The return of continental play (Copa Libertadores and UEFA Cup) last week threw open a large portion of the Top 25. With Champions League games on the docket for this week, things are about to get even more interesting. But here is where we stand today:1. (1) Inter Milan. The undisputed No. 1 team beat Livorno over the weekend. Now the Champions League resumes with a trip to Anfield tomorrow. Inter only have one loss this season (at Fenerbahce Istanbul, back on Sept. 19). Will Reds make it two? Uh, no. The nerazzuri also play at Sampdoria Sunday.2. (5) Manchester United. Thoroughly destroyed Arsenal Saturday. Yes it was "only" FA Cup play, but Arsene Wenger showed up with his 'A' team. And yes, Arse still leads them by five points in the EPL standings, but Man. U have the better record in head-to-head games. There will be at least one more of these this year, April 12 at Old Trafford, potentially to decide the Premiership. This week, Sir Alex' men travel to Lyon for their UCL Round of
The plot thickened this week as several top teams were put to the test. Most passed by the slimmest of margins, while not impressing (Chelsea, Bayern). One did not even get that far. Read on.1. (1) Inter Milan. Saw off Catania Calcio yesterday, winning 2-0 on second half goals by Esteban Cambiasso and David Suazo. Up next: Livorno Saturday, then the Champions League resumes with a trip to Anfield on Tuesday, Feb. 19. I don't expect Fernando Torres' men to thwart these guys like they did Chelsea, mainly because Zlatan Ibrahimovic presents a problem they (or anybody outside Serie A except for Inter's CL opponents) have faced before. But we're getting ahead of ourselves as that game is not for another week.2. (2) Arsenal. Idle last week. Play Blackburn today, then their FA Cup date with Man. United Saturday. Fun times ahead.3. (4) Real Madrid. Beat up on poor Valladolid yesterday. Play at Real Betis Sunday. Their Champs league date with AS Roma is on tap a week from tomorrow.4. (6) Barcel
First of all, congratulations to the New York Giants, winners of last night's Super Bowl XLII. A great triumph for the city of New York (our first championship since 9/11) and an event that unfortunately had more than indirect effects on the delay of this week's Top 25. But speaking of the real football, there were several changes to the rankings (again) this week. Let's get to it:1. (2) Inter Milan. The sojourn away from first place was a short one for Roberto Mancini's men, who won a huge game at Juventus during the midweek to advance in the Coppa Italia and then beat Empoli at home yesterday. With Roma losing, Inter's Serie A lead is now eight points. They're still unbeaten in Italian competition. Play at Catania Calcio Sunday, then Livorno home a week from Saturday. After that, the Round of 16 Champions League match-up with Liverpool ensues. The first leg is at Anfield on Tuesday, Feb. 19.2. (4) Arsenal. How quickly the tides can turn! Last week's also-rans are this week's big winn
Things just got very interesting in the Top 25, with many top-ranked teams playing down to their competition or worse. Would it be enough to affect major changes? Let's take a look:1. (2) Manchester United. It has come to this. Sir Alex' men become the fifth #1 team of record (the others were, in chronological order Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal and Inter) thanks to a win over a pesky Spurs side yesterday. This development should be no big surprise, as Red Devils have been very impressive lately, winning their last five games by a combined score of 14-1 and have a perfect record on the 2008 calendar. Will this be United's year? I wouldn't bet against it. Up next: Pompey visit Old Trafford Wednesday, followed by a return trip to White Hart Lane (in Premiership play this time) Saturday.2. (1) Inter Milan. It was quite a run for Zlatan and the gang, who had held the top slot since Nov. 7. The nerazurri drop from their perch due to two ties in crucial games (at home to Juventus in the C
Welcome to the 20th edition of the Top 25. Lots of action this week so let's get to it:1. (1) Inter Milan. Dismantled Reggina at midweek, then struggled to beat Parma yesterday, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic converting a penalty in the 88th minute to level matters before following up with the winner in the 92nd. I didn't see the game (was watching American football. Go Giants!) but ESPN Soccernet reports the penalty was controversial. Wouldn't be the first time in Italian soccer. Still, a win is a win is a win (is a win) and I'm not going to dethrone Inter for that (least of all without having seen the game). Travel to Juventus for midweek cup tie next, followed by trip to Udinese Sunday.2. (2) Manchester United. Didn't play well against Reading but still won, 2-0, to maintain their Premiership lead (on goal difference). Play at White Hart Lane Sunday. Spurs have been playing better but I wouldn't expect United to lose that one.3. (4) Arsenal. Beat up on the Fulhamericans (I've been calling
