  • Reflections of President Fidel Castro: The Republican Candidate - (Part Two)
ONE of the most hostile U.S. newspapers when it comes to Cuba, headquartered in Florida, offers the following report: “Taking advantage of the negotiations to free the Bay of Pigs’ prisoners, the CIA tried to use a key person in the talks, American lawyer James B. Donovan, to deliver a lethal gift to Fidel Castro: a wetsuit contaminated with a fungus that lacerates the skin and an underwater breathing device infected with tuberculosis...the gear in fact was given to the Cuban leader in November 1962. “The revelation is one of many anecdotes in After the Bay of Pigs, a book on the negotiations held between the Committee of Relatives for the Liberation of Prisoners and Havana from April to December 1962. “The 238-page book, published late last year, was written by Cuban exile Pablo Pérez-Cisneros with businessman John B. Donovan, son of the late negotiator, and Jeff Koenreich, a veteran member of the Red Cross who has promoted humanitarian missions between the United States

  • Reflections of President Fidel Castro: The Republican Candidate
(Part One) THESE reflections are self-explanatory. On the now well-known Super Tuesday, a day of the week when many U.S. states selected the candidate of their choice from among a pool of aspirants to the presidency of the United States, one of the possible candidates to substitute George W. Bush was John McCain. Because of his pre-designed image as a hero and his alliance with strong contenders like the former mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, other hopefuls had already gladly given their support. The heavy propaganda of weighty social, economic and political factors in his country and his style of conduct had made him the candidate with the best possibilities. Only the Republican extreme right, represented by Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee, dissatisfied with certain insignificant concessions made by McCain, were still putting up resistance to him on February 5. Afterward, Romney also abandoned his candidacy, ceding to McCain’s. Huckabee is still a candidate. The struggle for a c
  • Pak suicide blast kills ten, including election candidate
A suicide bomber killed at least ten people, including an election candidate and injured 13 others in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal region on Monday. The attacker rammed his car, which was laden with explosives into candidate, Nisar Ali's convoy, police said on condition of anonymity. "Ten people were killed, including election candidate Nisar Ali and an administration official, while 13 others were wounded in the attack on their convoy," the Dawn quoted an official, saying. Elections in Pakistan will be held on February 18. On Saturday, a suicide bomber had attacked an election rally of the opposition Awami National Party, killing at least 30 and wounding several others. (ANI)
  • I don’t want to be PPP’s future PM candidate: Zardari
Co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Asif Ali Zardari has said that he did not want to be the PPP’s future Prime Minister candidate if party comes to power in February 18 polls. Zardari said that it was Babar Awan who in his personal capacity had advised him to accept the premier post, and added that his candidature for the PM’s slot was not the party decision. Zardari, who announced on Monday in an interview to Newsweek that he would be the future Prime Minister if the people of Pakistan voted the PPP into power, was talking to the office-bearers of the Karachi Press Club at the Naudero house of his slain wife Benazir Bhutto. He made it clear that the PPP has decided to abolish all anti-people amendments in the 1973 Constitution. He said the Constitution was a comprehensive document and recognised by all the political parties and masses of the country, adding the rulers destroyed it by bringing amendment after amendment merely to justify their misdeeds and prolon
  • Putin's candidate Medvedev says 'No' to TV debates
MOSCOW (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin's chosen successor, Dmitry Medvedev, has refused to meet his rivals for the presidency in live television debates ahead of the March 2 election. His opponents denounced his decision as unfair and said it would make it even harder for opposition candidates to gain airtime to get across their views. "Dmitry Medvedev has informed the Central Election Commission about his decision not to take part in joint events," a member of his campaign staff said. The 42-year-old lawyer, buoyed by strong support from the popular Putin, is already way ahead of all rivals in opinion polls and gets blanket coverage on state-run media. Official campaign rules envisage live TV debates among candidates. But in past elections Putin and his United Russia have refused to take part, saying they saw no worthy partners to debate with. The Election Commission has disqualified an ex-prime minister, Mikhail Kasyanov, from running in the election leaving Medv

