One of the new projects for California Adventure is Cars Land. The expansion will be an entirely new, 12-acre addition, immersing guests into a world inspired by the hit Disney•Pixar movie, Cars, playing to America’s love affair with automobiles. One of the attractions you can look forward to is: Radiator Springs Racers, a major “E-ticket” attraction, places guests right in the middle of the amazingly detailed, dimensional Cars world of Mater, Lightning McQueen, Doc and Sally. Guests get a quick race briefing from Doc and Lightning, and suddenly find themselves in the midst of a race around hairpin turns and steep banks. Disney found out what a good thing was with the 1937 film Snow White. It was artistic, scary, creepy, beautiful, somewhat kinky, and ultimately satisfying. Then in the 50s and 60s, they got sidetracked by exploiting passive busty blonde princesses. The newer crop that began in the 80s was an attempt to do better. Ariel was less passive, but still a busty rebellious teenager who fell for the first pretty face she saw. Belle was a great improvement: heroic, loyal, and she read books too! Jasmine was an attempt to integrate the Princesses, but the movie Aladdin was still full of racial stereotypes, as was Pocahontas. Disney has a hard time getting a clue. Their best effort was Mulan, who was not white, not passive, and not at all boy-crazy. The trouble is, she wasn’t a princess, either. The Appleton Post-Crescent is reporting that Disney has sought out a cheese carver from Little Chute to carve a cheese figure for the release of Ratatouille on Blu-Ray and DVD on November 6. Cheese carver Troy Landwehr planned to finish this week his cheddar rendition of Remy, the French rat and chef-in-training of Disney and Pixar's summer animated feature "Ratatouille."
