Faith Assembly has been an essential part of America's synthpop and new wave underground since the early 90's, winning the admiration and respect of fans wherever they are heard. This fourth studio album builds on that solid reputation, with one memorable song after another. Faith Assembly draws the listener into their world with another strong concept album, packed with emotion and lush
(Via Caleb T.)I was raised by hyper religious parents, and I went to a private Christian school for the first decade of my education. Quite literally everyone I spoke to, every friend I had, and every adult-figure in my life was a fundamentalist Christian. The thought of atheism was to my young mind silly, though I felt sorry for all the people for their future stint in hell.At the age of seventeen, I began to question things. I am bisexual, and it was at that age that I began to realize this fact about myself. For the first time I picked up a Bible and read it completely - from Genesis to Revelations, and for the first time I began to realize how barbaric and silly most of it was. It was at this point I became a deist. (I did not as of yet have the courage to reject God completely.)I quickly graduated to an agnostic, and then more slowly developed into the militant atheist I am today. I still find myself mumbling prayers to myself, and I still have a bit of a fear of hellfire. These t

I am going to do something a little different this week. Back on Thursday I had a blogging buddy post on his 13 favorite hymns. He put a lot of time and effort into his list and has video clips for every single one! They are some amazing and wonderful hymns of praise and encouragement. So today I am linking over to DrillerAA's blog and suggest that you take some time to go and listen and be blessed! Please leave him a comment and let him know how much you appreciate his hard work! 13 Hymns of the Faith
As the Internet becomes more and more popular, free dating sites that cater to the personalities and preferences of many different types of people are multiplying every day. There are even free singles sites that are dedicated to people of a certain faith, and none are more popular than free Christian dating sites that let [...]
We now know that Barack Obama's victory in South Carolina took part with the assistance of church leaders, and that the core of his votes came from habitual churchgoers. How much longer, with this growing involvement of churches in presidential campaign, will it be before no candidate will be able to become President of the United States without approval from the nation's most powerful churches?
By Ayesha Rascoe BALTIMORE (Reuters) - President George W. Bush reflected on his battle with alcohol abuse on Tuesday, acknowledging that he once drank too much, as he sought to showcase the religious-based programs that have been one of the controversial initiatives of his presidency. Bush, who gave up alcohol at age 40, made the comment during a visit to the Jericho program, run by the Episcopal Community Services of Maryland, which helps recently released prisoners re-enter the workforce. The visit was part of an effort to highlight one of his domestic priorities -- providing government funding for religious-based organizations to help their communities. "Addiction is hard to overcome. As you might remember, I drank too much at one time in my life," said Bush, who has often stated that religion became a greater part of his life after he gave up alcohol. "I understand faith-based programs. I understand that sometimes you can find the inspiration from a higher
Atheists and others who buck the established religious systems have suffered from a bit of a PR problem since the beginning of recorded history. There are countless stories of the heretics, the blasphemers, and the impious being imprisoned, tortured, and killed. Atheism wasn't even a prerequisite; Socrates was sentenced to death for only believing in one of the gods in the Greek Pantheon. The official charge: impiety. Why is it that this stigma has taken root so firmly within the minds of human beings? Why has this trend persisted for millennia?
The answer is faith. Faith is the cause of this discrimination against the religiously atypical. The situation is as true today as it ever was, although in most civilized lands the punishment is much less severe. Perhaps one will only be ostracized by their family, classmates, or colleagues after revealing their lack of religious affiliation. The Islamic countries appear to be the main protagonists of violence in the name of religion thes
In an interesting blog article by Brokep, the Swedish police have issued an apology for using the Pirate Bay in a “Police Museum focusing on online crime”. The police have since pulled down the display, and actually issued an apology. Remember that the Pirate Bay has not been to trial yet, they have not been [...]
It's been quite sometime since I wrote a post here. It's not that I have been too busy as I have been updating my other blogs, it's just one (or a few) of those days when you just don't feel like updating. Finally got around to visiting one of the blogs on my long long overdue "to review" list. I only a few more to go now. I also realise that most of them have removed the link to my blog but I am still going ahead. 'A battle of faith and love' is one of the few blogs that made me think. The author who calls herself Chickpea, who was raised as a Muslim, shares her thoughts on religion and spirituality. Most of the content is quite serious. Quite interesting as I ask/ have asked the same questions but came to quite different conclusions, though some views on some issues were quite similar. The blog has a simple and neat Wordpress layout with no ads - makes it stand out from the ad splattered blogs that litter the blogosphere now.

