  • Bloggers own the music industry's ass. Or at least the love handles.
Well, maybe not, but a study conducted by New York University's Stern Business School, Does Chatter Matter? The Impact of User-Generated Content on Music Sales, reports that albums which build a number of blog mentions during the time around their release do better than you might otherwise expect:Our findings are as follows: (a) the volume of blog posts about an album is positively correlated with future sales, (b) greater increases in an artists Myspace friends week over week have a weaker correlation to higher future sales, (c) traditional factors are still relevant albums released by major labels and albums with a number of reviews from mainstream sources like Rolling Stone also tended to have higher future sales. We're not entirely sure this should be unexpected, as it's effectively saying 'if people are talking about your product, it must be good for sales' - a truism advertising men from the days of the front of the twentieth century would understand. But given that major l

  • Calling All Conservative, Moderate, and Libertarian Bloggers
After participating in last weekends Blog Amnesty Day I find that my new blogroll is heavily slanted to the left. In the interest of fairness and shameless self promotion I'd like to correct that. So if you'd like to swap links let me know in the comments of this post, slap a link to my blog on yours, and I'll do the same. Additionally every blog participating will be listed in this post so that as this progresses you'll know which blogs are open to trading links and you can drop them a line too. Finally many of the lovely and talented people on my link love blogroll would be happy to trade links with you as well. Thanks,Dyre

  • Bloggers are Opinion leaders
Have you ever wondered who the most influential people in the World are? Are they politicians or are they the celebrities - actors and actresses, singers? Paris Hilton? I certainly hope not because apart from a few, majority are definitely not good role models. I asked a few of my friends and quite a few mentioned their parents. Some mentioned peer groups and in particular- the opinion leaders. So who are these opinion leaders?Searching for a suitable definition, I cam across several. Wikipedia defines an opinion leader as "the agent who is an active media user and who interprets the meaning of media messages or content for lower-end media users. Typically the opinion leader is held in high esteem by those that accept their opinions". However, I prefer the definition given by Ronald S. Burt in his paper "The Social Capital of Opinion Leaders" in The ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, Vol. 566, No. 1, 37-54 (1999). According to him, "Opinion leaders are more

  • Donald Trump Is Now Hiring Bloggers!
Donald Trump. Hmmm. . . Where will I start?Perhaps the most recent event of this bad hair day billionaire (my envy got the best of me, sorry donald) was his "fight" in the WWE. He was represented by a wresler against Vince Mcmahon's bet and the loser? Well, co-incidentally, would have his hair shaved off in front of some 80,000 crowd in Detroit. Of course his bet won the match but imagine how he would look like if he lost the match? God, that would be the epitome of a perfect pay-per-view. How do you think he would look like?Anyways, before this blog turns into a gossip blog, the last time I checked payperpost, I found an offer that really caught my attention. I noticed that the first two offers were from the sites of Donald Trump himself. Here's the screenshot I made:(Click for clearer image)What does this tell us?Blogging is gaining more importance.More and more people are realizing that blogs comprise an integral part of building online reputation.
