As "he who thinks he is the boss of me" is back in the States on a whirlwind shopping expedition, I have been taking the opportunity to spend time with friends and divert from my normal daily routine. Tonite, the kids were all meeting at Papalote to watch the lunar eclipse so, with an evening to myself (joy) I decided to go out. That's right....pry my fingers from the keyboard and actually go OUT OF THE HOUSE to dinner with friends John and Libby of In the Roo. We decided on El Angus Grill: "El" - to let you know that it's Mexican, as Libby was quick to point out, "Angus" - undoubtedly, to appeal to Americans, fearful of ingesting foreign, and therefore far less superior and certainly dangerous, meat products. (despite the fact that true Angus Cows are from Scotland....but I digress) The restaurant, located on the corner of calle 26 and Avenida 10 was, just a few short months ago, someone's residence. In planning a romantic dinner for your significant other, there are several factors to consider. First and foremost, consider what your mate's tastes are. I know Jessica is not crazy for too sweet, and she relishes the acidic. I also know my woman loves lighter foods. When planning your meal, don't forget that you need to eat too, so balance the selections with what you like. Second, consider how your partner likes to eat. Jessica really likes to avoid waste and particularly seems to like fusion dishes inspired from classical cuisines. She also wants her meals to be balanced with veggie, protein, and grains. And third, come up with a consistent theme in both taste and appearance. All three of these factors helped me dream up my Valentine's Day menu for Jessica.Appetizer: Blackstick, Pork, & Pear in EndiveEven 1/4" dice of Forelle Pear and cooked, left-over pork tenderloin combined with English Blackstick, with just a touch of salt and black pepper. The word “bride” is an Old English Word for cook.
Just remember ladies, most wedding traditions came about before women’s lib. So feel free to be a non-traditional bride. Throw white out the window, have a man-of-honor, get married underwater. What matters most is that you [...]
Everything my mom makes is always amazing. So many people have begged my mom to open a restaurant but she never will. It remains a special treat for loved ones only. This year, she decided on some non-traditional dishes since we'll be having a big banquet style meal tonight as well.First, Fried Butterfish with Pickled RadishesThis cold dish of Surf Clam and Celery is light and refreshing. The hint of sesame oil is a nice accent. We saw this innovative dish last time we went to New Yeah Shanghai and my mom has a knack for taking restaurant creations and improving them. These Pork and Sticky Rice Wrapped in Bamboo Leaves looked better and tasted better.Yum, ox tail stewed in a rich tomato sauce. The picture is a bit smoky since I took the picture right as my mom plated it.These Fried Shrimp Balls were a hit. The coating is clever little cubes of bread making a light and crunchy outside. My mom makes an awesome Fish Head Soup. She uses a type of tofu, translated as frozen tofu. The process

Former US President Bill Clinton’s security detail played havoc on kitchen staff’s nerves when he arrived at Jim Brown’s Amer-I-can dinner at Canal restaurant in Arizona. The former US Prez charmed throngs of onlookers inside and outside the restaurant when he turned up at the restaurant after a speaking engagement. However according to the New York Post, the chefs at the eatery were none to please with his security detail. As for why they were not to happy with all those Secret Service agents, well it seems that that’s because they swarmed the kitchen and made the chefs extremely nervous with their hovering as Clinton’s dinner was being prepared. They are said to have served up steak, shrimp and Caesar salad to Clinton and the rest of the guests. (ANI)

Pork Loin with Apple and Cranberry stuffing Ingredients: 1 boneless pork loin (about 6 pounds)Sea salt and freshly ground pepper2 cup seasoned croutons1 cup chicken stock1 1/2 cup peeled, chopped green apples1/3 cup dried cranberries 3 Tbs cup chopped walnuts, toasted1/4 cup finely chopped sweet onions2 Tbsp Cranberry juice2 Tbsp Honey1 Preheat oven to 325°F.2 Rinse the pork and pat it dry. You will be doing a "double-butterfly or Pin Wheel" on the pork roast. Lay the roast down, fat side up. Insert the knife into the roast 1/2-inch horizontally from the bottom of the roast, along the long side of the roast. Make a long cut along the bottom of the roast, stopping 1/2 inch before the edge of the roast. You might find it easier to handle by starting at a corner of the roast. Open up the roast and continue to cut through the thicker half of the roast, again keeping 1/2 inch from the bottom. Repeat until the roast is an even 1/2-inch thickness all over when laid out. Bart spent most of the day preparing another feast. Turkey, Ham, and all the fixings. A huge meal. Delicious. We all sat down to the meal, a packed table. Twelve of us and every inch of the table covered. Five minutes into it, Mike called asking again for his Christmas gifts. I didn't want to prolong the conversation and he sounded anything but sober so I simply said, "you have the IPod and the NIntendo D.S. Goodnight, Mike."He called back. I didn't answer. He called back. I unplugged the phone.I mentioned to Bart that I wasn't interested in listening to the message alone. While some of us were still sitting at the table, came down and listened to them. He mentioned I probably wouldn't want to hear them and that he was talking about mail.I figured out immediately what he was assuming. In years past relatives have sent money to the kids for Christmas. He thought he had some here and he wanted it. Problem is, there isn't any here.So Bart and I came and celebrating Christmas

Choose a menu (we have four great ones to suggest).
If you're ordering a fresh turkey, do it now; if you're buying a frozen turkey, you still have time, but don't wait until the last minute. Remember: It's best to allow four to five days for it to thaw. (For advice on buying, defrosting, and cooking your turkey, see How Big a Bird, and Other Turkey Tips.)
Floral centerpieces finish off a well-set table. Florists are busy this time of year, so order flowers now. Four Days Before Thanksgiving
Start defrosting the frozen turkey in the back of the refrigerator, where it is coldest.
Compose a shopping list, and purchase all non-perishables. Wait until the day before Thanksgiving to buy salad greens, fresh bread, or seafood.
If you're baking pies for dessert, make the dough for the crust, roll it out, lay it into pie plates, and freeze.

Drove to Kenilworth town yesterday with a few friends for the PhD dinner. The venue was Sunam Balti House, an Indian restaurant at 57 Abbey End. My wife stayed back to look after the kids. Thanks Darling. They had booked for 20 guys but only ten of us turned up, which was good in one way and bad on the other hand. Good because it gave us a chance to interact more but bad because we had to pay more in the end. I thought it was a a little bit on the pricey side but the food was quite good and we had a nice time. Was about 12:30am when I finally reached home.
We saw The Game Plan, a movie about a dad falling in love with the daughter he never knew he had. It was a great demonstration of how you can fall in love with a child very quickly. The boys are hoping for go-carts, mini golf, and Joe's Crab Shack...Here are some shots of us tonight. The boys at the movieWilson with his new Dad (this kind of shows just how tiny he is (Wilson, not Bart)Leon with the other new Dad (yes the haircut is still bothering me)

Here are some rather disturbing photos of British actress Joely Richardson at the Cartier party in London yesterday. With her collarbones and spine protruding, the 42-year-old actress appeared to have lost an alarming amount of weight as she attended the Cartier party celebrating the launch of the firm's new London store.Wearing a backless black satin gown, Miss Richardson revealed painfully slender arms as she appeared on the red carpet at the Natural History Museum.'Joely's weight loss was the talk of the night,' said a fellow partygoer. 'While her face and hair looked great, her physique was utterly unrecognisable.'In heels she is well over 6ft tall, which only goes to emphasise her skinny frame.'Although she may just have been overdoing things in the gym of late, if she has been watching what she eats, perhaps she has taken the dieting a tad too far.'
