  • Magma's Talus Selected by NVIDIA as Standard IC Implementation Platform for 45-nm Chips
Magma® Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design software, today announced that NVIDIA Corporation standardized on Magma’s Talus® IC implementation software for design of 45-nanometer (nm) integrated circuits. NVIDIA selected Talus because it offers advanced capabilities for addressing 45-nm design challenges, supporting leading edge 45-nm routing rule and extraction, low-power design and large, high-utilization macro-rich designs. By leveraging Talus’ advanced, integrated capabilities such as a congestion-aware automated macro placer, rapid timing and DRC closure, and sign-off-correlated post-layout optimization, NVIDIA can achieve better time to market and higher productivity.“NVIDIA produces some of the world’s largest designs at advanced process nodes, and the success of these designs is dependent on meeting very tight time-to-market demands,” said David Dumoulin, director of Engineering at NVIDIA. “Because of this, improving our overall design
  • U.S. STOCKS - Blue-chips up on rate cut hope; Nasdaq wobbles
NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks rose on Monday as investors snapped up shares of financial companies and big manufacturers on hopes that the Federal Reserve would keep slashing interest rates to forestall an economic downturn. The Nasdaq momentarily slipped into negative territory, dragged down by a decline in Google Inc and Apple Inc shares. Fed policy-makers are due to announce a rate decision on Wednesday at the end of their two-day meeting, and investors are counting on lowered borrowing costs for businesses and consumers to stimulate economic activity. The Dow Jones industrial average was up 75.44 points, or 0.62 percent, at 12,282.61. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 13.29 points, or 1.00 percent, at 1,343.90. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 7.38 points, or 0.32 percent, at 2,333.58.
  • Cod reggae singer cashes in chips
Ali Campbell has quit UB40 after thirty years. Campbell, it seems, wants to concentrate on a solo career; UB40 is going to continue without him, according to their official statement:"Ali Campbell has taken the decision to focus on his solo career and in doing so, could not give his full commitment to UB40."The other band members of UB40 are naturally disappointed and saddened after being together as a band unit and as good friends and a family unit for almost 30 years.""UB40 will continue to record and perform with the existing seven members."UB40 has never been about any one individual, but more a collective of band members, who have all contributed to create the unique sound that UB40 have become renowned for over the last three decades."This is quite brave, isn't it? UB40's distinctiveness has always been down to Campbell's voice; take that away and you're surely just left with a fairly basic pub reggae band. The sad thing, of course, is that had they split sometime during the firs

  • Goodbye to Chips, Cookies and Candy
Sean has lost 60 pounds. He's 6 feet tall and now weighs 280 and has much more muscle mass than when he weighed 340 eight months ago. He says eating chips, cookies and candy were 90% of his problem. At the age of 27 he was already feeling bad each morning when getting out of bed. His feet would be sore and tight. He's given up the junk food and is exercising regularly (with the help of a SWAT personal trainer) and feels great. See his success story and photo here. The photo shown here is another success story featured on the SWAT Personal Training website.
  • The 15-year-old girl who only eats chips
While most of us were eating our Christmas dinners last week, 15-year-old Faye Campbell was missing out. She has never tasted turkey, gravy or Christmas pudding. Nor has she ever eaten satsumas or mince pies. Instead, for most of her life, Faye has eaten nothing except chips - one bowl a day, with lots of milk to drink. Over the years, her parents, Carolyn, 37, and Mark, 39, have endured despair

  • Steve Nash chips his tooth, is more of a man than I'll ever be
Steve Nash won the MVP twice, and could be up for it a third time this season, but nothing he's done compares to the video of the halftime show during last night's Suns vs Jazz NBA game. His tooth gets chipped, and not only does he do the interview, he improvs some comedy right on the spot. Watch it to see...it's hilarious.6 Zoom(s)
  • Failure Friday: Potato Chips
First off, the most obvious failure I need to point out today is the lack of a post yesterday. One thousand apologies for a hectic day that sidetracked me enough to forego my blog. Shame…SHAME! The failure I wanted to showcase today originated from spite. Spite is pretty bad thing. I would hope you don’t do [...]

