Intel is rolling out its first dual-core Celeron this month. The chip is known as the Celeron E1200, and it runs at 1.6GHz with 512KB of unified L2 cache and an 800MHz front-side bus. Those specifications are definitely not bad for a Celeron, but according to DigiTimes, Intel has an even faster model in store for the second quarter of this year.DigiTimes says Intel plans to launch a dual-core Celeron E1400 clocked at a speedy 2GHz in Q2. Like its predecessor, the new chip will pack 512KB of L2 cache and feature an 800MHz FSB. AMD has recently adjusted its triple-core CPU model numbers and launch dates, according to sources at motherboard makers.AMD will launch two B2 stepping triple-core CPUs, Phenom 8600 and 8400 in March of next year, while in the second quarter, the company will launch three more models, Phenom 8700, 8650 and 8450.The Phenom 8400 and 8600 will feature core frequencies of 2.1GHz and 2.3GHz, respectively, while the Phenom 8700 will clock at 2.4GHz. Phenom 8650 and 8450 will be based on B3 stepping cores, and will have frequencies of 2.3GHz and 2.1GHz, respectively. Since the Extreme Edition models have always come in at just under $1,470, the energy efficient 45 nm technology will remain out of reach for most users. In other words, for now there will be no revolution in the mass market. As we were gearing up to cover the launch of AMD's highly anticipated Phenom quad-core processor, we received an email with the following information (our paraphrase). Intel is planning to unveil a new 45 nm processor with the designation Core 2 Extreme QX9770. This new part will become available in the first quarter of 2008. Recently I acquired a single core, Intel Mac Mini here at work so I could muck about with OSX. To celebrate my find (and the 24″ widescreen monitor that came with it) I present to you three OSX easter eggs, all done through the magic of the Terminal.
Here’s how to get to the terminal in OSX. Go to your Finder, then Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.
Once there, you can try one of these three easter eggs out.
1. Lord of The Ring - Terminal edition. In your terminal session, type the following:
LOTR /usr/share/calendar/calendar.history
2. Good and Bad singing. In your terminal session, type the following:
say -v Good
