Election has brought back two big political parties at the corridors of powers in Pakistan. These parties are well-known for their mismanagement , maleadministration and corruption. There were able to get seats in the parliaments because of American and Saudi intervention and influences.During the election campaign these political partiies criticised Musharraf's policies and called him Washington's lackey. Now the questions is : Will Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim Nawaz be able project a stronger image of independence? In my opinion, Neither PPP nor PML will be able to address Amerian ineterests in the region.PPP is dominated by secular minded Shiites and PML-N has links with Islamic militants.
Results from the voting in Pakistan reveal widespread lack of enthusiasm for President Musharraf since his political party, PML-Q suffered a severe defeat. The Pkistan People’s Party of Benazir Bhutto led all parties having captured at least 88 seats in the National Assembly while the Pakistan Muslim League-Mawaz which has been working with the [...]
There has been much talk in the media about whether Pakistan’s ‘President’ Pervez Musharraf will be able to rig the outcome of yesterdays general election. [18.02.08] That he wishes to do so is obvious to all, as Musharraf’s very presence in the Presidential Palace is an indictment of the fact he rigged his own election to that office. Although this time around due to the unpopularity of Musharraf and the Pakistan Muslim League [Q], that represents his views, it will be far more difficult for the ‘president’ to steal this election and by all accounts the opposition have done extremely well.Nevertheless there is a factor about this election that is rarely mentioned in the western media and that is who ever wins, rigged or not, they will not have a democratic mandate as we in the West understand it.For in Pakistan any citizen who does not have a university degree is ineligible to stand for Parliamentary office, now in a country in which there is little free State education,
The ongoing inabiity of Turkey to confront its Ottoman past intruded into an election in France when the mayor of Villeurbarine confronted a candidate, who happens to be of Turkish background, to take a stand on the issue of the Armenian genocide. Sirma Oran agreed to classify the 1915 killings of hundreds of thousands of [...]
The people of Russia have an extraordinary opportunity to actually engage in an electoral process, but the manner of this so-called free election raise many questions. Deimitry Medvedev, chosen successor of President Vladmir Putin, enjoys constant publicity and literally unlimited access to the media. The benevolent leader, Putin, wants to ensure his protege has no [...]
Tonight was the first time I recall seeing presidential campaign commercials. Of course; they were Obama and Clinton ads. Both of them centered around, "don't worry about being responsible for yourself, let us do it for you."

A suicide bomber killed at least ten people, including an election candidate and injured 13 others in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal region on Monday. The attacker rammed his car, which was laden with explosives into candidate, Nisar Ali's convoy, police said on condition of anonymity. "Ten people were killed, including election candidate Nisar Ali and an administration official, while 13 others were wounded in the attack on their convoy," the Dawn quoted an official, saying. Elections in Pakistan will be held on February 18. On Saturday, a suicide bomber had attacked an election rally of the opposition Awami National Party, killing at least 30 and wounding several others. (ANI)
I am proud of what the democrats are doing with being so historic with these two candidates. I really like them both very much. I would be happy with either one winning the final nomination. Hillary has more experience with everything she has gone through with knowing what to expect. Barack does have less experience but does give change that allows us to move forward. Even though I would never vote for him. I am surprised by republican Mike Huckabee. He has really been fighting an amazing race with the lack of money he has. I do give him complements on that with something to be said with what he has accomplished. The election with what has been going is just amazing how this race has been going. It is like a horse race or something. In my lifetime this is the most exciting election I have witnessed because so many historic things going on with it. - Political T-Shirts

