The Pfizer Foundation announced a groundbreaking $33 million multi-year program to address the emerging challenges in cancer and tobacco control. The first round of the Global Health Partnerships grants has already been awarded to 15 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in 26 countries around the world - from Algeria, China and Japan to Italy, Brazil and Argentina. The program reflects both the Pfizer Foundation and Pfizer's global commitment to working with a diverse group of local NGO experts towards improving the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and reducing the disease's incidence and burden.Cancer accounts for one in eight deaths globally- more than AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined. In the 20th century, the tobacco epidemic killed 100 million people worldwide. According to the World Health Organization's (WHO) 2008 report the global tobacco epidemic, by 2030, there will be more than 8 million deaths every year unless urgent action is taken. An estimated 80 percent of thes

I received a lovely award from a lovely blogger friend-- Fida Abbott. She is from Indonesia, come to Pennsylvania to live with her American husband. I don't think I've ever met such a sweet, lovely blogger. She is becoming a very dear friend. She also has a pretty cool blog and has a wonderful following among Indonesian readers.Recently, she granted me the prestigious blogger award, Rockin Girl Blogger. What an honor! I accept this award with many thanks to my good friend. God bless you, Fida! It would be so wonderful to meet you someday, but even if we don't here, I know we will be together with our Lord Jesus someday!I have the privilege to bestow this award on other bloggers. I am going to choose the following bloggers who I think are truly "rockin girl bloggers"! Congratulations, ladies! Too bad I can only give you a cute pink button and not some gorgeous tvs with popup tv lifts. Maybe someday! Have fun with your awards, anyway! ;)My dear friend, HH, from Adventures in the Life of U
In a competition with rivals such as the Viewty, Nokia 6500 classic and the G600, the Sony Ericsson W910 won the GSM Association’s award for Best Phone of 2007. Despite all the new devices presented at the World Mobile Congress, the judges preferred to play it safe by choosing an older but a customer tested phone, which the W910 proved to be.

In Filmfare Award 2008, A Calculated Prediction, I had predicted that Darsheel Safary would win the Best Actor Award for Taare Zameen Par this time breaking the trend of an adult actor winning the award everytime. Of course, the prediction has not yet come true..not yet; but there is a sure glimmer of hope that the little master Darsheel will sweep the Best Actor trophy this time…. And why shouldn’t he? The boy’s performance was simply the best. If I could find any other superlative word for the performance, I would have used that. Darsheel Safary has made the likes of L.K. Advani, Shatrughan Sinha weep with his performance. This is no child’s play to give such an impactful performance. Some of the high impact performances of Darsheel Safary are: 1. When he runs up the terrace of his building after bashing up(and getting bashed) with boys in his building. The way he winces in pain was quite realistic and made us go back to our childhood when we would get our noses sma

The international jury of the 51st annual World Press Photo Contest selected a colour image of the UK photographer Tim Hetherington as World Press Photo of the Year 2007. The picture was taken 16 September 2007 and shows a US soldier resting at Restrepo bunker, named after a soldier from his platoon who was recently killed by insurgents. The 2nd Battalion Airborne of the 503rd US infantry is undergoing a deployment in the Korengal Valley in the Eastern province of Afghanistan. The valley is infamous as the site of downing of a US helicopter and has seen some of the most intense fighting in the country. Hetherington's photograph is part of a picture story that was also awarded 2nd Prize in General News Stories. He had traveled to Afghanistan on assignment for Vanity Fair."This image shows the exhaustion of a man - and the exhaustion of a nation," says jury chairman Gary Knight, and adds "We're all connected to this. It's a picture of a man at the end of a line." Fellow juror MaryAnne Gol

This weekend we took all the kids (plus 4 extra) to a motel in a neighboring town to do a swim/sleepover for Becca's birthday.
I was aprehensive about how Jack would do while we were at this sleepover but didn't want all of the kids to suffer because he has not been properly trained in the ways of the world. So we all went.
Saturday night went great because we spent 90% of our time in the pool.

