Folding

  • Hudson Folding Boat
Gavin Atkin over at InTheBoatShed.net has an interesting post on the Hudson folding boat. A folding dinghy from the 1930's, it kind of shows that the various folding and Origami Dinghy designs aren't as newfangled as we might think.

  • Another Folding Bike for your Boat - now available in the U.S.
We've had some bicycle notes before... an electric bike, and some other good folding bike links. The bicycle is a popular transport method for when you go ashore, providing a compact method of transport that doesn't have much if any ongoing cost, doesn't require insurance, is always available (unlike borrowing the marina car) and even provides exercise. Of course hauling heavy items and foul weather are downsides, but you can't have everything :-)This Business Week article details another new entry into the U.S. market in the folding bike scene. The Strida  5.0 sounds like a nice rig.

  • VA Allows God Back Into Flag-Folding Ceremony
A nationwide uproar has caused the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to "clarify" its position - and allow the mention of God back into the flag-folding ceremony at military funerals.A VA official had pulled the recitation from ceremonies at national cemeteries last month after a single complaint was filed with the White House over the phrase accompanying the 11th fold that mentions "the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob," Fox News reported.READ MORE.....
  • Flag-Folding Recitation Banned at Veterans Cemeteries Nationwide
While America now caters to the minority few who want things their way or the highway, those who ultimately promote intolerance in the name of tolerance, have done it again. Now our veterans who have fought so hard for the freedom of others can no longer be honored by way of the flag-folding recitation at veteran cemeteries. Here are a few snippets from the news articles.... Through thousands of military burials, Memorial Honor Detail volunteers at Riverside National Cemetery have folded the American flag 13 times and recited the significance of every fold to survivors of those being laid to rest. A single complaint lodged against the words for the 11th fold recently prompted the National Cemetery Administration to ban the entire recital at all 125 national cemeteries. "It is a perfect example of government choosing to ignore religion in order to avoid offending some religions," Miller said. "To me, ignoring religion in general is just as problematic as endorsing any one religion."Re
  • Folding tshirt in a simple way
I stumbled upon this by chance, during one of my web hopping. Lo and behold, it was on youtube as well - well what isn't these days. I have no idea how long this technique has been around for , therefore must apologise if it is old news. Tried and tested , and it is really that easy. I went a bit over board and decided to re fold all the tshirts in our wardrobe. :)This technique is so simple to turn a mundane task into a quick 3 steps, that I do wonder why we couldn't figure it ourselves , well myself. :)
  • Folding Urinal
I know what you're thinking, but this looks legit, and might really have a boating application. Apparently using only 10oz of water per flush, this could help on the water use and holding tank use, and the space saving aspect of being able to fold up is really nice. Sold by Mister Miser.

Ironing board? Chuck it in there! Mop? Toss it in there! Vacuum Cleaner? In it goes. And so on, until eventually one day you realise that something just isn’t going to fit. When that day comes, it’s time to throw away your old bucket and call upon the folding bucket. Measuring 5cm’s tall and approximately 26cm’s long, the ‘Folding Bucket’ is a space conservationists dream. It even comes in a case to keep the whole thing even more discreet. Thankfully unlike traditional folding products, the case isn’t designed to stop the bucket from ‘springing open’ again. The bucket folds up in a rather relaxed manner and there’s no springs or tight compression, making it just as happy to stand as it is to