Italy's Serie A returned to action last week, meaning that the Bundesliga is the only major European league (at least the ones that I follow) still on its winter break. The Germans will be back in action soon enough. In the meantime, there was plenty of other stuff that went down. Here's how it affected the rankings:1. (1) Inter Milan. Won at 18th-placed Siena to maintain their unbeaten Serie A record. Up next: a cup tie versus Reggina Thursday followed by Parma at San Siro Sunday. Expect Inter at the same spot next week.2. (4) Manchester United. Thoroughly dismantled Newcastle to take back first place in the Premiership Saturday. Figure their strong form to continue when they visit Reading Saturday.3. (2) Real Madrid. Lost at Mallorca in first leg of Copa del Rey at midweek (but it was only by a 2-1 score that they will be able to make up in the return leg at Bernabeu Wednesday. Still, the margin for error at these very top spots is extremely slim, so they dropped down a spot). Yester
Some more diversity of games than the steady stream of English/Scottish stuff we've had in the past two weeks: Spanish, Portuguese and Greek leagues returned to action with Turkish and French cups getting underway. Mexican teams were even back at it in the Interliga competition. Very few surprises, however, so the impact on the Top 25 was insignificant. But read on anyway.1. (1) Inter Milan. Idle. Back in action Sunday with a trip to 18th-placed Siena. A nice way to work off the Christmas bacon.2. (2) Real Madrid. Beat Alicante in a Copa del Rey match Wednesday and Real Zaragosa in the Primera Division yesterday. Bernd Schuster's team maintain their seven point lead over Barca. Next up: Mallorca Wednesday in another cup tie followed by Levante Sunday.3. (3) Arsenal. Beat West Ham at midweek and Burnley in FA Cup yesterday. Next up: Tottenham in the League Cup and Birmingham City in Saturday Premiership action. Both games are at Emirates. Will Spurs manage to vanquish the Baby Gunners?
When you start a round of golf its worth being aware that you are only allowed to carry a maximum number of 14 clubs. The range of clubs will depend upon your game and the course that you play. Now you have to be able to decide which club to use and when. When trying to decide the length of the shot, you also need to be aware of the hight the ball will travel - this is called as the loft.Usually clubs have a number on the head by which they can be identified. The higher the number, the lesser the distance the club will hit. Each club has a grip made of rubber, a shaft made of steel or graphite and a club head made of steel or alloy parts.Clubs are divided into 3 different types:-* A Wood* The Irons* The PutterTHE WOODThese are named because the original clubheads were made of wood. These days club heads are made of steel or various alloys.* Ladies woods can be from 1 to 15.* Number 1 is called the driver and is used off the tee.* Woods 3,4,5,7 and 9 are fairway woods.* Some shots requir

This is it! The final list of the year! Obviously not that much changed since last week, with English and Scottish Premiership squads and the odd Greek team the only ones playing competitive games this week. There was drama galore in the EPL of course. How did that affect the rankings? Uh, not all that much. But here is your updated version anyway:1. (1) Inter Milan. Idle until Jan. 13, when they play Siena. I reckon they'll be number one until then.2. (2) Real Madrid. Idle last week. Next up: Alicante in a Copa del Rey match Wednesday and Real Zaragosa Sunday.3. (3) Arsenal. After a disappointing scoreless draw at Pompey on Boxing Day, Gunners had an impressive win at Goodison Park Saturday to retake their lead in the Premiership. Next up: Man U. vanquishers West Ham visit Emirates tomorrow and an F.A. Cup tie at Burnley Sunday.4. (4) Manchester United. Beat the crap out of Sunderland on Boxing Day before losing at Upton Park Saturday. Birmingham City visits Old Trafford tomorrow fol

Happy holidays and welcome to the year's penultimate Top 25 List. All is quiet in Latin America, but it was quite a weekend in Europe, with the Real-Barca and Inter-Milan games both taking place today. How did that affect things? Let's see to find out:1. (1) Inter Milan. Beat Reggina in a cup tie and overcame AC Milan in the derby match yesterday. Yes, they were a bit lucky to win that game (hopefully they have time to send Dida a Christmas card?), but these guys are for real. Next up: Siena, Jan. 13 and the return match at Reggina five days after that.2. (2) Real Madrid. Tied Alicante in a cup match at midweek before shocking Barca at Camp Nou. Now seven points clear in La Liga and looking dominant. Next up: The return leg at Alicante (Jan. 2) and Real Zaragosa (Jan. 6).3. (3) Arsenal. Beat Blackburn Rovers in extra time in the League Cup, then overcame Spurs in the North London derby Saturday despite being outplayed. The result of latter match forces a certain individual who predicte