Voters in the German state of Hesse are voting after a campaign that was highlighted by vicious attacks against Turkish immigrants. President Kibaki stole an election by manipulating vote counts. Undoubtedly, he assumed opposition parties would scream but eventually allow his actions to be accepted. Unfortunately, his theft has resulted in an outburst of tribal anger as opponents and defenders of his theft clash over a dispute that has escalated from anger over a vote count [...]
I have done a fifty state analysis and I can see no way for Obama to win the general election. I can see no state that Obama can win that Kerry lost in the last election. I believe that he would lose several of the states in the upper Mid
Yeah, I know. Hard to believe, isn't it? *cough* It seems she doesn't like to play fair. Hillary Clinton has issued a call to retroactively seat the delegates from Michigan and Florida that were ousted for holding their primaries earlier than allowed. She does so in the language of party unity: “I believe our nominee will need the enthusiastic support of Democrats in these states to win the general election, and so I will ask my Democratic convention delegates to support seating the delegations from Florida and Michigan. I know not all of my delegates will do so and I fully respect that decision. But I hope to be President of all 50 states and U.S. territories, and that we have all 50 states represented and counted at the Democratic convention." Of course, this is complicated somewhat by the fact that she ran unopposed in Michigan — because her opponents followed the rules and took their names off the ballot and she did not — and is expected to win Florida easily. She has
In MY opinion, he is the ONLY Democratic candidate who has the courage to stand up for his non-violent, peaceful, tolerant, liberal beliefs, Dennis Kucinich will ALWAYS have my respect as well as loyalty no matter WHERE his path may take him. Hopefully it will take him right into the Oval Office some fine day, but as for now, I wish the entire Kucinich family the very best of success, as they deserve nothing less than this after the shameful manner in which Congressman Kucinich was MIStreated by so many. READ ABOUT THIS HERE Practice non-violence in your lives. You will be leaving your children a beautiful legacy.
I watched TV debates the same words are being said it starts to sound the same after while. Who is a better candidate I don’t know yet. I like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. I am very much undecided who I like better to be honest I like both. Barack does have less experience but does give change. Hillary has more experience with everything she has gone through with knowing what to expect. Whoever becomes president will have a gigantic job ahead of them. In away more experience does make me feel better and relieved. Although does come a time for a new era to begin with change allows us to move forward. My thoughts whoever becomes the president I do hope it is a democrat. - Books Barack Obama - Books Hillary Clinton
An investigation by the British newspaper, The Independent, uncovered evidence of vote rigigng in a third of all Kenya constituencies during the past presidential election. Stuffed ballot boxes and election officials altering rsults played a decisive role in Kibaki’s final “victory.” The Independent discovered that in 88 of the 210 constituencies the turnout was [...]
As the province of Alberta rumbles towards an expected call for a late-spring election, activity on the political scene is heating up. The pending merger of the Alberta Alliance and Wildrose Party is still topical water cooler chat, with positions for and against filling the op-ed columns. Now along comes the latest buzz. The first salvo has been fired in the unofficial campaign, and it wasn’t from the gun of the ineffective Kevin Taft-led Liberals or the sideshow Whyte Avenue New Democrats. The rocket that hit Premier Ed Stelmach’s bulls-eye (and has scored a direct hit) is courtesy of ‘Albertans for Change’, which describes itself on its website as:‘…an initiative of the Alberta Building Trades Council and other coalition members including the Alberta Federation of Labour, which together represent nearly 200,000 working Albertans. Our coalition believes strongly that democracy is best served when governments are held accountable for their decisions and when voters are en

I am very into this election of watching everything I can with learning about candidates. I am independent voter who will be voting for a democrat in the election of 2008. On the democratic side, I am not sure whom I will vote for I like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. I am very interested in both sides of the race with candidates is important to watch. Winner of republican John McCain does not surprise me I don’t know if he will be the final nominee. Never know I guess he is better qualified than the others in that party are. Democrat Hillary Clinton winning over Barack Obama so now they both won one. Those two candidates will be fighting it out until someone is the final nominee. I think it will be interesting to watch the next caucus I do like them both equally. I do like Hillary I think she would make a good president she is very smart and has been in white house before being first lady. I also think Barack Obama would be a great president too. I really like him is a great can
Oh, please, enough with the talk about compressed election calendars and how the presidential candidates have had only five days to campaign in New Hampshire and how the citizens, these poor dears, just don’t have enough time to evaluate the candidates and make up their minds.
There have been dozens of debates for nearly a full [...]