This week's Catholic Carnival seems to be all about the pieces of our lives that make up our national culture. It seems appropriate to discuss our culture at the start of a new year - we even have posts challenging us to improve it (through learning and teaching our Faith). So without further adieu, here's the Catholic Carnival:
Faith: that sustains us and our culture.
As a first time religious ed teacher (I have first graders), I can attest to the truth of Catholic Matriarch in My Domestic Church's submission. But it's more than that! She offers A Catechetical Challenge for 2008. Are you up to the task?
Father V at Adam's Ale throws a little humor, a lot of truth, and some thoughtful opinion in a post on eulogizing called Not Such A Dead Topic. Think a eulogy should be done at Mass? Read this post first . . .
My Domestic Church gives us a little More on Saint Columba. It all starts with an email - and I would be surprised if you don't learn something new.
And with more to learn,
Let the Peace of Christ reign in your heart.

Here’s a cute video of Faith walking with her new pushtoy she got for Christmas. This is just too cute, to not share. And please excuse my very “southern” accent….and the dirty kitchen….and my half naked 3 1/2 year old.
The ways of our God defies logic, and sometimes if we think even for a little while before we obey Him, we will have second thoughts of following His orders. And most of the time we follow what we think is logical, and eventually miss His blessings and our victory.
An old hymn that we sing in our Sunday worship ages ago comes to mind, Trus5 Zoom(s)
Inspired by Lawren Coope, I chose faith as my “one little word” for 2007. I loved this idea, loved the reminder and connection to the word that developed. The posts associated with my one little word are all together here. More info about “one little world” is available at Lawren’s blog, especially this post and [...]
When we claim a moment to be magical, we feel as if that moment transcends our normal experiences, our ingrained rules, and our cultural outcomes. Magic raises us out of skepticism slowly but if it is good enough, we become fervent believers.Magic realism is a literary term describing how a story is told. The stories are grounded in reality but some characters have "supernatural" or larger-than-life abilities. With magical realism, women can take flight with dewy, velvet wings, fleeing a life that only had one outcome by trying to escape her iron-clad destiny.Authors such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez (author of One Hundred Years of Solitude and Love in the Time of Cholera - which was just released as a movie) and Isabel Allende (author of The House of Spirits) and Gina B. Nahai (author of Moonlight on the Avenue of Faith) are some authors who write magical realism. Gina Nahai's character, Roxanna the Angel, took flight from a generational destiny and from Tehran where a woman's ability to
2. What impact has your family had on your beliefs? Do they support your search?Only my father is Catholic, and it is thanks to him that I and my siblings have been baptised and sent to Catholic schools. While my mother is technically Anglican, a structured religion for her children is only as important to her as it is because of how important it is to my father. I have been encouraged to embrace my religion, but it doesn’t occupy a huge place in my family’s life. Religion seems to be something we forget about for a while, until suddenly Easter or Christmas comes around and Dad remembers that we should probably go to Church more often. I seldom discuss my beliefs with my parents, or they with me. It was always assumed that Dad followed Catholicism inwardly as well as outwardly and that Mum wanted us to do the same, but I had no idea what she believed herself until I asked her very recently. When I was about twelve or thirteen my father asked me whether I believed in God. It had been
Faith can go jump in a hole and die. Sick of it. But here's Part One of what I submitted to my Religion teacher. She better like it, it took me two months to write. Or get around to writing, anyway. It's surprising how difficult it was. Enough beating around the bush. Here it is.1. Do you believe in God?I believe that there is a possibility that there is a God. I know as a Catholic I am supposed to believe in God as a certainty. I know I'm supposed to use my unwavering faith to dispel any doubts regarding the existence of God. I know I'm not supposed to be cynical, I'm just supposed to believe. I also know that I'm not satisfied with that. I've been brought up to think that my religion is to be one of the most important elements of my life. Knowing that, I'm not prepared to just accept the one religion I was born into, without looking thoroughly at why I'm supposed to believe these things, why my father's religion is any better than the Muslim's down the road and why I need a religion