A massive week for club soccer, with the conclusion of FIFA's Club World Cup, the end of the UEFA Champions League group stage and the Big Four showdown in the Premiership. How did it affect things in the Soccer Source Top 25? Read on and you'll find out:1. (1) Inter Milan. The world's undisputed #1 team beat Eindhoven in a meaningless Champions League game, then won at Cagliari yesterday. Up next: Reggina in a cup tie and AC Milan in the derby match Sunday.2. (2) Real Madrid. Beat Osasuna at the Benabeu yesterday and knocked off Lazio in mid-week CL action. Just how good is this team? We're due to find out, with a trip to Camp Nou lurking Sunday. Is that right? We get the Milan derby and the Clasico on the same day?!? Real visit Alicante for a cup tie at midweek first.3. (3) Arsenal. Won their meaningless Champions League game with Steaua Bucharest and topped Chelsea in a cracking match at Emirates yesterday. I'm not convinced this is England's best team and considered having them swa
There is surge in the population of very different breed called netizens, a citizen of net mainly through booming Social Networking sites, which impart different colours to the virtual relationship formed through such sites. It provides a reunion sort of things to people who really value their friendship and want to connect with them with whom they have lost their contact. A very new dimension has just begun to mushroom in social Networking Sites; Hate Clubs are in vogue today, a platform that invites like-minded people to vent out their prejudices. Netizens spend significant time online and it affects both in positive and negative way, if some people find it to discuss various topics many communities devote their time propagating hate and violence. Hate communities at Orkut have zoomed to a significant number, I hate Himesh Reshmaiya, similarly such hate clubs for Shahrukh Khan, Greg Chappel, Ekta Kapoor are making its presence felt among such sites with members amounting to 76,837 fo
I've been writing a lot about travel and stuff, and I'd just like to share that I came across this great site that basically offers everything that I've been looking for in planning our trip. It's called Super Clubs, the world's favorite super inclusive resorts.Super Clubs has recently been awarded as the Resort Parter of the Year 2007 by Vacation.com, the largest travel services marketing organization in the United States and Canada. And that's not the only award Super Clubs has received. They've constantly received awards annually since 1990, including Hotelier of the Year, a constant recipient of the Apple Vacations' Golden Apple Award, Carribean Hotelier of the Year, and a whole lot more awards. The reputation and specialty of Super Clubs actually got me thinking of yet again having our annual year-end vacation to a totally different destination - the Carribean! Since Super Clubs offer a lot of packages for tour plans that have all inclusive resorts, I already pictured ourselves enj
I made some adjustments this week because I noticed certain teams in the list were ahead of ones they trailed in their domestic league standings. While this is due to happen for a number of reasons, I felt it should be adjusted at this time, especially in the Premiership where all "Big Three" teams have done well in the Champions League and with one exception (Chelsea's loss at Old Trafford back on Sept. 23) have not played any decisive matches against each other. As a result, you may see some discrepancies with the way teams moved this week versus other weeks.1. (1) Inter Milan. Another impressive week for the nerrazurri, who won both games by a combined 7-0 score. Saw off Lazio on Wednesday and beat up on FC Turin yesterday. The undisputed number one team in the world has only lost once this season and that was way back on Sept. 19. Travel to Eindhoven for meaningless Champions League game Wednesday followed by another road game at Cagliari Sunday.2. (5) Real Madrid. Won the always d