  • Candidate Statements on Illegal Immigration
Cross posted from The Virtuous RepublicWhat positions do the candidates take on illegal immigration? Themain contenders for president all have position “papers” posted ontheir websites. You don’t need me to tell you who to vote for, based onthe illegal immigration issue, but I’m simply going to present theirstated beliefs and positions on this issue. As you read the statements of the candidates from both parties, Ithink it is pretty clear who is serious about immigration and who isn’tand it is almost crystal clear who wants a border fence and who wantsto keep the masses across the border—across the border.Considering that Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter both have left thepresidential race, it is incumbent upon those of us against illegalimmigration to make sure we don’t elect someone sympathetic to amnestyand who will conduct business as usual at the border. With that being said, here are the positions of the variouscandidates on illegal immigration, as posted on their camp

He’s facing serious opposition in Ohio’s 10th Congressional district.
  • A "Nightmare" Of A Candidate
So “Senator Honor And Virtue” is telling everyone in his latest T.V. ad that he’s “The Democrats’ Worst Nightmare,” is he?Well, this tells us that the race has tightened up between McCain and a Democratic opponent, I’ll admit, but I would point out two things first: 1) They aren’t running head to head yet (and I like all three of our front runners better than any of the Repugs, though I’m partial of course), and 2) It’s not assured by any means that McCain will end up winning the Republican nomination.Besides, all one has to do to find out what’s going on with “The Straight Talk Express” is to read here about his Baghdad photo-op, among other missteps (with too many of the American sheeple apparently lulled into the notion that Iraq is just hunky dory right now if The Almighty Petraeus says so) and his unflinching Bushco orthodoxy (and what “good company” he keeps also, as you can see here; D’Amato is a stooge, but Phil Gramm is one of the authors of our

  • John McCain People Calling Him Not a Hero but What He Went Through Makes Him Hero, My Thoughts, a Candidate for the Republican Party
John McCain is the candidate for the Republican Party in the 2008 election. Talk in the news about him not being a hero by some people that don’t like him. The history behind this situation is he was the in the United States Navy. During the Vietnam War become a prisoner of war for over five years and it was hell for him. He was released in 1973. Anyway, certain people have been calling him not a hero and other not so nice comments. My comments on this are what he went through at that time does make him a hero. That was a hard thing to go through in his life being captured like that. Him surviving this to become a senator along with a presidential candidate for United States of America very much makes him a hero in my eyes. - Books John McCain

  • 1 less candidate
Bill Richardson is quitting.  The Democrats will probably do worse but he could not win his own party.
  • Barack Obama: A candidate straight out of Wall Street central casting
It is to early in the campaign for me to get to excited about the 2008 US Presidential election, but it is interesting how the worlds media seems to be wetting itself over Barack Obama, which in itself should be a bit of a wake up call for all progressives. In my opinion Obama lacks political gravitas and seems to me to be in the mould of the European clean skin politicians that have emerged in the last decade, such as Angela Merkel, Tony Blair and David Cameron, Obama’s language is also very similar, slick but meaningless politically. I noticed he has refused to come out in favor of universal health care free at the point of need. If one takes into account that for many US families, health care costs is one if not the most pressing problem they face, then his stance is cowardly to say the least, the more so when one takes into account that the private health care industry is the most powerful political lobby in the USA.I also noticed that when US members of the Republican Party bas
  • 2008 Presidential Candidate Immigration Profiles - Numbers USA

  • Russian Opposition Presidential Candidate Shot
Russia gets worse by the day. Coming out today: Russian opposition candidate shot.Farid Babayev, who will lead the regional list for the liberal anti-Kremlin Yabloko party was in a serious condition in hospital, RIA novosti news agency reported after an unidentified gunman fired on him in the regional capital Makhachkala. This comes as Putin continues his maneuverings that will essentially allow him to stay in power indefinitely. He has dissolved parliament recently, and appointed a close ally prime minister. He has promised to take part in parliamentary elections, with victory assured. He will be elected prime minister. From there, Putin will either sap powers from the presidency making the prime minister’s office the most important one (which has no term limits, by the way), or will manipulate the lame-duck president from the shadows.