  • Eat Those Chips?
One of the most common snack foods for kids is chips. It’s unfortunate however, that chips are not really a healthy option. When "baked" chips came out, I tried them but my son never warmed up to them.Frito Lay has provided an option to unhealthy chips - Natural Doritos, Cheetos and Tostitos. These snacks are available in "natural" form, which means they are made with all-natural ingredients and do not contain hydrogenated oils. Beware of any snack foods that contain hydrogenated oils. Hydrogenated oils contain high levels of trans fat, which is an otherwise normal fatty acid that has been modified by high-heat processing. Trans fats interfere with cellular function, and prevent our bodies from acquiring the essential fatty acids that are so critical for good health.Hydrogenated oils are found in cookies, crackers, baked goods and chips. Once you start reading labels, you’ll be amazed where you will find hydrogenated oils. Knowledge is power!
  • Tip: Don't Eat Potato Chips Quickly
Last night a simple bag of potato chips wrecked me pretty good. Normally they're something I can eat without much of a problem, but I guess I went too quickly because my stomach bloated up like crazy and I got slightly nauseated. It wasn't horrible, but it was enough to keep me from going to sleep and the next thing I knew, it was 3am. It didn't really feel like a panic attack in that I was nervous or flipping out in any way, but the physical symptoms were all there. Just like the old days.Got to bed at 3:30 in the morning and woke up at about 8:45, which is way too late. My day is prepped and I can get out of here once I finish writing this, but I'm going to have to make up the time by just being relentless throughout the day. Sucks. But, anyway, that's all I have. Would love to write more but I have no spare time.Have a great day, everyone.
  • Chips for free
EMI is offering a deal: you give them some information, they give you a new Hot Chip track for free. Of course, you could choose to give EMI a bunch of useless information, and they'd never know. Which might be wise as the privacy statement seems to boil down to "we won't give your name to anyone else, except if we think they could make use of it."

  • Tiger Woods captures virgin FedEx Cup, Team USA clobbers ROW to retain Solheim Cup, sweep uphill chips and how to acheive a winning attitude
Click here to listen.Tiger Woods took home a bevy of accolades yesterday, the culmination of a yearlong effort to embrace the virgin FedEx Cup and confirm his status as Player of the Year.In addition to a $1.25 million purse from his win at the Tour Championship, Tiger also hoisted a beautiful crystal trophy (which will have to be either repaired or replaced as a part of it was damaged at the ceremony). But, the moment which placed the gleam in Tiger's eyes and a wide, Cheshire-cat grin on his face was when he caressed the still "never-been-kissed" FedEx Cup. The virgin trophy is now in the hands of the golfer who deserves it the most. As Tiger Woods recounted, "I think once you experience it, you want to have it again. It's like winning a major championship. It feels so good, you want to get another one." Enough said! We discuss the defense of next year's title in this week's show as well as the inability of PGA Tour golfers to keep up with Woods.Did the knowledge that they were to r
  • Mama Zuma's Revenge - Habanero Potato Chips
Route 11 makes potato chips called Mama Zuma's Revenge. The habanero potato chips are well named since the heat lasts for quite some time after eating them and that makes for some good revenge, but flavor wise, they lack potential. This ones not going in my pantry. However, a few weeks ago we tried some of Trader Joe's own line of potato chips and they were quite good. A blogger from San Francisco has a tasty suggestion for the Sesame & Ginger Potato Chips.

  • Golf Podcast: Woods and Mickelson: PGA Tour royalty? Divot-Rite training aid and stop chunking the chips!
Click here to listen to this week's podcast.Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are two of the best known "celebrity" golfers on the PGA Tour, but are they becoming royalty? Is the PGA Tour controlling the action or are the powers-that-be allowing them too much leniency? This week's question on "How we see it" is:Do Tiger and Phil have a responsibility to both the fans and the PGA Tour to play in more events? After all, in most other sports, you don't get to choose when you play.Sometimes the simplest devices can be the most effective. Divot-Rite has created a golf training aid which is supposed to correct one of the most popular swing faults of the average golfer, namely hitting the ball "fat". This small, plastic swing trainer also develops proper alignment, stance and shot accuracy. Does Divot-Rite work?
