  • Cracks appearing in flickr’s geotagging community?
It seems that I'm not the only one who has lost interest in the once vibrant and innovative geotagging group on flickr. Threads about (lack of) accuracy, inability to position a map (and get photos), in fact to summarize the new map format is a disaste...

  • LOC Tagging Experiment on Flickr
The Library of Congress has uploaded two collections of photographs to Flickr and invited people to add tags. The sets are 1930s-40s in Color and News in the 1910s. It will be interesting to see how sucessful the tagging project is.These images have the rights statement "no known copyright restrictions", an experimental rights statement for Flickr. Reaction from Flickr users seems to be extremely positive.

Momma loves her baby And Daddy loves you too And the sea may look warm to you Babe And the sky may look blue Ooooh Babe Ooooh Baby Blue Ooooh Babe If you should go skating On the thin ice of modern life Dragging behind you the silent reproach Of a million tear stained eyes Don't be surprised, when a crack in the ice Appears under your feet You slip out of your depth and out of your mind With your fear flowing out behind you As you claw the thin ice [Soundtrack: Pink Floyd - The thin ice] it.youtube.com/watch?v=JzqjHHsegE8

The opposition of instinct and reason is mainly illusory. Instinct, intuition, or insight is what first leads to the beliefs which subsequent reason confirms or confutes; but the confirmation, where it is possible, consists, in the last analysis, of agreement with other beliefs no less instinctive. Reason is a harmonising, controlling force rather than a creative one. Even in the most purely logical realms, it is insight that first arrives at what is new. With that said, know this to be an evident truth: it took me twenty one years to take this photo. The reasons against are quite simple: the fog has never been quite right. Too thick, too thin, rainy, whatever. Once, years ago, I just knew I had the shot I had came for, only to find out that I had a film advance problem and a half-double exposure tripped me up. The fact that it was the last two frames on that roll further complicated matters coupled with my distinct lack of having. more. film. Duh... Never have I went out again with on
