A Scottish castle brimming with European antiques is not what you would expect to see in Northern Douglas County. Nor would you expect to run into over 3,000 acres of pristine undeveloped land just east of Castle Pines Village. Even odder, this castle and the land was owned and governed by a Southern belle who raised cattle.Colorado's beauty and sunny days attract all sorts of people with interesting pasts and Tweet Kimble brought her life steeped in European culture to our Rocky Mountain State.Englewood author Corinne Joy Brown was one of the last writers to interview Tweet before she died in 1999. Tweet's character was so strong and so fascinating to Corinne that Tweet served as the inspiration for her historic novel "MacGregor's Lantern." The castle Tweet owned was modeled after Scottish castles. During the research for Corinne's book, Corinne discovered that the Scots dominated in the ranching industry in Colorado and Wyoming. It may have been this influence that encouraged the cas

Today the National Park Service owns the castle gives guided tours of the property in death Valley. The Scotty's Castle Visitor Center and Museum is currently open year-round, and approximately 100,000 people tour the villa each year. During the summer, the Park Service offers tours of the house approximately hourly between 9:30 AM and 4:00 PM, and four underground tours scattered throughout the day. During the rest of the year, the Park Service offers house tours more frequently, usually every 10 minutes throughout the day between 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM, and also offers underground tours more frequently.View Larger Map

Audio Interview between Sean, a student at Castle Rock Aikido and Aikido instructors, Jeff Albright Sensei and Miho Shiraki SenseiSean: Let's get to know about your Aikido school. Who are your students? Do they all come from Castle Rock?Jeff: We get all types of students, they come from all over the place, outside of Castle Rock – as far north as Westminster and we have two students from Colorado Springs as well.We get all kinds of different students, working professionals, parents; we've got a couple of college students, so we have a wide variety. We tend to get students in the 30-40 range, people who are searching and looking for different things as far as self development and personal development goes.Sean: And don't you guys have students older than that also?Jeff: Oh yes, we've had students as old as, I think 77 in Castle Rock.Sean: Wow. I bet a lot of people do not think of practicing martial arts in their 60's and 70's, do they?Jeff: They probably don't but there are many stud

There is a great new form of stress relief available in Castle Rock. It's called Aikido (pronounced 'eye'-'key'-do'). Aikido is a unique form of Japanese exercise that fully engages your mind and body providing an excellent outlet for stress relief. Aikido is a martial art, but can be practiced at any level of intensity according to the needs or physical capabilities of the student. Unlike most martial arts, there are no punches or kicks in Aikido so injury is extremely rare. A student learns to move their body effectively and efficiently by employing almost dance-like moves that first evade and then off balance their partner (who is pretending to be an attacker) without injuring him or her. In addition to providing stress relief and a clear state of mind, it has the added benefit of being quite cardiovascular. So you de-stress and get fit at the same time.People of all ages practice Aikido, but it is particularly beneficial for adults. In fact, you’re never too old to start pr
Samurai were a class of Japanese military nobility who served a feudal lord and/or the Japanese Emperor. The word samurai derives from the Japanese verb "samorau," which means "to serve." Samurai came into power as a warrior class in the early 12th century and were subsequently disbanned, virtually becoming extinct, in the late 1880s with the fall of the feudal system of Japan and the rise of industry and westernization. Born and raised in Kitakyushu, a town in the Southern Japan Prefecture of Fukuoka, Miho Shiraki Sensei is a descendant of a long line of samurai warriors of feudal Japan. Growing up, Miho had heard stories about her family's ancestors being pacifist, Shinto priests. What she didn't really know until recently was why did those ancestors become Shinto priests in the first place? Miho's mother told her about samurai of the Shiraki family who had left the samurai class and became pacifists to atone for their violent past. Sometime between 1100 and 1800 lived this samurai-t
Here's a reality of life when it comes to exercise; "If it’s boring, you won't do it. Period!" Most people know they should exercise more, but most people simply don't. This not necessarily because they don't want to be in better shape, but because so many popular kinds of exercises and fitness routines are utterly boring! If you're bored of endlessly walking on treadmills or elliptical trainers at the gym while watching overly-violent news broadcasts; or if you've tried yoga and Pilates but find them painfully slow, then I have a suggestion for you. Come try Aikido!Aikido, pronounced 'eye'-'key'-'doh', is a unique Japanese exercise that engages your entire body in a really fun and entertaining way. Aikido is a martial art, but can be practiced at any level of intensity according to the needs or physical capabilities of the student. Unlike most martial arts, there are no punches or kicks in Aikido so injury is extremely rare. You learn to move their body effectively and efficiently b
