We are nearing the end of the year, and there's already been a lot of parties and food indulgence. But the New Year's Eve is is still a couple days ahead, so there's one more reason to make some desserts! I've had enough of my holiday baking, so when I was looking out for something simple to transform into a sweet delight, I came across mini pie crusts is Safeway. These things were so cute, I simply had to pick them up. And though I initially intended to make fruit tarts, once I got home and saw a bag of pistachios gawking out of my kitchen cabinets, my plans had changed. I craved for some nuts and ice cream, so naturally, I decided to go for these no-maintenance,extremely simple yet delicious Ice Cream pie topped with almonds, pistachios and chocolate sauce. The best thing about these pies is that they can be made a few hours before serving time, and there are a hundred ways to impprovise them to suit your tastebuds. • Review: Kashi Bars TLC Chewy Granola Bar Flavor Honey Almond Flax - almonds, honey sweetness
Honey Almond Flax since I like anything with almonds and honey in the bar it sounded like it would taste good together. This flavor is very good I really like the taste of the roasted almonds in the bars with a touch of honey sweetness. Seven whole grains plus sesame together with whole roasted almonds, flax seeds, sun-dried fruit, and a touch of wildflower honey. 5 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber, pure ingredients, and natural goodness you can see and taste are simply tasty full of flavor. - My Review of Kashi TLC Bars Cherry Dark Chocolate - Find Kashi Foods at MotherNature - Find Kashi Foods at Amazon

  • Almond Orange Marmalade Muffins
I made almond orange marmalade muffins this morning in lieu of banana bread and they were so yummy. I based them on an old recipe I had from Smuckers with several alterations. By the way, Smuckers is wishy-washy about whether/which jams, marmalades, and jellies are gluten-free. Make your own or buy a brand you trust. [...]
  • Almond Growers Want Delay Before They Have To Kill Their Almonds
Almond growers of California ABC are asking for a delay in their requirement to kill and add the necessary highly toxic flammable compounds to the almonds you'll be eating as required by the United States Government. They're being forced to pasteurize their almonds and if you don't act by the August 31st, 2007, your raw organic or natural almonds will be a thing of the past.Remember the salmonella outbreak in 2004 which affected a few people? Well, the USDA have decided that spending a few dollars on educating people (running a few TV advertising spots) on how to wash their fruits, vegetables and almonds would not be as efficient as killing all the nutrition and sterilizing the Almonds. From the San Fransisco Gate:In January, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that virtually all almonds would have to be pasteurized as of September 1. This new rule was a result of Salmonella outbreaks in 2001 and 2004 that were traced back to raw almonds. The California Almond Board is now req
  • A Strawberry & Almond Paste Pastry
Today, on 6th of June, it´s holiday. It is the Swedish National Day. This day became the Swedish national day in 1983. Previously known as Swedish flag day. It marks the coronation of Gustav Vasa in 1523. This old king defeated the Danes and established Lutheranism in Sweden. This day also marks the adoption of one of our constitutions from 1809.The Swedish Riksdag (parliament) only designated this day a public holiday in 2005. Many immigrants associate the day with receiving Swedish citizenship. They celebrate living in a free and independent country. There are celebrations in Stockholm, 600 kilometers away. I do not know what to do with a holiday in the middle of the week.Anyway, here you are. I hereby give you the recipe of our National Day Pastry. A result of a pastry chef competition. • Chocolate & Almond Cake with Cloudberry Cream
Some weeks ago I was touched by Accidental Hedonist´s blog post about cloudberries - the precious berries, which I almost take for grantage. They are a bit picky about weather, though. This plant prefers moist tundra, bog habitats and heaths. It is widespread across the low arctic and boreal forest regions - in Sweden especially in the northern part of the country.Cloudberries are sometimes damaged by frost - in the sensitive period of flowering. Picking them in July and August means that you have to stand mosquitoes and other, bigger bloodthirsty insects - fight them and feed them.Cloudberry plants are male or female. Only the female plant bears fruit; a hard red berry with seeds that turn yellowish when ripe in late July. They are extremely rich in vitamin C, but they also contain amounts of vitamin A, iron, magnesium, folacin, calcium, kalium, carotene and fibers.I cannot describe the unusual, sweet-and-sour taste. When the cloudberries are eaten fresh, they have a tart taste: A con
