Introducing The QuiverFull Blogroll
2007-11-30 15:03:00
The Quiverfull lifestyle is a movement among conservative evangelical Protestant Christians. Roman Catholics and some others might refer to the Quiverfull position as Providentialism. Those who hold this position do so not in an attempt to simply have large families but to leave in the hands of the Lord God Almighty His sovereignty and authority over the womb. The distinguishing viewpoint is to eagerly receive children as blessings from God, abandoning all forms of contraception, including natural family planning and sterilization. This blogroll is for those who are actively following the Lord in this lifestyle. To be included on this role please follow the rules listed below.Leave a comment requesting to be added and a link to your blog/site. Place the roll on your blog. I will email the code to you once you are confirmed, so make sure I can find your email.Write a post discussing this Biblical teaching. Let me know so I can link to it.Invite others you know who qualify to joi ...

The 12 Days of Christmas
2007-11-29 14:52:00
Today I have 13 things about the 12 Days of Christmas! #1 is about the 12 Days of Christmas and the rest are based on the song. The Twelve Days of Christmas as a celebration and festival is old and steeped in traditions from Christian cultures around the world. For many, the idea of the 12 days as a length of celebration is based on a sequence of verses in the Holy Bible (Matthew 2:1-12), and a belief that it may have taken 12 days for the three kings (also called wise men or magi) to travel to Bethlehem. The "true love" is God Himself. The "me" who receives the present is every baptized person. The Partridge in a Pear Tree is Jesus Christ, the Son of God.2 Turtle Doves represents the Old & New Testaments.3 French Hens represents The Three Theological Virtues: 1) Faith, 2) Hope, and 3) Love (1 Corinthians 13:13)4 Calling Birds represents the Four Gospels: 1) Matthew, 2) Mark, 3) Luke, and 4) John, which proclaim the Good News of God's reconciliation of the world to Himself in Jes ...

Sgt. Antwan L. Walker22 years old from Tampa, Florida2nd Forward Support Battalion, 2nd Infantry DivisionMay 18, 2005Sgt. Antwan Walker was excited about coming home from Iraq to celebrate his 23rd birthday with his family and friends. His mother, Andrea Pringle, was busy planning the party when an Army official unexpectedly came to her house. She said he told her Thursday that her son was killed the previous day by a bomb blast in Ramadi. The Department of Defense hasn't publicly confirmed his death. Sgt. Antwan Walker, known as Twan to his friends and family, joined the Army in 2000. Pringle said her son joined to earn money for college. "Twan had a lot of goals in life," She said. "He was very ambitious and very smart." Sgt. Walker had been in Iraq for about a year. He called his family often but didn't want to talk about war. Instead, he talked about starting a real estate career and his three children. "He was such a good dad," his mother said. "All he wanted to do was make a ...

Study, Study, Study, Full Speed Ahead!
2007-11-27 22:21:00
Now that the visitors have headed home and we are getting back into our regular routine it is time to hit the books hard! We have taken a two week break for Thanksgiving and the break is now officially over! Starting tomorrow school is back in full swing! Second quarter is starting late but we will work hard and push through. Study, study, study, full speed ahead! We will see how long we last until we run out of steam! Hopefully, we can make it until the middle of December when we will break again for Christmas and a birthday. This time of year is always difficult for us. The Christmas season is always a busy time, but even more so for us than for many others, since hubby is a pastor. It is his busy work time. This year though he will have a little bit of a break for a change. We also have a child with a birthday on the 26th, which we try very hard to make special for her so she does not feel like her birthday is lost amidst all the Christmas festivities. How are all you ho ...