Lots and lots o' action this week, including top games in Italy and Germany, not to mention all the midweek Champions League and UEFA Cup action. One champion was crowned in Argentina, with a second perhaps to follow later this week. Let's get to it:1. (1) Inter Milan. Beat Fenerbahce in the Champs League Tuesday and won impressively at Fiorentina on the weekend. Zlatan Ibrahimovic had two nifty assists in that one. I think the case could be made that the Swede of Bosniak-Croat descent is the best player in the world right now. But that's another topic for another day. Point is, these guys are good. Host Lazio on Wednesday and FC Turin Sunday.2. (2) Arsenal. Meaningless games are exactly that: meaningless. So I'm not punishing Arse for losing their midweek Champions League game at Sevilla. Besides, Arsene Wenger's boys rebounded nicely in winning at tough Villa Park Saturday and continue to lead the Prem--now by five points, with a game in hand. Play two road games this week (Newcastle
Do you understand the importance of flex in your golf clubs? When most people buy a set of golf clubs they go for the name, the look and sometimes the price. The rich buy the dearest for the status, and the poorer buy the cheapest for the price, with most of us in between. When choosing, you normally find a few clubs in a golf store representative of the set; perhaps a half set and sometimes even a full set of fourteen, with options on how to fill up some of the slots in the fourteen, since a few, such as the putter and driver, are musts. You will pick up an iron and feel the weight and check out the length, but how often do you check the flex?Do you even know what the flex is? All the more experienced golfers do, but even they don't pay too much attention to it unless they are serious competition players. In fact the flex is one of the most important properties of your club. More important than the look that is meaningless, and probably more important than the weight. The flex determin
And we're back. Last week we were faced with a dearth of games resulting in little movement over the week before. This week, most teams only played once (and incidentally, most on the list won) leading to only slight re-shuffling. Expect that to change, with a full slate of Champions League, UEFA Cup and domestic league action in Europe this week. But more on that later. Let's first take a look at the rankings:1. (1) Inter Milan. Beat Atalante Bergamo, 2-1. Next up: Fenerbahce in the Champs League Tuesday followed by a trip to Florence for Sunday's Serie A game.2. (2) Arsenal. Beat Wigan thanks to a late push. Next up: at Seville in Tuesday Champions League action, followed by a trip to Birmingham and Aston Villa on Saturday.3. (5) FC Porto. Had no problems with Vitoria Setubal in the Superliga yesterday. But now things get very interesting: Play at Anfield Wednesday with Liverpool facing a must-win, followed by a trip to Benfica Saturday. Both Benfica and Porto are unbeaten in the Por
With all the drama in UEFA and CONMEBOL qualifying, not to mention in the MLS Cup, it would have been easy to forget about this list this week. I didn't though. There was enough action to put together the rankings, though as might be expected the top spots didn't change much.1. (1) Inter Milan. Idle. Next game is Saturday at Atalanta.2. (3) Arsenal. Move back into second thanks to having actually played a game last week, where they beat Reading handily, 3-1. Next: Wigan at Emirates on Saturday. Nice way to ease back into Premiership action...3.(2) Manchester United. Idle. Play at Bolton next on Saturday.4. (4) Real Madrid. Idle. Next up: Murcia, Sunday.5. (5) FC Porto. Idle. Host fifth-placed Vitoria Setubal in the Superliga Sunday.6. (6) Chelsea. Idle. Next up: At Derby on Saturday. That should be tough (not). The only question is if they manage to score 10 or more goals.7. (7) Villareal. One of very few European teams to actually play last week, Villareal beat Las Palmas in Copa del
Lots of action last week, as the Champions League, UEFA Cup and Copa Sudamericana all held full slates of games. There were several upsets, especially in Saturday's domestic action. How did that affect things? Let's take a look:1. (1) Inter Milan. Retained the top spot by virtue of their defeat of CSKA Moscow in midweek Champions League action. Their weekend Serie A clash with Lazio was cancelled due to the tragic death of a fan. This team is one of very few unbeaten teams left. Up after the internationals break: Atalanta, on Nov. 24. Not sure when the Lazio game will be replayed.2.(3) Manchester United. Beat up on Dynamo Kiev and had no problem with Blackburn, both at home. Two games, two victories. Took over first place in the Premiership, though Arsenal has a game in hand. Next game Nov. 24 at Bolton.3. (2) Arsenal. A disappointing scoreless draw at Slavia Prague was still enough to see them through to the round of 16 in the Champions League. As that was their only game, they lose a
