By Ori Lewis JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel began cutting electrical power to the Gaza Strip as part of a plan to sever economic ties with the territory, an Israeli defence official said on Friday. It is the latest in a series of Israeli steps to increase pressure on Gaza, ruled by the Hamas Islamists since June and the source of repeated rocket attacks into the Jewish state. A spokesman for Defence Minister Ehud Barak said Israel cut 5 percent of electricity late on Thursday on one of 10 high-power lines that supply the Gaza Strip. The reduction will, at this point, translate to less than 1 percent of the 124 megawatts Israel supplies for the entire coastal territory, he said. "This is a signal to the Palestinians that we see their conduct in Gaza and that we want to continue the disengagement process. I hope they will focus their effort on getting new sources of energy instead of developing ... rockets," spokesman Shlomo Dror said. Critics accuse Israel of imposing
The Viet Nam Electricity Corporation (EVN) has announced that demand for electricity consumption will sharply increase in 2008, up to 77 billion kWh.
However, the corporation will be able to meet demand of 53 billion kWh, and will have to buy another 24 billion kWh from other local power companies...

In a unique initiative, China has started the world's largest cow-dung methane power plant in the Inner Mongolia region, thus using the greenhouse gas methane for generating electricity on a massive scale. According to a report in ENN, the power plant, which was started with an investment of 45 million RMB (roughly 5.7 million dollars) from the country's largest milk producer - Mengniu Dairy, is able to supply 10 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to the national power grid. Methane gas is the second-largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions worldwide after carbon dioxide, the report said. An adult cow emits 80 to 110 kilograms of the gas over its lifetime. Worldwide, 1.2 billion large ruminants, including cows, produce an estimated 80 million tons of methane annually, accounting for some 28 percent of global methane emissions from human-related activities, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency. In total, the livestock sector is resp
Allowing utilities to automatically change settings via the Internet for water heaters, dryers, and thermostats cuts bills 10% and reduces load on the grid, a test study has found.
Consumers can override the settings if they want. But most found the settings to be fine.
From day one of the invasion of Iraq critics have been complaining about the emphasis on guns and bombing over the need for economic development of Iraq. I’ve been doing some research while it is rainy out, regarding generating electricity with heat from the sun..
There are lots of ways to generate electricity from heat, but for the most part they don’t seem cost-effective for the do-it-yourselfer to piece together.
As far as the actual semiconductor you want to use, from what I have [...]

Channel 2 claims the action is not meant to punish Palestinians but to implement an Israel Cabinet meeting of last month which designated Gaza as a “hostile entity.” Channel [...]

Nearly ten years after the openingup of Europe's telecommunications market, it's the turn of energy. What is in store for this votal part of our lives?
As a result, in 1996 and 1998, the first electricity and gas directives were adopted, representing an important step towards the creation of an internal market in these sectors.
BAGHDAD - Iraq’s electricity grid could collapse any day because of insurgent sabotage, rising demand, fuel shortages and provincial officials who are unplugging local power stations from the national system, electricity officials said on Saturday.
President Bush, meanwhile, was busy on the phone, calling Vice president Adel Abdel-Mahdi and President Jalal Talabani, urging political unity in the country, where the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is under a stiff challenge.
Abdel-Mahdi, a Shiite, and Talabani, a Kurd, provided few details of the conversations in statements released by their offices. But both men have been involved in trying to solve a government crisis after Iraq’s largest bloc of Sunni political parties ordered its ministers to quit the government.
For many Iraqi citizens, however, trying to stay cool or find sufficient drinking water was a more urgent problem. The Baghdad water supply already has been severely affected by power blackouts and cuts tha
I’m so slow, but I realised that it’s Live Earth day, you know, the series of concerts ‘for’ the environment even though all these concerts will burn up ‘resources’ such as electricity - all without the Bacchanalian fanfare of Woodstock.
We live in an era that is so…straight laced. I know one thing; I'd need a decent handful of hallucinogens to endure some of the musical acts, some of whom (not mentioning any names, but we're talking 5 star pop star material) mime through their sets (because they can't sing to save their lives).
I don’t want to say it because it saddens me...but screw it, I'll let it all hang out.
This era is politically correct to the point of absurdity; where dating and screwing is determined by your 'social conscience', or wait, whether your social conscience dances to the trendy tune. My pot-head moments were usually restricted to rare coming together moments, but there are days where I think, especially now, that I need a regular hit
The three main hazards are contact with the live parts, fire and explosion. Each year about 1000 accidents at work involving shocks and burn are reported and about 30 of these are fatal. Fires started by poor electrical installations cause many other deaths and injuries. Explosions are caused by electrical apparatus or static electricity igniting flammable vapours or dust.Assess the risks from your use of electricity and use the precautions described in this section to control them. Remember normal main voltage (240 volts AC) can kill. The risks are greater when electricity is used in harsh conditions, e.g. portable electrical equipments used outdoors, or in cramped spaces with a lot of earthed metal work, e.g. inside a boiler or bin.Reduce the Voltage1. lighting can run at 12 or 25 volts2. portable tools can run at 110 volts from any isolating transformer.Provide a Safety Device1. a residual current device can act as a safety trip when there is a fault. This is not a substitute for a
Now those eggheads at MIT (massachusetts institute of technology) have done something truly magic, figuring out a way to send power seven feet away, and look ma, no wires. Their trick uses resonant coupling, turning electricity into magnetic energy resonating at a certain frequency that proved to have that old black magic.
For some reason, 10MHz is that certain magic number. Resonating a coil at
Now that I've given birth to OutInUruguay.com I have a little more time to work on other things. I've been promising entries about electricity for a while so here's Part I.Part I, Electricity in the world. All of North America uses a common electrical standard Alternating Current (AC) 120 volts at 60 Hertz. Growing up in Canada or the United States you're not exposed to any other electrical standards. Well, it turns out that most of the world uses 220 volts at 50 Hertz. While researching this entry I discovered that it's commonly accepted that 220 V at 60 Hz is the most efficient way to deliver electricity but very few countries around the world use this standard. To make this a little more confusing the terms 120 V and 220 V are not really accurate. 120 V really allows for a range from 100 V to 127 V. Anything you plug in should be able to operate with an electrical supply falling within this range. 220V allows for a range of 220 V to 240 V.Uruguay uses 220 V at 50 Hz. The good news is