  • Is Tony Blair a candidate for a body bag?
On the day of the vote in the UK Parliament which was to endorse Tony Blair decision for the British military to take part in the USA led invasion of Iraq, I told my local MP who had telephoned me to explain why he was voting in favor of this illegal and obscene act, that Tony Blair was either the biggest charlatan to have ever held the office of British Prime Minister [PM] or the stupidest man ever to do so. Since that fateful day which brought untold misery on to the heads of the Iraqi people and not a little to the doors of the families of the dead and wounded UK service personnel. I have reconsidered my assessment of Mr Blair and concluded that far from being a either charlatan or fool, he is in human form an amalgam of these two sorry human traits. That the MP in question claimed to believe Blair’s nonsense that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction that could strike at the UK or its interests within forty five minutes is for him and his conscience. I for one amongst millions o

  • Why is a Presidential Candidate Having a Gospel Tour?
The Christianity of Gospel music is part of Obama's campaign message, not at all incidental. That's of concern to me as a non-religious American, because it implies that there is something defective with being non-religious, much in the same way that Donnie McClurkin says that non-heterosexuals are defective. Barack Obama cannot go around trying to show voters that he's worthy of being elected because he's an eager Christian without implying that a candidate for President who is not as eager about public displays of Christianity is somehow less worthy of support.
  • Q&A With Presidential Candidate Duncan Hunter
The toughest challenge Duncan Hunter has is name recognition. He's not a governor or senator, so he's not well-known nationally. He's the most Conservative guy running with a 92% rating from the American Conservative Union. I cannot figure out why Conservatives would vote for any other Republican candidate. For a little more info on Duncan Hunter, here's a recent Q&A. Question: You have been doing well in several states' straw polls, but not registering highly in the national polls. What is the disconnect? Answer: In Texas, there were 1,300 delegates, who had either been to the national convention or the state convention, and I beat the nearest guy, Fred Thompson, by better than 2-to-1. Now the Iowa straw poll, where you had to pay $35 a vote, I announced early on I wasn't going to pay a dime for anybody's vote. If you wanted to vote for me, you'd have to pay it out of your own pocket. We weren't even contenders in that. Romney won that straw poll big. I did win the Ariz

  • A good candidate for plastic surgery:
Am I a good candidate for surgery? This is one of the most frequently asked questions from people around the globe to surgeons. The answer is just as simple as the question. An irresolute patient is not a good contender for plastic surgery. A patient with unrealistic goals also contributes to not be a good applicant for surgery.People with health problems like diabetes, hypertension, lung disease, heart disease, high cholesterol, arthritis, emphysema don’t generally form good candidates for cosmetic surgery. An emaciated, severely depressed, corpulent or someone who is a chain smoker or heavy drinker does not make a good applicant for surgery. Most plastic and cosmetic surgeons will ask potential patients a sequence of questions upon their original. The idea of asking the questions is to calculate whether the patient is genuinely bearing in mind plastic surgery to look and feel in good health, or if the patient is in quest of plastic surgery as a means of camouflaging emotional sufferin

  • Fred Thompson The Lazy Man’s Candidate
The Independent has led us to a great suggestion for an unofficial motto for the Fred Thompson presidential campaign: Vote Fred Thompson 2008… Or 2009, Maybe. He’ll Get Around To It, Okay? Fred Thompson’s supporters are getting downright ticked off at the candidate’s series of delays and excuses for not getthing his formal presidential campaign going on time. Fred Thompson is still officially exploring the possibility of becoming a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, but now that there’s just a few months before the primaries begin, Thompson is failing even to meet his exploratory campaign’s fundraising goals. Rumors are that Fred Thompson just has a hard time getting out of bed in the morning and making himself work on the campaign. As the Independent puts it, “procrastination has cost him some of his lustre. He also has a reputation for laziness, and there are claims that he does not have the energy for presidenti
  • Democratic Candidates - Won’t or Might Vote for Sure - 08 Presidential Candidate - 2008 Election
The Democratic presidential candidates for 2008 presidential election is such a heated race already. Everyone is talking about who you might vote for, so that gave me the idea to do the opposite. Blog about the candidate I won’t be voting for even though I am not sure exactly who I am voting for yet. I already know some of the candidates I will not be voting for sure. However, like anything in life thoughts could change with more debates and etc. Won’t Vote for Sure - Senator Joe Biden, Senator Christopher Dodd, Governor Bill Richardson, Former Senator John Edwards, Representative Dennis Kucinich and Former Senator Mike Gravel. Why I will not vote for them it is some about issues but more about an emotion or a feeling I get from them an inner energy. I do like some of them while others been Washington since the 70’s so influenced by that lifestyle in DC. I don’t think anything would change important issues with not in reality of what is really going on with the American people.
