  • Weekly Wine Web Wrap-up - In-Flight Dining Edition
Welcome to the 2nd edition of the Weekly Wine Web Wrap-up, where Dude highlights the wine news stories of the past week (complete with snide Dude commentary, of course!).Cover Globally, Vinify LocallyThe highest profile wine news coverage of the week is likely this article in U.S.A. Today, which details the growing trend of 'micro-brew' wineries in urban areas that source their grapes and/or juice from rural vineyards. A handful of these wineries and their winemakers in NY and the midwest are featured by name (thus ensuring that their websites crash and their ISP demand additional hosting charges for their traffic overages)."Pardon me, old chap, but can I have my $36,000 back?"The UK Press Association reported this week of a Zafferano restaurant customer (in London) who returned a bottle of the legendary 1961 Ch. Petrus that cost the bargain price of £18,000 (about $36K USD), under the complaint that it might have been a fake. The restaurant told him that the wine was off-tasting an

  • Dining out in Beijing
It must naturally follow that a country as diverse in ethnicity, geography and climate as China, would have an equally diverse cuisine. I'm no expert, but it seems that there are about as many types of cuisine as there are subcultures. Among the most popular are Cantonese - which is the most widely known and loved for it's dimsum and stir-frys; Sichuan and Hunan - loved by those who like it hot,

  • Fresh Dining with Ricki Lake…at least for now.
Ricki Lake is famous for yo yo dieting. She’s even went to extreme diets where she states she wasn’t eating and always exercising which would cause her to faint. Hmmm…too weak to eat, now that’s trendy. But now weighing in at 123 lbs, she lost over half her body weight from her heaviest of 250 [...]
  • Fresh Dining
Fresh Direct has started a new section called Fresh Dining. It is a collection of portable meals that can be microwaved in under 4 minutes. The newest line is Presto Italiano, created by Chef Tina Bourbeau. We tried 2 flavors, the Parmesan Meatballs with Mezzi Rigatoni and Basil and the Shrimp Fettuccine with Mint, Peas, and Berkshire Bacon.I enjoyed the meatball meal more. The meatballs were tender and the sauce had a good flavor. The Shrimp meal was way too greasy and the bacon overpowered the rest of the pasta. However, the fetuccini was cooked perfectly and the rigatoni was a bit too soft.Overall, the Presto Italiano meals were leaps and bounds better than the standard microwave dinner. They look just like real food and taste like freshly made food. The catch is that they are also leaps and bounds more expensive. At $8.99 each, the portion size is not large enough for me personally (maybe lunch but not dinner), yet the calorie and fat content is disproportionately high. They do ha

  • Red Lobster is the Walmart of Dining Out
hh, lazy Sundays...Okay, so since a friend of mine wanted to be one of the last to see Evan Almighty (that's still in theaters? haha), I reluctantly agreed, and we decided to "dine" at a Red Lobster beforehand. Of course it was packed since it's Sunday and you get the combination of the usual random people and then those who just left church...like a Walmart on Sunday it was crowded and chaotic. At least the food was decent enough after they tried to fill us up on salad and those cheese biscuits...I had grilled rainbow trout and mashed potatoes...apparently the key to all of the recipes in there is white wine - it's in everything from the lemon butter sauce on my dinner to even the biscuits...here is a basic recipe for those cheesy biscuits, I was shocked (Recipezaar.com)!You'd probably be better off making these and pulling the grill out for your seafood than waiting an hour (in a cold and dark establishment) after sitting down...you can skip people staring at each other chewing
  • The Dog in the Dining Room.
The image on the right could easily be an artwork all on its own that perhaps says something about modern art that isn't too flattering. It certainly appeals to my sense of humor on some level. A black dog spraying a wall with black paint. It could also be a statement about depression taking the idea of 'The Black Dog' literally and as a symbol for a state of being. What it might say about depression I'm not exactly sure but like all art that would be open to interpretation.Getting back to the bigger picture this photo isn't of a single artwork. It is a detail photo of a much larger artwork by artist Richard Jackson, currently on display at the Galerie GP and N Vallois in Paris. Be sure to click on the links below and take a closer look at what surely is a fascinating artwork to walk around in person. The artwork is called The Dining Room, and is pictured on the right. Along side it and forming an additional part of the sculpture/installation is The Maid's Room, which is equally gross in

    7. Diet platters come with complimentary cheesy fries. 6. The word “Trough” appears in its title. 5. That guy from “Super-size Me” is there with a camera crew. 4. The maitre’d is wearing an “I brake for Krispy Kreme” t-shirt. 3. No Diet Pulpit staff members would ever eat there.(OK, OK that was pretty gratuitous…) 2. You have to explain to your waiter what a salad is. And the Number One way to know your restaurant is not a healthy dining choice - 1. Four words - All you can eat! • Dining Out Review: Granville's
Dining out at Granville's Last night, My Husband and I joined friends at Granville's on Rutledge Avenue just outside Wagener Terrace.  While we waited at the bar and perused the wine list, the staff recommended dishes and drinks from the varried menu.  I decided on a Chinin Blanc while Whit enjoyed a Victory Golden Monkey (high gravity beer). We dined outside and other than the flies (ceiling fans are needed on the patio) the evening was quite lovely.  Both couples chose a variety of small plates, appetizers and salads to share.  The Asian braised Short Ribs were the crowd favorite and suggested by the entire staff.  Slow cooked, falling off the bone, smothered in an amazing sauce and just enough for 2.  Next time I'm sure we will split the dinner portion. The Mussels were also great.  The sauce was a red curry, coconut milk combo with just enough spice.  We also enjoyed a Maple Leaf Duck Breast over greens and still had room for des
