and increase your revenue opportunities, rather than having to chose only one of the two. However, the color you used for both types of ads sho ...

Clarification on Login Error Message
2008-02-04 04:14:16
There many new Adsense publishers often claim to see the following error message when they were trying to log in:"Welcome! You're signed in to Google Accounts under the email [your email address] and your Google Account password, but this is not a valid AdSense login."Are you one of them? There's been confusion among publishers about this login error message -- especially if you're absolutely positive that you've used the correct email address when logging in. In order to help you access your account, here are some clarifications and tips for troubleshooting. If you're seeing this error message, this means your AdSense account shares the same login and password as a Google Account, but the two accounts are not linked. As a result, when you try logging in at http://www.blogger.com/www.google.com/adsense, our system will only grant you access to your Google Account -- not your AdSense account. To resolve this issue, you'll need to maintain two separate passwords. The easiest way to proceed ...
New Adsense Payment Option - Western Union
2008-02-01 04:29:40
When I was not here for nearly 4 months, there are many updates from Google Adsense. Though they may not be a hot and fresh announcement anymore, I think it worths to mention in this blog again which specifically talk about Google Adsense. If you are already familiar with these "updates", you can simply ignore these posts, and move forwards to the rest of my blog. The first update I am going to say is the new payment option - the Western Union. In addition to the existing payments like cheques and EFT, Western Union is the third option you can take, if you are within the designated countries. This is pretty much like EFT where only limited locations are available. You can now withdraw your earning in your Adsense account from Western Union within a day after your payment date. So you don't need to wait for 2-3 weeks for the check payment. Your Western Union Quick Cash payment will be made in US dollars. However, at most Western Union agents, you may be able to pick up your payment in you ...

Special Valentine Code from Chitika
2008-01-31 04:18:03
Today is the last day of January, and is stepping towards February. What do you think is the most important thing in February? I am sure most of you must say the romance day in 14th – the "Valentine Day". It is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other; sending Valentine's cards, or gifting candy. It is very common to present flowers on Valentine's Day. The holiday is named after two among the numerous Early Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. The day is most closely associated with the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of "valentines." Modern Valentine symbols include the heart-shaped outline and the figure of the winged Cupid. If you have your valentine, it's really the time for you to buy her/him a nice gift, in order to express how deep your love is. But many people say it is always hard to get a nice ...

Monetize Your Feed with Feedvertiser
2008-01-30 07:46:55
There are numerous options to monetize a blog, including Bidvertiser ads, AdSense ads, affiliate links, paid reviews, links to your products. Making a living online is not a myth, if your blog receives enough visitors every day. To make the most of your visitors you must keep in mind where do they come from. Those who arrive to your blog from search engine results or directed to you by links from other websites can see your pages fully. But your revenue-generating ads and links are hidden for those who read your RSS feeds. This means that you are wasting a great earning potential, and is losing clicks from a substantial portion of your loyal visitors. If you realize this now, you should use "feedvertising' to do so.Feedvertising is a technology that enables bloggers to run text ads in their RSS feeds. One service I discovered lately that provides such technology is Text Links Ads. If you have a Wordpress blog you can join the network.Feedvertising is very user-freidnly and flexible. Yo ...

Easier to get the PIN
2008-01-30 07:19:57
One of the special thing about Google Adsense is that it has higher standards to publishers, and has measures to verify the information provided by Adsense publishers is correct. To do this, Google uses Personal Identification Number and Phone Number Verification to ensure the security and accuracy of your information so you can receive payments from AdSense. In the past, Google would ask you to verify your information when your earnings reached the $50 threshold. However, Google has recently announced that this policy has been change, and such threshold is lowered to $10. This lowered amount means many of you may see a PIN arrive in your mailbox soon, as well as a prompt in your account to verify your phone number. For more information about these holds, you may visit the links in the 'Required Actions' box on your Payment History page. ...
Bidvertiser Ads for Feeds - New Feature from Bidvertiser
2008-01-24 14:24:57
If you are one of my blog readers, you must know that Bidvertiser is one of my favourites. It offers me considerable commission on referring new publishers and advertisers. In this new year, Bidvertiser has announced a new feature for monetizing your blog feed, if you are using either Wordpres, Typepad or Blogger. The huge growth of RSS feeds, empowered by the growth of blogging, created the demand for new ways to monetize RSS feeds. Hundreds if not thousands of debates through the blogsphere confronted the ones supporting full feeds with the ones supporting partial feeds, were it always ends in "but how can I monetize my feed"?This new feature is called "BidVertiser Ads for Feeds", and once you finished the registration and feed vreification, you will be able to show the BidVertiser CPC ads in your feeds, as well as get access to our various multiple-subscription Feed Widgets that will help you publicize your new feed.Below shows how Bidvertiser Ads for Feeds work:1. Changes in Adsense Referral Program
2008-01-24 10:33:58
At the time when I was busying with my work, Google had decided to change the referral payment structure on Adsense program. All the Asian publishers (except for those in Japan), are not allowed to participate in Adsense program referral. This is definitely a bad news to all of us, as referral payment constitutes a significant portion of my income in Adsense. This is pretty much the same as those programs I always recommend like Bidvertiser and Text Link Ads. This decision was made on 8th January 2008, and since then, there are so much echos and complaining voices over this. (If I wasn't busying with my normal work, I would also write Google an complain letter on this.) As a result of this, Google has announced another new referral payment structure on Adsense program. But..."The changes to referrals promoting AdSense will now depend on where your users are located, regardless of your location as a publisher. You'll earn $100 for every user you refer to AdSense who is located in North ...