Hospitality And An Empty House
2007-11-27 20:07:00
After our large gathering at Thanksgiving we had a couple of days without company. Then we have had more family visiting yesterday and today. We had a surprise birthday party for one of them when they arrived and the house was full of happy faces visiting with those they had not seen in years. As of about a half an hour ago, the house is empty. Who would have thought that a house with ten people would be considered empty? After a week and a half of visitors coming and going it does seem empty now. We had a great time and are so thankful for each one who visited. We are happy to be able to open this home the Lord has provided us to so many.HOSPITAL'ITY, n. [L. hospitalitas.] The act or practice of receiving and entertaining strangers or guests without reward, or with kind and generous liberality.I have not yet perfected this gift but I am glad that the Lord has laid it upon my heart. We have been blessed to share our home with so many (even more than this last week or so). One ...

The Big Switch Out
2007-11-26 15:53:00
Twice a year we must go through what I like to call "the big switch out". We pull out all of our plastic containers full of off season clothing and switch them with the clothing in the dressers. With many children this means alot of clothes. It usually takes an entire day, sometimes longer. When we are living in a place that has very distinct seasons it is much easier, we just do a total switch. Where we are now, it does not really get that cold but is not warm enough for cotton shorts, so we have to do a partial switch. Of course children tend to grow like weeds and the clothing gets passed down from child to child. We often have to see which clothing items fit each child during this particular season. This year I was able to weed out two garbage bags full of clothing that are no longer in good condition. I am so thankful for my children and how grateful they can be, they get excited when something gets passed down to them and even call it new! I am very blessed by this! Th ...

The Fourth Commandment
2007-11-25 14:50:00
WESTMINSTER LARGER CATECHISMQ. 115. Which is the fourth commandment?A. The fourth commandment is, Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work; but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested in the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath-day and hallowed it.Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. The Myth of "Me Time"
2007-11-24 16:25:00
Have you ever stumbled across a blog and thought, "Oh I wish I had written that?". Well, I have found one of those blogs! I linked to Raising Arrows last week and I will link to her once again. Here is an excerpt, please take the time to read the rest. Leave her a comment telling her you came from here and please return and let me know what you think of this latest posting. Me Time is a myth. It is an unattainable, always interruptible, never satisfactional piece of junk psychology. Me Time, by its very name, suggests that who we are during the daily grind is not WHO we truly are. It tells us that we are someone other than "WIFE" or "MOTHER." It begs us to search for fulfillment outside of those titles. It blames precious little ones and God-given spouses for suppressing us. It reduces motherhood to a disease in which the life is slowly being sucked out of us by tiny dirty faces and endless monotonous tasks. It says you can never be refreshed by spending time in the presence ...

His Eye Is On The Sparrow
2007-11-24 16:05:00
Early in the spring of 1905, my husband and I were sojourning in Elmira, New York. We contracted a deep friendship for a couple by the name of Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle—true saints of God. Mrs. Doolittle had been bedridden for nigh twenty years. Her husband was an incurable cripple who had to propel himself to and from his business in a wheel chair. Despite their afflictions, they lived happy Christian lives, bringing inspiration and comfort to all who knew them. One day while we were visiting with the Doolittles, my husband commented on their bright hopefulness and asked them for the secret of it. Mrs. Doolittle’s reply was simple: “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.” The beauty of this simple expression of boundless faith gripped the hearts and fired the imagination of Dr. Martin and me. The hymn “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” was the out ...

Abounding Blessings
2007-11-23 05:23:00
Our Thanksgiving feast today was such a blessed time! I think a great time was had by all. The grand total for those in attendance amounted to 28! We missed the few who could not make it and are thankful for the phone calls we received. We had plenty of room, plenty of food, plenty of family, and plenty of fun! My children and I were able to meet one relative we had not previously met. There were people from three different states. After my hubby shared a Psalm of Thanksgiving from the scriptures and led in prayer, we ate our fill plus some, played some games, and visited. Our family was truly blessed this Thanksgiving! God is so good! Here is a photo of my man bringing our devotion time, with one of our daughters standing at his side.

