To put it quite simply, the movie did not have an ending. The audience sat there in stunned silence as the movie simply ended. I did not hear a single positive comment about the film as we left the theater. We actually felt "ripped-off" as we left the theater. I was hoping that there would be an ending that would explain what happened in the previous, laborious 1 hour and 45 minutes. It was nothing more than boring confusion. While the producers are banking on the fact that people will flock to see the sequel, I don't see this as a likely possibility. People have to like the first movie before they will see a sequel. If the sequel has already been shot, I would suggest that it will go direct to DVD and bypass the theaters. It is a mysterious story, based on an oppressing 'magestirium', magic dust(atoms), and disappearing children. The magestirium represents the catholic church, who are furious at the movie. They lie, distort science, and steal your soul. The parallels to fantasy and reality are really awesome.The special effects in this movie are outstanding and breathtaking, really should be seen on the big screen. It's filming now and is due out this time next year.1. I'm incredibly excited.2. But also dismayed as the rumor is that the movie execs are cutting the Spoiler anti-religious content out of the movie to pander to the family values crowd. the corruption of the church is (for me) perhaps the defining theme of the books. 3. Also dismaying is their choice of director: Chris Weitz. He hasn't really made a name for himself yet, so maybe he has this amazing visionary talent the world hasn't seen. A terrible book series was written with one purpose: to corrupt your children and remove any religion from them. The series is called His Dark Materials and was written by noted atheist Phillip Pullman. And the first book of the series is called The Golden Compass (or Northern Lights outside of the US) and has been made into a feature film starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, and other - it is big budget and will be advertised heavily to kids.