And we're back. A crazy week with lots of action, including games where teams from last week's Top 25 faced off and, more often than not, tied. But not all ties are equal, as we shall see:1. (2) Inter Milan. Their tie at Juventus was the right outcome from the balance of play, according to ESPNsoccernet.com's report of that top-of-the-table clash in Serie A. A tie that moved them to the top spot in the rankings, where they displaced Arsenal. This despite the fact that both teams won and drew twice this week? Yes. Arsenal was playing at home and came closer to losing their game to Man U. (trailing twice) than Inter came to losing theirs at Stadio Olimpico. And Juventus hadn't given up a goal at home since Sept. 16. The Nerazurri also beat Genoa 4-1 at midweek, who might not be an elite squad but are at least in the top flight, unlike Sheffield Wednesday, whom Arsenal beat in their midweek game. Oh yeah, I was also sick of staring at Arsenal in the top spot and my friends at NYSpurs were

With the Champions League and UEFA Cup taking a breather this week, domestic FAs have leapt into the void and scheduled a full slate of midweek games. A lot of it is cup competition but several big leagues--chief among them Serie A and La Liga--are on as well, with the Roma derby one major highlight. Not a bad day to call in sick if you're in the Americas or take a night in front of the telly if you're in Europe. Let's see what's on tap for this week's top 25 (TV listings for U.S. audience courtesy of soccerTV.com):1. Arsenal. Face Sheffield in Carling Cup. 3:30pm Eastern, Setanta Sports USA & Setanta Broadband.2. Inter Milan. At Genoa in Serie A. No live TV, but taped showing at 5:30pm Eastern, Fox Soccer Channel, Fox Sports en Espanol.3. Manchester United.4. Bayern Munich. Home to Borussia Mönchengladbach in German cup tie.5. Real Madrid. At #22 Valencia. 4pm Eastern, GolTV.6. Barcelona.7. Chelsea. Home versus Leicester City in Carling Cup.8. FC Porto. Idle but won domestic leag
You can't ignore the role of the club when playing golf. Here are some useful tips on golf clubs. When you do hit a shot to the right or left, you may not want it to go as far as if you hit it straight. This is a big selling point for these clubs. But think about it. Ninety percent of the time if you hit the ball left or right of the green you are better off being short than pin high or long right or left. Not to mention, how many greens have slopes on the side that you really don't want to hit on the fly. A green will hold a pin high shot, a slope, or even just off the green has a tendency to bounce much harder, and send your shot further into trouble. So when you miss a shot, and I never noticed these clubs improve any ones direction, (in fact if you hit the ball a bit on the toe of your blades they have a tendency to draw the ball back in), you're almost always in a better position for par if you end up short or near pin high than you are long and further away from the green, usually
Here we go, folks. The list you've all been waiting for. This past week saw a full slate of club action, both domestic and continental. There were several upsets, but mostly this was about the planet's top teams staking their claims. Meanwhile, some of the pretenders (you know who you are, Man. City) were exposed. In other words: things are starting to take shape. The cream is rising to the top:1. (1) Arsenal. What kind of a Spurs fan am I to put the Arse first for the second week in a row?!? This makes them the first repeat #1 since I started the list. And the Gunners didn't even win this weekend! True, but neither did last week's #2, Inter. In fact the Milan side played Palermo to a scoreless tie. Last week's #3, Bayern Munich, did the same, at Dortmund. I couldn't reward that. Besides, Arsene Wenger's men were faced with a formidable task, playing at Anfield in a clash of the Premiership's last two unbeaten teams. A great game that probably could have gone either way, but no arguing
With Barcelona going down to Villareal Saturday, the top spot was up for grabs. As much as it pained me to do this as a Spurs fan, I had to give the Arse (last week's second-ranked team) their due. Arsene Wenger's men are unbeaten in all competitions this year, with their sole blemish a 1-1 draw at Blackburn way back on Aug. 17. Fortunately for Spurs fans (who haven't had much to celebrate this year) Arsenal have a tough schedule coming up. Here's this week's list (for a chronology of past weeks' go here):1. (2) Arsenal. Okay, so the team they beat this week (Bolton) are now dead last in the Premiership. Still, this team is deserving of top dog status. For now. Things could look completely different in a week's time. They face Slavia Prague at Emirates in the Champions League Tuesday and then travel to Anfield over the weekend. The first game shouldn't present much of a problem. The second is a different story. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but a week after that they host Man U. Stay