The winner for democrats was Barack Obama I am happy for him I have to admit he does have something special about him. Many people have said he reminds them of John F Kennedy. I agree Obama has that something special can’t explain with words but know something is so great about him. Now onto New Hampshire Caucus. - Shop Political T-Shirts and More at CafePress
As Raila Odinga, leader of the Orange Democratic Movement met with Archbishop Desmond Tutu from South Africa, President Kibaki of Kenya dug in his heels and insisted the election was fair and he was legally elected. The United Nations has said that Pakistan’s decision to postpone the January 8 elections was country’s "internal matter". "We have no comments as it is an internal matter of Pakistan," UN spokesperson Michele Montas said. Replying to a question, she said that the UN was not involved in Pakistan’s electoral process. Pakistan’s Election Commission postponed the general election by six weeks due to the turmoil sparked by the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto. Meanwhile, the White House has said that it saw no need for a United Nations investigation into Bhutto’s slaying because Britain’s Scotland Yard would lead the current probe. "Scotland Yard being in the lead of this investigation is appropriate and necessary and we don’t see a need for an investigation beyond that at this time," spokeswoman Dana Perino said. Amid charges from Bhutto’s allies that the Musharraf regime had mishandled the probe
After Pakistan Election Commisiion’s decision to postpone January 8 polls, US now hopes that the Pakistani people will be allowed to have a free and fair election where there is the widest possible participation. "Hopefully in the next few weeks, the political parties will be able to campaign freely and make their case, and then the voters can decide," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said. Asked whether the US was worried that the election might not be free and fair, Perino replied: "We have no indication that it wouldn’t be, but of course, we’ll continue to monitor." Perino later said that she was unaware of charges made by Benazir Bhutto’s allies that she was killed as she planned to go public just hours before her death with evidence of plans to rig the vote. Meanwhile, the Bush Administration has decided to go along with the Pakistan Election Commission (EC’s) decision to postpone the polls from January 8 to February 18. &quo

Kenya conducted a democratic election which was supposed to produce a president who had clearly gained a majority of the vote. Unfortunately, there are widely different vote results at this point in time. Pakistan continues to experience chaos in the aftermath of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. Nawaz Sharif’s counsel Akram Sheikh has rejected Attorney-General Malik Muhammad Qayyum’s view that the former Prime Minister is permanently disqualified from contesting elections because of his conviction in the plane hijacking case Sheikh said that Sharif is fully qualified to contest the election, but he had opted not to approach the judges who had taken oath under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO). "Keeping in view the Constitution as interpreted by our Supreme Court and the global jurisprudence, Sharif is absolutely qualified to contest the elections," Sheikh said. "Sharif has opted not to approach the judges who had taken oath under PCO. Therefore, he opted to stay within the ring. Otherwise, there are no fetters on his legal character to contest the present or future elections," he added. He said that Sharif’s nomination papers were rejected on December 3, 2007, despite the fact that they were accepted for the 2002 elections when the

Have been many debates so far the democratic and republican side of the US president candidates for 2008 election. I watched some of the debates on TV of thinking is that is it so early in the election process that things could change so much. Like candidates dropping out or new candidates joining or even candidate scandals that could surface from now to then. It is somewhat hard to really decide whom I like yet because so much could change yet like things do all the time in life. I am an independent voter who will vote democrate. Even though I will vote that way I have favorites in both parties equally. I enjoy the run of the race on each side in what they have to say I find this election very exciting. It is all so wonderful I find it very thrilling the possibility of a woman president. I will not say who are my favorites yet I do like many of them I am still in the process of deciding whom I like the best. It is only 2007 much can happen between now and then into 2008. I think it wi

Given the absolute lunacy of the 2008 election cycle and the fact that it’s just been dragging on and on for months now, I have tried to avoid any commentary unless something really got me fired up. The following timeline demonstrates how difficult it can be to get a perfectly clear answer to a simple question, which is unfortunate when the subject is the reliability of our local election system as well as our local mainstream media. For several weeks, we have been following the story about what went wrong with The Enquirer’s reporting about election night delays. Now, we have answers from several involved parties, but the responses still don’t add up.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Benzair Bhutto has expressed serious reservations about the transparency of the upcoming general elections, and said her party is keeping
Leaders of opposition parties to President Putin’s United Russia party insist election results do not reflect the actual manner in which the Russian people voted. The Green Man once again presents his post election analysis of dumbness in the Australian electorate. As all Australians would know, but possibly others may not, voting is compulsory in Australia. Whilst this is a concept that many may find strange The Green Man thinks it is a good idea. One consequence however is that even the dumbest in the electorate are required to turn up at a polling station and mark their ballot paper. Fortunately this group manage to eliminate any affect they may have on the outcome by their incapacity to number six boxes in order of their preferance without stuffing it up.