So the Enquirer does a story on the County getting ready to sell of delinquent real estate taxes to collection agencies. Good job. The public gets a heads up on what may happen to them if they are behind on taxes.
In the Glorious Qur’an, Allah, Most High, says, “And Allah turned back the unbelievers for (all) their fury: no advantage did they gain; and enough is Allah for the believers in their fight. And Allah is Full of Strenght, Exalted in Might. And those of the people of the Book who aided them - Allah did take them down from their strongholds and cast terror into their hearts, (so that) some ye slew, and some ye made captives. And He made you heirs of their lands, their houses, and their goods, and of a land which ye had not frequented (before). And Allah has power over all things. (Al-Ahzab: 25-27)” In Sahih Al-Bukhari, we read the following narrations regarding the battle of Quraizha: Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned from Al-Khandaq and laid down his arms and took a bath, Gabriel come and said (to the Prophet) “You have laid down you arms? By Allah, we angels have not laid the down yet. So se
I have faith (pun intended) that at some point in his studies, Paul Davies has held a dictionary in his hands, and possibly even opened it. These days, it’s even less cumbersome with the advent of online dictionaries and the added benefit of providing multiple sources from which one can gain a better understanding of a particular word. In order to correct the compilation of fallacies presented in this piece, we need to start at the beginning—definitions.

David D. Kirkpatrick of the New York Times wrote this today about Willard Mitt Romney’s 1968 ministry in Paris as a Mormon missionary, when he and other Americans faced often-irate French, angry with the U.S. over the Vietnam War (and I give Romney credit for making this sacrifice, more than that made by some of the other Repug candidates for president). If you don’t mind, though, I’ll just skip ahead and answer the question of whether or not what Romney dealt with at this time somehow may have made him question our current quagmire in Iraq. I think it’s a reflection of Romney’s utter lack of curiosity or intellect that the answer is a resounding no; the only moment in Kirkpatrick’s story where you learn of any kind of emotional expression by The Mittster is as follows…When (Romney) heard over a car radio in 1978 that the (Mormon) church would offer blacks full membership, he said, he pulled over and cried.Gee gosh, Mitt, what a shame that everyone in your faith isn’t as

Today Barack Obama addressed a "multiracial evangelical congregation in traditionally conservative Greenville, South Carolina" (which is a really nice place) and stated "I think it's important, particularly for those of us in the Democratic Party, to not cede values and faith to any one party,"from CNN:Obama: GOP doesn't own faith issue"I think that what you're seeing is a breaking down of the sharp divisions that existed maybe during the '90s," said Obama. "At least in politics, the perception was that the Democrats were fearful of talking about faith, and on the other hand you had the Republicans who had a particular brand of faith that oftentimes seemed intolerant or pushed people away." Obama said he was pleased that leaders in the evangelical community such as T.D. Jakes and Rick Warren were beginning to discuss social justice issues like AIDS and poverty in ways evangelicals were not doing before. "I think that's a healthy thing, that we're not putting people in boxes, that

Jon Kitna told the media yesterday that the reason he recovered so quickly from a concussion was thanks to a "Miracle," and being touched by "The hand of God." It was in thanks to Him, that Kitna so quickly recovered, and led the lions to victory."That's really what it is. You can call it whatever it is, whatever the official diagnosis of it, whatever it was. But I've never felt anything like that, and then for it to clear up and go right back to as normal as I can be, is nothing short of a miracle in my life. I just definitely feel the hand of God."So it wasn't a just slight concussion, a minor injury that only a takes short amount of time on the bench to recover fully from the effects? Rather, it was a full blown, a feeding the masses with a couple of fish and a few loaves of bread, miracle? I think Kitna is using the term "Miracle" somewhat lightly...If Kitna believes that's so, and his faith helps him win games, that's fine by me. More power to him, as I'm sure his faith is one of