The First Thanksgiving
2007-11-22 07:03:00
There are only two surviving descriptions of the first Thanksgiving. One is contained a letter by colonist Edward Winslow. The second description was in a book written by William Bradford 20 years afterward. In the fall of 1621, 90 Wampanoag Indians, led by Chief Massasoit, and 52 English colonists gathered for a three-day harvest feast. This event also included recreation and entertainment. The Pilgrims and Wampanoag communicated through Squanto, who was a member of the Patuxet tribe. Other than this very little is actually known about what actually took place at that feast from which our Thanksgiving holiday comes. Our annual holiday was named Thanksgiving by Abraham Lincoln in the year 1863. I found a quote from 1621, written by Edward Winslow, as he remembered that first gathering, and the sentiment he expressedcalled for sharing and giving thanks."And although it be not always so plentiful as it was at this time with us, yet by the goodness of God, we are so far from want that ...

A Year of the Lord's Favor
2007-11-20 14:30:00
November is a month of falling leaves, cooler weather, and the Thanksgiving holiday. There are leaves to rake, warm clothes to unpack, and pies to bake. It is easy to get caught up in all the busyness. Remember it is okay to take a moment and jump in that pile of leaves with the children, that unpacking warm clothes can be a fashion show , and that the smell of baking pies brings comfort and can be used to train daughters in the kitchen. Do not look upon the busyness as a burden or the silver lining will be missed. As Mary Poppins says, "In every job that must be done there is an element of fun, you find the fun, and snap, the job's a game!"Remember, this time of year is a time to celebrate the harvest. For all the work you have put forth this year, celebrate the harvest. For all that the Lord has done, celebrate the harvest. There are so many things to be thankful for, celebrate and give thanks. The family that the Lord has blessed you with is a tremendous blessing, give th ...

Homeschoolers Against NEA Philosophy
2007-11-20 14:15:00
The National Educational Association in their 2007-2008 Resolutions has taken a stand against homeschooling. It reads... "The National Education Association believes that home schooling programs based on parental choice cannot provide the student with a comprehensive education experience. When home schooling occurs, students enrolled must meet all state curricular requirements.....etc. etc."There is an opportunity for homeschoolers to sign an online petition citing our stand against the NEA's resolution. It will make an even greater impact if you make a comment when signing the petition. The goal is for 10,000 homeschoolers to sign the petition, and currently a little over 5,000 have signed; please let all your homeschooling friends, neighbors, and support group members know about this petition and encourage them to sign it. Holiness and Hypocrisy
2007-11-19 15:47:00
There have been many times since my husband entered into the ministry field that we have endured our share of grief. There have been tremendous blessings also. Any pastor or pastor's wife, if honest, will tell you that the ministry field even though it is filled with blessing also comes with an abundance of sorrow. There are many reasons for this but I only want to tackle one of them in this posting.Ministers are held to a higher standard, which they absolutely should be, it is a biblical truth. However, ministers and their wives are still sinners saved by the grace of God Almighty alone.I heard a sermon several years ago which dealt with the sin of idolatry. The idol spoken of was that of other people's opinions. There is a John Calvin quote which has stuck with me to this day."Every one of us is, even from his mother's womb, a master craftsman of idols”.John CalvinOne area in which men tend to form idols is with their leaders. Leaders are to be looked up to; we all need goo ...

Being the Perfect Mother
2007-11-18 07:01:00
So often, we as homeschool moms diligently compare ourselves to others. Even as Christian women in general, we want to be the Proverbs 31 woman every second of our lives, we want to always get it right. We read Christian literature and find ourselves wallowing in guilt for not being perfect like the author or the fictional character created by the author. We all *think* we know one...this Perfect Mom. We know what she looks like; she awakens in the morning to do her daily devotions w/ a freshly brewed cup of tea, she then dons her makeup and a cute little outfit (that fits just right on her cute little frame). She makes the perfect breakfast, and everyone loves it. She kisses her husband goodbye as he trots off to work, and turns her full focus to her children, who lovingly gaze up at her, cheerfully ready to do her bidding. They work side by side tidying their already immaculate home, singing in perfect 4 part harmony as they clean. They spend the rest of the morning nestled ...

After This I Looked, and Behold
2007-11-17 14:56:00
Revelation 4After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God, and before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal. And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind: the first livi ...