Montezuma Castle is one of a number of well-preserved ancient dwellings in north central Arizona, including the Wupatki, Tonto, Walnut Canyon, and Tuzigoot national monuments. It is probably the most spectacular; an imposing 20 room, 5-storey structure built into a recess in a white limestone cliff about 70 feet above the ground. When first (re)discovered the ruins were thought to be Aztec in origin, hence the name bestowed on them by early explorers, but they are now known to belong to the Sinagua Indian peoples who farmed the surrounding land between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries, before abandoning the area. The National Monument: The castle is just two miles from I-17 (exit 289; north Camp Verde) at the end of a side road that winds across flat scrubland and down into the valley formed by Beaver Creek - a small stream, but a reliable source of water all year round and hence a good locality for the Sinagua to establish a home. Today there is a visitor center with a small museum
It is the mission of Castle Rock AIKIDO "to forge in our students a strength of character so strong, that conflict becomes unnecessary." Many assume that the "conflict" we refer to in our mission statement is physical conflict such as fighting with others. However, the conflict we mean to emphasize is inner conflict - the mental, emotional and even spiritual conflict most of us struggle within each and every day. Through the practice of Aikido we discover within ourselves a physical path to self-mastery…
Perhaps the most important element of a martial arts school is the head instructor (referred to as a sensei). Most people want a talented martial arts instructor who is a great teacher, actively involved in the student's progress, and is someone who the student can respect. At Castle Rock Aikido, we couldn't agree more. We are honored to have two head instructors, a husband and wife team, who have trained for years in Japan with some of the most respected Aikido instructors. Today we will feature Jeff Albright, our head Aikido instructor.About Dr. Jeff Albright"Sensei" Jeff Albright has been practicing martial arts for over 20 years. He presently holds a 3rd degree black belt in Aikido. Dr. Albright also holds black belts in Karate and Iaido (a.k.a. Samurai sword); and he holds teaching certificates in various other marital art styles.Jeff has taught classes at well-known Aikido schools in Nagasaki, Japan and instructed officers and personnel for the Japanese Self-Defense Forces. Trim Castle (Caisleán Bhaile Atha Troim in Irish), Trim, County Meath, Ireland, on the shores of the Boyne is the largest and one of the most important Norman military constructions in Ireland. It is the remains of the largest Norman castle in Europe, and it was built primarily by Hugh de Lacy and his son [...]
Situated on the southern bank of the River Boyne, Trim Castle in Country Meath casts a medieval shadow over its urban surroundings. Encompassing 3 acres of land, Ireland’s largest Norman fortress attests to the strength of the invaders’ grip on the kingdom of Meath. Aptly described as Ireland’s “King of castles”, King John’s [...]

There's something strange going on in Castle Rock. Residents over fifty years old are beginning to practice a Japanese martial art called Aikido (pronounced 'eye-key-doh').Aikido isn't exclusively for men and women over fifty, but Aikido does seem to have an affinity for that age group. "I think it is because Aikido is a great form of exercise and a powerful form of self-defense, but still allows you to go to work on each morning without being covered in bruises and broken bones," says instructor Jeff Albright.Husband and wife instructors Jeff and Miho Albright don't seem surprised that their Aikido program is attracting people over fifty. "We have a tendency to attract more a intellectual, mature and introspective student, which may come with age, I suppose" he continued. "Our students really are here to become better people. It makes it a pleasure to teach them and we learn so much from them, as well." According to the instructors, there are no young, "hot-heads" with a chip on their
Miho Shiraki Albright teaches the samurai sword and the Japanese martial art of Aikido in Castle Rock. However, she wasn't always in Colorado. Born and raised in Kitakyushu, a town in the Southern Japan Prefecture of Fukuoka, Miho is a descendant of a long line of samurai warriors of feudal Japan.Samurai were a class of Japanese military nobility who served a feudal lord and/or the Japanese Emperor. Carrickfergus is on the coast just 20 minutes or so north of Belfast so it’s easy to get to.