WINNER: Helio CastronevesDancing Partner: Julianne Houghwhen it comes to winning "Dancing With the Stars" - Fan support is just as critical as fancy footwork. As a professional dancer, Spice Girl Melanie Brown was easily the most polished finalist, consistently wowing the judges with her versatility and flair in this show. She and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, were the highest-scoring couple throughout the hit show's fifth season. On Tuesday night show, viewers snubbed Brown and gave the mirrorball trophy award to race-car driver Helio Castroneves. The fourth consecutive man to win the contest, Castroneves' personality, enthusiasm and flashing smile - combined with an effortless quickstep on his final performance - they clearly resonated more with voters.Castroneves said after the show - "It's not only about dancing, you know? It's about popularity," . "That's what I'm actually very happy about." The ABC show began in September with a dozen dancers whose are models, actress, actor, dancer in their

How do you beat the 2007 Camera of the Year at its own game? Drop two zeros off its name and double its price -- and you get the Nikon D3 pro DSLR, (street: $5000.00) with a full-frame sensor, super-tough body, and faster burst rate. There's more to it than that, and we're still running a production model of the D3 through our gauntlet of tests in the Pop Photo Lab. But we can give you a peek at one of the D3's most outstanding feature: low noise at high ISOs.Even at ISO 200, the added light-gathering capability of the larger pixels on the D3's 12.1MP full-frame sensor beats the D300's 12.3MP APS-sized sensor. Shooting RAW takes full advantage of the D3's lower noise and 14-bits-per-color capture. And it gives you much more flexibility, especially when using the trial version of Capture NX 1.3 software (included with the camera) to convert NEF RAW to 16-bit TIFF files.Capture NX's exposure and noise reduction controls let you strike a balance between resolution and noise, depending on

I would like to thank from the bottoms of my heart my friend Milton from Bluedreamer's Paradisefor awarding me this "Interesting Blog" award!Blessed Be my friend!
I strongly feel that Darsheel Safary should win the best actor award for 2007 because one cannot judge an actor according to a particular age. A performance is a performance, regardless of age. If you go by public demand the performance which really moved people was the one of young Darsheel. To keep a separate category as the best child actor would be discounting his power house performance. It was an author backed role and Darsheel fitted the role to the hilt. If Haley Joel Osment can be given an Oscar nomination for the best actor for Sixth sense, so can Darsheel be nominated for the best actor award here. Hats off to Aamir Khan and Amol Gupte for guiding the boy adeptly and extracting the best out of him for Taare Zameen Par. I had a written an article to the effect in Mid-day, the Mumbai newspaper which has been published. Wish a lot of people take a note of this aspect. The year 2007 may have been a superb year for Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar with a 100 percent success rate
My friend Chris from Living Well blog awarded me this today...Thank you very much Chris - i'm truely honoured!(NOTE: The original point of reference for this award belongs to Colin at the Free PC Security blog Cheers my friend!)
Since its start in 2005, the Epson art photo award already achieved two major successes. It is time to surpass what has been done. Round three is starting now!And this one is a very special round: As of 2007, the partner of the Epson art photo award, ART COLOGNE, is moving its exhibition schedule from autumn to spring. We would without a doubt like to continue our partnership with ART COLOGNE to offer our winners a venue in which they can present their works for the first time. For this reason, the application dates for the competition are of course different. For this “bridge year”, it specifically means: Groups and classes can submit their works and concepts from March 2007 to January 31st 2008. They can participate with works from the 2007/08 winter semester as well as the 2007 summer semester. All works must be sent by January 31st 2008 at the latest. We warmly invite you to apply for the Epson art photo award 2007/08 with your class or group at your academy, college, university o

For sport fans across the UK the BBC’s Sport Personality of the Year show is an institution. The show aired live last Sunday from the Birmingham NEC as part of a bumper weekend of UK sport with Ricky Hatton competing in Las Vegas for a world boxing title. The two hour show which as well as handing out awards recaps the year in sport did give us an overview of a year which has been an almost but not quite year for British sports. We had the England Rugby team losing in the final of the World Cup, England and Scotland’s football teams just missing out on Euro 2008, Lewis Hamilton finishing as runner up in his first season in Formula 1 and finally Ricky Hatton losing to Floyd Mayweather Jnr on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Now the UK may only be a small isle but it is a proud nation who can boast of being the home of many sports and many famous sporting triumphs. The last few years however have been littered with underachievement and near misses. On Saturday thousands of British fans of

The film has been honoured by all the other critic societies including the Washington D.C. Film Critics Association (I mention it because I haven't reported that win yet). The Los Angeles Film Critics Association have announced their annual film awards and Ratatouille has tied with Persepolis for the Animation award. There has been some doubt as to how well the 2D animated feature would hold up against Ratatouille come awards time and the LAFCA appear to be telling us that Ratatouille will have serious competition come Annie/Oscar time next year. What are you thoughts? Will Ratatouille prevail? You can view the entire list of winners here.
