Besides dumping DAB and axing XFM outside London, there's another u-turn tucked away in the official GCap statement this morning. Capital is ditching its policy of fewer adverts. Listed as a 'key initiative':Increasing inventory at Capital 95.8 to meet demand from advertisersInteresting. When they dropped the number of ads, GCap made much ballyhoo about how it was responding to listener needs; now, presumably, with listeners not listening much their wishes are unimportant.Mind you, the policy of fewer adverts lasted longer than the simultaneous rebranding of the main London franchise as Capital Radio (again) - somewhere in the last couple of years it seems to have mutated again into Capital 98.5. If they can't decide what to call the bloody thing, what chance do they have of making any other ideas stick?It's hard to believe there's much demand from advertisers for more inventory on Capital. At the end of Janaury GCap described the advertising market as "stable".
Pepsi came up with two terrific Super Bowl ads that are both clever and funny, although recommending the product they are touting in the first ad would be a challenge. The ad is pushing Diet Pepsi Max, which includes ginseng extract and an increased amount of caffeine, all of which is designed to keep you awake.

Two days ago, I have added a new 120x240 banner inside the post with Oxado ads and replace the Bidvertiser ads. John Wall from the Ronin Marketeer blog and Marketing Over Coffee Podcast recently opened my eyes to a firefox plugin called AdBlock Plus that is internet equivalent to DVR. I just installed it and it claims to eliminate 99% of banner ads. It's scary good.Banners are often ignored anyways but if people start using effective ad-blocking software it will really make them into ineffective marketing tools. The benefit of using AdBlock is not only eliminating ads, but since these ads take time to load, your page will load faster. If enough people downloaded this free software it could have some serious effects on the business model of many sites that rely on ads for revenue.
