  • STUDENTS AGAINST CORRUPTION & KICKBACKS : SACK
Dr. Malay ChaudhuriFounder - Director, IIPM & Author of the Best Seller ‘The Great Indian Dream217 years ago, in 1789, French Revolutionaries revolted against injustice of feudalism and called for Liberty, Fraternity & Equality. This resulted in a kind of socio-economic equality in Europe, which prevails till date. As an example, if engineers are paid USD 45,000 USD 60,000 per month, workers, even sweepers, are also paid around USD 15,000 USD 20,000 per month; all of them enjoy life of social dignity and live without any discrimination and exercise their democratic rights backed by universal literacy and upheld by truly democratic parties which practice inner-party democracy. The difference in income is thus in a ratio of 3:1. This is also what it should be in an ideal society (see Appendix on Theory of Production of Skills by means of skills in The Great Indian Dream, by Malay Chaudhuri and Arindam Chaudhuri). This is not so in India. Here, graduates from IIMs and IITs are

  • Corruption, the World's Big C: Cases, Causes, Consquences, Cures
Author: Ian SeniorPaperback: 210 pagesPublisher: Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) (12 Jun 2006)Language: EnglishISBN: 0255365713There is general agreement that the world would be a better place without corruption, but there is less general understanding of precisely what constitutes corruption. In this book, Ian Senior carefully defines corruption and finds that it is all too prevalent, not just in developing countries, but also within the institutions of governments within the EU. The book analyses the causes and consequences of corruption. There are many social and moral problems created by corruption, but from an economic perspective it has to be regarded as a serious impediment to the proper functioning of a market economy. It also has the effect of redistributing wealth away from the poor towards the better-off and towards employees of government. Ian Senior proposes a zero tolerance approach to rooting out corruption. In particular, we should not give aid
  • The Corruption of Power: Our Independence Was a Response
I have to say that I’m not in much of a July 4th kind of mood this morning. Usually, this is the day each year when I enjoy waking up early and listening to a recitation of the Declaration of Independence that National Public Radio so ably produces annually. Hearing the words by which our founding fathers declared themselves separate and free from the tyranny of the British King George III tends to root a person in the revolutionary democratic idea that formed this nation. Unfortunately, it’s hard to see that idea much in evidence today in America. People are especially demoralized now, by seeing that just before the holiday, the President chose to cover his Administration’s backside by commuting the jail sentence of Vice President Cheney’s right–hand man— before he had to think of either serving his sentence or turning state’s evidence on his former employer. Demoralization is an important tool in the arsenal this Administration employs to retain power in the face o

MURTHA CORRUPTIONJohnstown, Pennsylvania's "Showcase for Commerce" started in 1991 as a small trade show for area businesses, but since then it has grown into one of the U.S. defense industry's most important events of the year. Many big names are represented - Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin all have booths within a few yards of each other - but the star of the show is John P. Murtha, Johnstown's U.S. congressman, who attends every year and visits every exhibit booth. An entourage follows Murtha around the crowded arena, including a photographer, several senior staff members, and one assistant whose sole job appears to be gathering promotional materials and taking copious notes. At each booth, powerful defense-industry executives greet him with smiles and handshakes, eager to show him their latest prototypes and proposals. The showcase is symbolic of Johnstown's transformation from a hard-hit former steel town into, as one contractor who attended this year's showca
