Curious

  • Curious George
One day curious George saw a weird object. Oh, and I'm not talking about that monkey that always goes around poking crud that isn't his. I'm talking about George Bush. Which one? You decide. Yep! This is an interactive story. Kinda. So Mr. Bush walked over to the object and poked it. Yes, he acts like a monkey. Nothing happened. Then Bush saw an ON switch."I wonder what this does?" he thought. He flicked the switch on. Nothing happened again.Rejected, he slowly turned and plodded away. Suddenly...ZAAAAAP!!!No more war in Iraq! The moral of this story? I have no clue. Feel free to make one up for yourself!Perhaps it could be "Chocolate cake is good for your arteries" or "A hammer in the face will hurt". I'm glad to have enlightened you!
  • Curious job listing found on SCEI career website - SendMeRSS
Curious job listing found on SCEI career websiteFiled under: News We have been informed that a job listing has been recently added to the Sony Computer Entertainment International careers website. The listing calls for a "PlayStation 3 compatibility feature engineer" with a job role that would require the applicant to "implement and improve an emulator on the PlayStation 3 and next gen systems. Target systems:PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP".It is our responsibility to point out that this could simply be a Research & Development position for internal testing or for improving compatibility in older PS3s, to improve the number of titles which work with emulated backwards compatibility. With those more sensible ideas out of the way, we can move onto the fun speculation. The juiciest possibility being full backwards compatibility on 40GB PS3s. Not only that, but the inclusion of the PSP in the list of systems lends us to suspect that PSP emulation on the PS3 could be a possibility at some poin
  • Are You curious?
As a child, you were naturally inquisitive. You might’ve shaken your Christmas presents or probed an electric socket with a barrette. As you entered adolescence, maybe you sampled chewing tobacco, tried on the undergarments of an opposite-gendered parent, or ran a gauntlet of bicycle chains so the Crips would embrace you. As you entered adulthood, however, your wide eyes began to narrow. New information no longer seemed to matter as much, and the world out there could safely be ignored, or at most TiVoed and skimmed when routine allowed.Take a test and find out!

  • Some Curious Things
Long-time readers of The Cincinnati Beacon will know that I have been concerned for some time that there may a U.S. or Israeli strike against Iran. There are three items which I want to mention that strike me as curious, maybe even worrisome.  None or even all of them together necessarily mean an attack is imminent, but they are noteworthy.
  • The curious Top Shop question
Beth Ditto was a guest in last night's Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. There was much of the "you ate a squirrel" type of stuff (indeed, that's the official clip on YouTube) and what is presumably the first mention of Ladyfest on prime-time BBC1.But there was one very odd exchange.Ross asked Ditto if she'd consider designing a fashion range for Top Shop - specifically Top Shop - to which Ditto replied "yes, but...", stipulating that they'd have to make ranges large enough to fit her.Obviously, Ditto knows that she's told the press more than once that she's turned Top Shop down and, presumably, while Ross' research team were digging up the squirrel story, they'd have come across this. And even if they hadn't, wouldn't it be slightly strange for Ross to have plucked Top Shop out of all the high street brands from thin air?And even if he had, why did Beth not mention that she'd already turned them down? It's all somewhat curious.
  • A Curious Investment Opportunity

Good idea in theory.  The execution is sorely lacking, however. First problem in researching the [...]
  • Figments of Reality: The Evolution of the Curious Mind
Author: Ian Stewart, Jack CohenPaperback: 339 pagesPublisher: Cambridge University Press (July 1997)Language: EnglishISBN: 0521571553(R)In Figments of Reality, mathematician Ian Stewart and biologist Jack Cohen's thesis (or schtick) is that human minds are produced by complicity between human brains and culture. In their earlier book The Collapse of Chaos, Stewart and Cohen used the power of Humpty Dumpty to redefine complicity to mean properties that emerge from the mutual interaction of complex systems. "Our minds, our societies, our cultures, and our global multiculture, are all evolving within a reality that we mould in images of our own creation. We are a figment of reality--but reality is increasingly a figment of us." Reality is not the only figment in the book. Stewart and Cohen use a group of eight "weird alien beings from the planet Zarathustra, resembling fluffy yellow ostriches but with much stranger habits" as a sounding board, as comedy relief, and
  • Learning from Curious George
Remember Curious George, the curious little monkey? When I was much younger I read about Curious George in books from our local library - nowadays Curious George has his own TV show!Enough of the trip down memory lane! I was reading an interview with Jim Collins today. You most probably know Jim as the author of the fantastically successful book Good To Great. He is credited with the following quote :Be like Curious George, start with a question and look under the yellow hat to find what's there. It is said that as Jim Collins began research into Level 5 Leadership, he assembled a team of young researchers which he called the "Chimps". They were given this name as chimps are unruly, irreverent, energetic, creative and, most of all, inquisitive. The team began pasting pictures of Curious George all over the board room as a reminder to keep asking questions and to keep open minds. Altogether, 21 Chimps worked on the job, usually five per year, performing such tasks as analyzing stock-pr