The G-14 is set to completely revamp itself and is inviting around 50 clubs from 23 countries to join the new organization, reports Soccerex Business News. I'm not entirely sure who Soccerex is or what they do, but they quote G-14 communications manager Derek McGlynn saying "“the new organisation will have the same concept as the previous body - to protect the rights of its member clubs.” The 18 current members of the G-14 are on the invites list. So are AS Roma, Werder Bremen, AS Monaco and Sevilla. Not sure who the others are but the invitations are apparently based on the clubs' performance over the last five years.. I tried to email the organization from their Web site, but those emails bounced. But they're hoping to have a meeting with the invitees by year-end.Twenty-three countries? Fifty clubs? The organization's goals are anything if not ambitious. One thing's for sure though: it's not just a European group anymore. Suddenly, Soccer Source's listing of the world's Top 25 cl
With European clubs on hiatus this week, I considered skipping this edition of the Top 25 altogether. Then I realized that would kind of defeat the purpose of the exercise, which is to have something comparable to the weekly U.S. college football rankings. As you know if you’re in the U.S. and follow college football (that’s American football), the rankings are released every week regardless of whether a few teams are idle. For us, it just so happens that “a few teams” correspond to every one of last week’s top 16 (to see those rankings go here). But who’s to say national team play couldn’t affect these listings? After all, it's many of the same players and their performance can cast their club’s record in a different light. Especially if they got injured and are going to miss time with their club. Besides, Latin American and Mexican teams were active and could (and in one case did) move up. Read on.1. (1) Barcelona. Idle.2. (2) Arsenal. Idle.3. (3) Bayern Munich. Idle.

To reiterate, this is basically a snapshot of the clubs' current form--not a legacy ranking, not a weighting of the clubs' historic successes. Only the current season's records are taken into account. Quality of competition is a factor. To see last week's rankings go here.1. (4) Barcelona. On fire. Scored impressive wins at VfB Stuttgart and against Atletico Madrid, without giving up a goal in the process. 2. (3) Arsenal. Moved to the top the Premier League, while remaining unbeaten in all competitions. The two goals conceded versus Sunderland are a slight blemish, but it’s hard to argue with their current form. 3. (2) Bayern Munich. Didn’t give up a goal in a perfect week, but neither team (Benenses and Nurnberg) quite qualifies as “quality competition”. Not being in the Champions League will undoubtedly hurt this team’s ranking as the season wears on. Too bad, because they look really sharp. 4. (5) Inter Milan. Made quick work of #13 PSV Eindhoven in Champions Lea
I see this post has attracted a lot of attention as well as its share of criticism (all of it fair, as far as I can tell. Part of the purpose of this exercise was to see where exactly it would fall short, to gauge if it could be rescued or if it was instead doomed to collapse under its own weight). BBC Sport's 606 forum picked up on it and based on some of those comments, I find it necessary to offer the following clarifications:First of all, this is not meant to rank the 25 best clubs in the history of the sport. The only history I am concerned with is this season's and how the club has performed domestically and internationally in that time span.It is meant to mimick, at least in part, the top 25 rankings of college football (American football) teams that are released every week. There too, different teams from different leagues, each with its own particular qualities and strengths and styles of play, are matched against each other. Many of the teams never play each other (because th
About five decades ago, an engineer named Karsten Solheim was playing golf. He was not very satisfied with his putting performance, so he tried creating a new putter. With his engineering background, he was soon able to put together a new putter that he found suitable. He tried it out on the ball, and the putt was perfect. As he hit the ball, the putter made a sound. Solheim did not know it yet, but he had just invented the great Ping golf club.Solheim began using his new putter in public, and people encouraged him to sell Ping golf clubs to other players. The engineer soon became busy creating more and more Ping golf clubs to satisfy the demand. As the orders poured in, his shop became too small and he moved to Phoenix with his family. This is where he established a much larger shop for Ping golf clubs.During this time, the Ping golf clubs have already become quite popular in golf circles everywhere.
