  • Synchronica Announces Mobile Backup 1.2 with Major Enhancements for Consumer Market
Synchronica plc, an international provider of mobile email and synchronization solutions, will announce Mobile Backup 1.2 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with major feature enhancements to drive up consumer adoption rates and revenue and drive down support costs.Consumers are increasingly using their mobile phones as the sole repository for social and business information. For many, the loss of a handset itself is much less traumatic than the loss of the precious contact information, a social network, that it held. For operators, this means a loss of revenue because users will initiate far fewer phone calls and send far fewer text messages during the several months it takes to restore that social network to a new phone. By using Mobile Backup from Synchronica, operators and service providers can prevent loss of ARPU and add value to their services by offering insurance for their subscribers' personal information. If the customer loses or upgrades a phone, the service painles

  • Consumer vs customer
NOTE: Updated 18 Nov, 2007 after consultation with my the marketing expert, my wife.Last week, I was in charge of this undergraduate class and I suddenly realised that a number of the students were using the words 'consumer' and 'customer' interchangeably. Guess this is true for a lot of people on the street. However, I have on some occasions come across some academics making the same mistake at academic conferences. As used in marketing terminology, there is a difference between the two concepts. The term 'Customer' refers to individuals or households that purchase goods and services generated within the economy. On the other hand, a 'Consumer' is someone who uses the products or services. At a glance, there doesn't seems to be any difference but if you examine closely, there is. For example, A mother who does the shopping for the family in a supermarket is a customer. She and the rest of the family sit down at the dining table to eat the food she has bought and they are all consumers

Just when you finished wiping drool off your chin from the introduction of Canon’s two new uber pro-style EOS Mark III cameras, the photography giant slips in to sate your DSLR technojones with its Mark III understudy, the 10.1-megapixel EOS 40D. Sporting a substantial array of new useful hardware and software advances, the 40D eclipses the performance of its 30D predecessor and propels it even closer to its loftier brethren. What’s so great about this new pro-sumer shooter? Well, the list of changes and improvements on the 40D is actually pretty long, so let’s keep it to the stuff that’ll really rock your picture making. First, the 9-point focusing system is quicker and more accurate. It shoots six frames per second and, because it’s packing the tech trickle down pro line Digic III processor, the image buffering has more than doubled. Images are moved to the memory card faster and in more bit depth than its older 30D bro. There's been lots of hubbub about the “see what the

At a press event held this week in Barcelona, Spain, Kodak outlined its future plans, admitting that it had no current intentions to enter the digital SLR market. Instead the company will focus its efforts on the general consumer and attempt to strengthen its position as the 3rd biggest manufacturer worldwide for digital still cameras. The new CMOS sensor that was launched back in July on the entry-level C513 camera was heralded as a “huge breakthrough” for Kodak by John O’Grady, the MD of Europe, strongly hinting that future models will employ the same technology.Kodak also backed-up its claims of 50% cheaper inkjet printing with a new independent report from QualityLogic that verifies the cost savings. The report concluded that prints made on Kodak’s 5500 and 5300 all-in-one printers were up to 3 times less expensive than the industry average, across three different categories of printing. For black prints, Kodak’s prints costs 0.23 Euros per page, against 0.6 Euros average

  • Does Disclosure Affect Consumer Behavior?
A new study funded by The American Bankruptcy Institute and The Ford Foundation found that disclosure of credit card interest rates could have an opposite effect than intended. "For many shoppers knowledge of interest rates and mounting debt was so depressing that it spurs them to binge to alleviate the gloom" -WSJ This MorningThe study found that emotion has a much greater effect on spending behaviors than awareness of interest rates. 1 in 5 people in the study stated they tended to shop to end a bad mood. One explanation was that most consumers don't understand how moods influence their spending behavior. The new credit card disclosure laws are based on the assumption that when consumers have knowledge of the actual rates they will act rationally, but this is a flawed assumption. Anyone who has studied consumer behavior knows that emotion often dominates logic, so awareness of credit rates alone will not be effective in preventing overspending.Story from the WSJ This Morning Podcast
