  • Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner Going Solo.
Oh dear. Arctic Monkey's Alex Turner has been working on a solo albm that he recorded with The Rascal's Miles Kane. Producer of the album James Ford told BBC 6 Music: "It's quite different sounding than the Arctics’ I think, It’s kind of ‘Sixties-y’ and there’s a lot of orchestration and stuff." I wonder what the album might sound like. In other Arctic Monkey news there has been rumors that the band has reached out to Justin Timberlake for a possible collaboration. - JP's Blog [1] (a good read, check it out from time to time) Sixties-y and a lot of orchestration? • Global warming causes older Arctic sea ice to almost disappear
A new study using satellite measurements has revealed that thick Arctic sea ice older than nine years, had all but disappeared by 2007, because of global warming.   According to a report in Discovery News, this older ice is giving way to thinner ice which is only two or three years old. In fact, the new ice now accounts for 58 percent of the ice cover -- up from 35 percent in the mid-1980s.   "The thinning is consistent with long-term warming," said ice researcher James Maslanik of the University of Colorado in Boulder.   The thinner ice that's now dominating the Arctic is more vulnerable to ridging - the crumpling into ridged rafts of ice - or melting, said the report.   Either way, there will be more open water, which can absorb summer sunlight and warm up the Arctic even further, the report added.   The key to the new sea ice measurements is data from the laser altimeter onboard NASA's Ice, Cloud and Elevation Satellite (ICE-Sat).   Using the
  • Older sea ice in the Arctic giving way to younger, thinner ice
A new study by University of Colorado at Boulder researchers has indicated that sea ice in the Arctic is giving way to younger, thinner ice, making it more susceptible to record summer sea-ice lows.   For the research, the team used satellite data going back to 1982 to reconstruct past Arctic sea ice conditions. They also used passive microwave, visible infrared radar and laser altimeter satellite data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NASA and the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as ocean buoys to measure and track sections of sea ice.   According to Research Professor James Maslanik of CU-Boulder's Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research, there has been a nearly complete loss of the oldest, thickest ice and that 58 percent of the remaining perennial ice is thin and only 2-to-3 years old.   "We followed the ice in sequential images and track it back to where it had been previously, which allowed us to infer the relative ages of the ice

  • Arctic Tale (2007) DVDRip
Arctic Tale takes you to the top of the earth and the polar bears ice kingdom. This is a National Geographic film that is narrated by Queen Latifah. The biggest threat for Nanu and Seela is surviving the harsh, changing habitat climate of the north which delivers the possibility of not finding food. “X Factor” winner Leona Lewis might just smash the Arctic Monkey’s record for fastest selling debut album. Lewis’ album “Spirit” moved 130,000 units by Monday night, weekend projected sales exceed 400,000. • Review: Arctic Tale
Narrator: Queen Latifah Written by: Linda Woolverton, Mose Richards Directed by: Sarah Robertson It’s rather surprising that the success of 2005’s March of the Penguins didn’t spawn a slew of animal documentaries but when one starts to think about the amount of time and effort it takes to capture enough footage to tell a story, the trickle is understandable. Having enjoyed the penguins, I was looking forward to seeing more about life in the arctic and Arctic Tale seemed a near perfect candidate. Even the worrisome trailer couldn’t keep me away the film was not the documentary I expected. From the opening credits, when Queen Latifah is introduced as the “Storyteller”, I worried that this was going to go badly but it’s pretty hard not to “Ooooooooooo” and “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh” at baby polar bears coming out of their birthing cave for the first time. The documentary tells the story of a female polar bear, Nanu, and a female walrus, Seela, from bi

  • Bullet For My Valentine + Arctic Monkeys
Just learnt that Bullet For My Valentine will be supporting Metallica for their show at the new Wembley stadium on 8th July. Thats pretty awesome news for the boyos from Wales, to not only be supporting Hetfield and Co. but to also be playing Wembley is pretty wicked and reward for their hard work in recent months putting the new album together, which I think is out this year so i am eagerly awaiting that.LINKI have heard and now own a copy of the new Arctic Monkeys song - "Brianstorm" from the forthcoming album "Favourite Worst Nightmare" which is released on the 23rd of April. It's cool, pretty much as you'd expect from them, with the wicked guitar work and vocals. Its got a real punchy feel to it, especially near the end of the song where you think the song has ended but it cuts back in with a venom. Very good.

Its lunch time, we’re all hungry (updating from Boule Bakery in West Hollywood), and what better way to satisfy your hunger than with a new Arctic Monkeys track, coincidentally called “The Bakery”.Not a week ago, the Arctic Monkeys released “Fluorescent Adolescent”, the second single off of their sophomore album, Favourite Worst Nightmare. On one of the B-Sides of the single, the Arctics get a chance to show their softer side. On the track “The Bakery”, the boys leave behind their dancefloors and dreams of naughtiness, quite refreshing after their not so flattering “Brianstorm”. The Arctic Monkeys - “The Bakery”

This morning, for reasons that we can't begin to unravel, Victoria Newton has invested effort "proving" that the Arctic Monkeys and Alex have changed:[He] has always made a point of shunning the showbiz spotlight and acting like he is not affected by the fame game. But [...] maybe it is going to the cheeky monkey’s head. How so, Victoria? She points to two previous events:The band have become increasingly obsessed with fancy dress and recently wore clown costumes for a performance on JONATHAN ROSS’s BBC1 chat show. And earlier this year they wore Wizard Of Oz outfits to record their Brit Awards acceptance message — having shunned that ceremony, despite winning the two top gongs. Now, most people - even those not keen on the Monkeys - would interpret turning up to play a song on Ross' show dressed as a clown or accepting the Brits dressed as friends of Dorothy as being a shrug at the institution rather than an embrace of fame's tender caress.Besides, this is all somewhat old, so do
  • Arctic Tale Trailer and Free Screening News
First it was Universal giving away tickets to screenings of Peaceful Warrior and now Paramount is continuing the marketing ploy. This time around, it’s a documentary called Arctic Tale, which tracks a polar bear and walrus over a span of ten years. The pictures and the synopsis below, which was included in the screening information email, suggest one movie but the trailer suggests something completely different. From National Geographic Films, the people who brought you March of the Penguins and Paramount Classics, the studio that brought you An Inconvenient Truth, Arctic Tale is an epic adventure that explores the vast world of the Great North. The film follows the walrus, Seela and the polar bear, Nanu, on their journey from birth to adolescence to maturity and parenthood in the frozen Arctic wilderness. Once a perpetual winter wonderland of snow and ice, the walrus and the polar bear are losing their beautiful icebound world as it melts from underneath them. Queen Latifah isn