The castle is, of course, the main attraction of the town. Whilst it’s open all year with exhibitions depicting the history from the 1100s, it’s best to catch it during one of the Summer celebrations that are held. Allow about an hour to fully cover all the permanent exhibitions.
Strangely enough for such a major construction, much of its history isn’t known to great precision so you’ll find that the outer ward was probably added between 1228 and 1242 rather than having an exact date. In fact the only exact date quoted is that of the landing of King William the third on June 14th 1690 which is commemorated by a small plaque at the end of the pier which you can see in this photograph and also by his statue outside the castle.
Sadly the castle fell into disrepair after this time though it was still being used as a fortress when it was captured for the last time in
Moorish Castle in Sintra was listed in 16.6.1910 as National Monument being now included in the World Heritage listing as “Cultural Landscape of Sintra” and, therefore covered by the Portuguese Heritage Law. The current building is the result of a romantic renovation carried out in the 19th century. The Moorish Castle Complex is made up of various buildings, gates, fortified walls and its most dominant features, The Tower of Homage. The walls of the old castle enclosed a considerable area, reaching almost to the sea, where even today the Moorish Pier is still visible. The views from its walls and towers are breathtaking. The village of Sintra with its Royal Palace, as well as the Pena National Palace are all visible from the Castle of the Moors.
Originally, the Castle of Sintra was built by the Moors, possibly between the 9th and 10th centuries. Arab chronicles depict the Sintra region as being very rich in cultivated fields. Surrounded by walls and several towers. It u
I had taken many beautiful pictures of Avilion Castle, all compiled into a video as shown above. Enjoy watching it with the beautiful song Can You Feel The Love Tonight. I think this song really goes well with this beautiful castle.
I decide to go into the castle to have a look first before I visit the exterior beauty of the castle. To enter the castle, you need to be dressed in formal dress. The owner of the castle has provided free evening gowns and tuxedos for the women and men respectively. So if you were dressed in shorts or skirts, you do not have to worry at all. You can take their free clothes just outside their castle.
This is the interior of the castle. It shows a luxurious medieval castle with knights and the floor which sparkles! Quite a number of couples were dancing merrily. I was dancing with a friend too.
This picture below shows the castle and its exterior. As you can see, there were waterfall and beautiful gardens just outside it. I cannot wait to wo
Hi everyone! This blog will serve at an interactive venue for Castle Rock Aikido students, prospective students, visitors and guest. It will also serve as a means for Albright Sensei and Shiraki Sensei to share philosophical perspectives about Aikido and martial arts and/or to answer questions posed by visitors to this blog. You are more than welcome to post your own comments, questions, essays, and opinions. Enjoy!Sean
Caerphilly castle is one of the most impressive and great medieval castles of Western Europe, in Great Britain. Construction of the castle commenced in 1272 under the orders of Marcher Lord, Baron Gilbert de Clare. De Clare built the castle to prevent his powerful rival Llewelyn ap Gruffyd from invading the area. Caerphilly castle is sited at a highly strategic location. Built on the orders of a Norman Lord in the 13th Century to keep back the native Welsh , it made large scale use of water for defence and was the first truly concentric castle in Britain.
Throughout the late thirteenth and early fourteenth century, the Castle continued to be the focus of Welsh attacks. In 1316 Llywelyn Bren a noble of Senghenydd, raised an army of ten thousand men and attacked the Castle. The attackers failed to breach its defences, although much of the town of Caerphilly was destroyed. By the mid-fourteenth century relative calm had fallen upon Caerphilly and parts of the Castle were probably abando
I went exploring again at Second Life yesterday. This is Castle Argh, a very big and tall castle. Very high up the sky. I have not seen a huge castle as this before yet in Second Life. It has a long ‘bridge’ or pathway which looks like the great wall of china. I fly up the sky to take a snapshot of the whole castle. I like the close up view of the castle. It is the great architectural designs that I like. The floor, mossy and old dirty looking, make the castle looks really ancient. The windows with stained glasses of knights and other artistic patterns looks great. I cannot help but walk round the castle, to explore all the rooms it has. I had even taken a video of the castle. The interior of the castle has stairs and floors with mosaic arts. They were so nice! This is on the top of the castle. There is a hot bath jacuzzi at one corner and over here, rugs and couch for rest.
Oops, almost forget, there is a casino at the ground floor of the castle. It has two floors
