  • Soup season: cream split peas and bacon soup
Note: For the French version it's here.God it's cold outside! Ok I must admit I might be a little chilly and I turn into an ice-cube very easily. Let face it: even here in Antibes under the palm trees I think it's freezing outside ... and I'm going to New-York and Quebec for the Holidays ... crazy me!If you're like me: freezing, a little home made cream soup will warm you up, I promise and with not a lot of work! After the cream Hakkaido squash soup featured here, let me introduce: the cream split peas and bacon soup ("velouté de pois-cassés et lardons" ). I had the idea to add bacon to the split peas after having a frozen chickpeas soup from "Mister Picard" (if you live in France you know who is Mister Picard: the king of frozen food, it's a store chain, expensive but meal saver).Ingredients:- 2 cups and a half of split peas (around 250g)- 4 carrots- 4 slices of bacon (150g of "lardons")- 1 cup (around 20cl) of dairy cream- 30 seeds of coriander- gingerDirections:1- Cook the split pe

Membership was by invitation only."The site allowed the uploading and downloading of pre-release music and media to thousands of members."Members paid 'donations' via debit or credit cards, ensuring their continued access to the site."The arrests took place in Teesside, following a raid on the servers in the Netherlands. IFPI spokespeople claim the site was responsible for "the leaking" of 60 pre-release albums this year:They were encouraged to distribute recordings in the torrent file format with other OiNK members, and have to keep posting such music to the site to maintain their membership."Once an album had been posted on the OiNK website, the users that download that music th

  • Six attempts at Kevin Bacon
We can't figure out why they're bothering, but Footlose - the film that made Kevin Bacon, although only into a punchline - is about to be remade. As a musical. In similar slightly-tangential music-related movie news, there's to be a third instalment of Bill and Ted. Without either of them:The Times reports both Winter and Reeves were interested in reprising their roles, but the latter's agent suggested it could ruin the Matrix star's career. Can't do much more harm than the third Matrix film, surely? And we're at a loss as to why Alex Winter isn't taking part - after all, it's unlikely his acting work - including voicing the King of the Mole Men in a cartoon and, erm, his uncredited appearance as a "subway passenger" in 1999's Fever would be set back by appearing in a movie where he would have been on-screen for a little longer.(We know, by the way, that he did a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff for Fever. We don't know anyone who's ever seen it, mind.)
  • Ron Paul: Bringing Home the Bacon
Indicators are that Mr.Paul's internet based fund raising machine is working pretty darn well.Ron Paul Tops McCain in Cash on HandABC News' George Stephanopoulos Reports:Though often regarded as a longshot candidate for president, Republican Ron Paul tells ABC News that he has an impressive $2.4 million in cash on hand after raising an equal amount during the second quarter, putting him ahead of one-time Republican frontrunner John McCain, who reported this week he has only $2 million in the bank. In an exclusive interview taped Friday and airing Sunday on "This Week," Paul said his campaign is on a better trajectory than McCain's. "I think some of the candidates are on the down-slope, and we're on the up-slope," said Paul. Paul's cash on hand puts him in third place in the Republican field in that important metric, although he is well behind leader Rudy Giuliani, who has $18 million in the bank, and Mitt Romney, with $12 million. Paul, who polls show with support in the lo

  • Beer & Cheddar Cheese Soup with Bacon
“He was a wise man who invented beer,” Plato correctly noted, but it was an even wiser person that coupled it with aged cheddar to make soup. Come to think of it, it was probably a couple of people, the same ones that first mixed chocolate with peanut butter. I rooted around the lumber room of the internet looking for the history and found nothing. The origin of cheese predates recorded history and beer is one of the oldest human-produced beverages, so I’m assuming the recipe is likely as old. Beer (due to the brewing process) was safer to drink than the water and milk (which was usually preserved as cheese) so I’m sure the nomadic Turkic peoples sat around the yurt campfire eating this wonderful silky soup while listening to a Manaschi reciting some beautiful epic poem as the sun slowly nodded below the horizon and the stars began glistening wetly over the dry evening, they relined in the silent embrace of nature and nibbled peanut butter cups for dessert. Don’t quote me on