I Am Back!
2008-01-22 03:48:42
I have to say I miss you all. Can someone tell me how many days there are for my disappearance? I guess there should be more than 5 months!! I am so sorry that I haven't posted any Adsense tips and tricks in the blog for so long. I was busying with my stuff in my workplace. In September and October, I was working in a project for a development in Kygyzstan (hope my spelling is correct though I worked as a planner for over two months with this lovely country), a nation in Central Asia. Originally, I would like to share the CGI images showing such development for nearly 2,000 hectares, but unluckily I still kept them in my ex-working company. And then in November and December, I worked in the government and handle all the planning application (there is a completed and well-structured planning system in Hong Kong here). So I am quite busy from time to time over this three months. While I stopped to post for a week, I found that I was getting lazier and lazier to post a new post. After a mon ...
Say Goodbye to Onsite Advertiser Sign-up
2007-12-14 09:28:31
The recent findings from Google indicates that the Onsite Advertiser Sign-up feature, which allowed advertisers to sign up for AdWords campaigns on your site, hasn't been performing as well as they had hoped. As a result of that , they've elected to gracefully retire this feature and focus our efforts on developing and supporting features that drive better monetization results for you. Call it time management, call it ROI, call it their unwavering commitment to publishers. I really hope that terminating this feature will allow us to earn more from Google. Please be aware that any links you've created that lead to a customizable Onsite Advertiser Sign-up page will soon re-direct to the main AdWords sign-up page. Of course, AdWords advertisers will still be able to target your individual sites by using placement targeting. Thanks for your support of this feature in the past. We hope its departure won't cause you any inconvenience. ...
How to Determine the Value of Your Blog
2007-08-22 20:30:19
I have a previous post on how much does your site worth, and the result is, to me, simply for fun. It is because the system does not take all the things into the account and does not give an appropiate weighting to different factors. As a result of that, the system gets the inaccurate result. Anyway, it is always good to use human's mind to determine the value instead. When determining the value, what are the most important factors to consider? Below are some of my suggestions that one can use when he or she is trying to sell his or her blog:- EarningsPerpahps, it is the most appropiate and important facator, and characteristic to sell to your customer. To do this your blog will of course need to be earning something to start with. Again there are different opinions around the web as to how to use current earnings to assess a blog's value. Some say you should expect 6 - 8 months earnings as a price (i.e. a blog with a daily income of $100 would sell for between $18,000 and $25,000), wh ...

Apology for no post in the last few days
2007-08-20 05:50:23
I am so sorry that I haven't posted for this weekend. You may wonder I have enjoyed a good weekend and so I didn't have time to publish any post. That's not the fact at all. As some of my readers may remember, I have graduated from my master degree, and need to find a permanent job as soon as possible. The culture in Hong Kong is unique, we need to hurry to find a job once you are graduated, or otherwise all the good jobs will be gone and be occupied by other capable persons. This is something different from other places like UK or US, where the graduates there normally choose to have a vacation first, and then come back and start to hunt a job.Hong Kong is Hong Kong. I have been interviewed several times in the last week, mainly in the planning field. Finally, I get offers from both the Planning Department from the Hong Kong Government and the private consultant firm. Here's come to another problem, which one should I choose? ...
