It’s nice to know that Kaheawa Wind Farm produced 125,000 megawatt-hours in 2007. This computes to saving 236,000 barrels of petroleum to produce the same amount of energy! Another way of looking at it is that the wind farm produced enough energy to supply 11,000 homes.

India and Hungary signed agreements in different sectors, ranging from farm to family welfare and science and technology, on Friday evening. The pacts came after talks between Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Hungarian counterpart Ferenc Gyurcsany, who is on a four-day to India. Several Indian companies have a presence in Hungary in various sectors such as pharmaceuticals, Information Technology, power and auto-components. Bilateral trade between the two countries is on a growth path. In 2006-2007 Indian exports to Hungary amounted to 142.5 million dollars, while imports were 128.3 million dollars. Hungary, an important member of the European Union and a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), supports India's candidature for permanent seat in the expanded UN Security Council. (ANI)

The owner of White Egret Farms in far east Austin is charged with stealing from her customers. 59-year-old farmer Lee Dexter's turned herself into authorities last week.The Travis County Sheriff's Office said Dexter received orders via the Internet, then ran her customers credit card numbers at a nearby feed store. According to the warrant, several customers claimed they were overcharged. "We're very sorry if that indeed did occur and we will refund those moneys if that did indeed occur," Dexter said. The owner of the feed store told 7 On Your Side he received charge-backs because of this. He said he's out $10,000. "Our recent bill with them is more like $3000 and so we'll certainly apologize to the business and make it right with them in the future," Dexter said. The Better Business Bureau received more than 100 complaints about Dexter's farm in the past year and a half. Customer David Rice filed a complaint with the BBB. For those that are not familiar with the Farm Bill, it doesn’t seem like it should be such an important issue to the majority of Americans. Although farmers are important to our country’s economy and to our hard-working, rural roots, many of us don’t see the impacts of the Farm Bill day-to-day—or so we think. Until I became involved with the ONE Campaign, I didn’t think much of it. Now, I think about it on a daily basis along with my fellow members of the Farm Bill Working Group of Ohio which is a coalition of NGOs (Oxfam America, Sojourners, Bread for the World), local faith groups and individuals in Ohio that are working towards reform in the Farm Bill.

While Congress is getting ready to vote on a five-year farm bill that extends agriculture and nutrition programs, the GAO reports that over the past seven years the U.S. Department of Agriculture has handed out $1.1 billion to over 170,000 dead farmers. True, that only averages out to $6470.59 per person, but it's not bad considering that you not only don't have to work, you don't even have to be alive. At that rate you'd think people would be dying to get into farming.
