  • Good Bye Grandma, Good Bye Lydia Sum
Due to my previous post, I gotta attend my grandma funeral at hometown later. Thanks for everyone who cared me so much. I will appreciate it. Just to add some information for my future memories, my grandma has expired at this morning, 8.47am at hospital. At the same time, just receive a news from my [...]

  • Grandma's Angels Watching Over Me
I can't think of a more inappropriate place to receive the news. Standing in a loud, smoke-filled casino, obsessively feeding money into the one-armed bandits, hope to leave Las Vegas and return to California as the richest twenty-six year old lady of 1970. I laugh as I watch Little Richard swish past me in his Elizabeth Arden make-up and uni-sex ruffled tuxedo. And then I hear myself being paged over the p.a. system. Mother, from her phone in El Paso, has summoned the State Highway Patrol in Nevada to track me down and give me the news. She wants me to know--right away--she has lost her mother-in-law. I feel tentacles of fear seize my stomach. She has lost only a mother-in-law. I have lost the only woman who ever understood me -- The only woman who touched me with tenderness. I have lost my trusted connection to God, and, quite possibly, the Angels Watching Over Me. As I hold the phone in my hand, I am only half-aware of Mother's non-stop voice. My mind travels back to a saf

  • T13--More About Grandma
My grandmother passed away on Saturday. She was very dear to me. You can read a bit about her here. So today I thought that I would share a little more about my much loved grandmother. She attended a one room school house. She graduated from 8th grade. She loved Scotty Dogs. She used interesting words I have never heard another use; words like floozie when someone wore too much make-up.She collected salt & pepper shakers. She liked to eat burnt black toast. She had the sweetest laugh. She never remarried after my grandpa died (he died in his early 40's from a heart attack). She hated snakes, they gave her the willies. She loved the big city and was scared of the woods. One way she showed you she loved you was to feed you a big meal. She took care of my great grandma (her momma) when other siblings would not.She filled my childhood with good memories.I miss you and love you grandma!

The absence of the Golden Globes and their red carpet disasters that even I, as someone who never, ever watches such drivel, can't help but notice in the days following the ceremony has left a fashion void in my life,...
  • Grandma’s Rolodex
My friend Anne recently travelled to New York state to spend Christmas with her boyfriend and his family. Having been with her boyfriend, Rick, for well over a year she felt confident that the trip Upstate for eight great days with his family, grandparents and all, was a milestone in their relationship. She says everything went [...]
  • Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer
Indeed she did. Penny Patch Produce & Garden Center had an intruder Monday morning. It was actually a doe - a deer, a female deer - that ran across Fleming Drive and jumped through the store's front window. "We've been here about 26 years, and we've had break-ins but never anything like this," said David Rakestraw, who owns the store with his brother. He said the deer hit their cashier, Carol Stroupe, who is somewhere in her 60s, as it crashed through the window. Stroupe was OK but a little bruised up. She went home early, but before she left, she told Rakestraw and his brother, Chris, she was going to tell her grandson, "Grandma got run over by a reindeer."
  • post 9-11 grandma moon blues
Many 9/11 ceremonies on the tube, yesterday.I watched an interesting story on the PBS Nova show, Building on Ground Zero. It's interesting to note that the WTC engineer Les Robertson (who feared that his company and his career were over when the twin towers fell) is currently working on the Shanghai World Financial Centre construction.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This is a "Grandmother Moon" mask that I am putting together for the "Lost Treasures" event in Kenora, October 4, 2007.------Sketches of a sculpture idea; Drummers.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"Turquoise Rose"; Navajo film reaches across cultural lines"It's the story of a college-age Navajo, raised in Phoenix, apart from her cultural roots, who is summoned to the reservation to care for her ailing grandmother.Much of the film was written while Hamilton was deployed in Iraq. • The Boys Go To Grandma's
I can't even say the word "Grandma" around my oldest because he goes goofy! Both boys love when she comes to visit and love it even more when we take the two of them over to her house. She has a huge fenced yard where they can run, dig (well, they try but I stop them!), sniff flowers, bark at the neighbor's dog (who gets into trouble because he barks back and he's been to "no barking" school), chase each other around the apple trees, play hide and seek under the big old spruce, eat leaves, play "get the stick" and generally cause mayhem. But dogs are a lot like people. Sure, we take them for walks...usually the same old boring route. Make no mistake...they are just happy to be out with us in the fresh air, but they too need some variety. Taking them for a visit to a "dog friendly" home is a great outing for them. They can explore the yard or house, be around new people and generally they tend to be more well adjusted when they have new things to stimulate their minds and noses. They eat

  • Being a Grandma
Kim isn't thirty yet. She has three kids. She walks to our church on Sundays. She gave me permission to share her story.I don't know the whole story yet... just bits and pieces. But I know that from the time she was two weeks old until she ran away from her Indpendent Living Program in Chicago at 17 with her two children, she never really had parents. She was a child that was truly "raised by the system."Her story is filled with tales of abusive foster parents, a godparent she viewed as a mother figure who the county would never completely license, psych hospital stays, suicidal thoughts, failed classes, and at least 15 group homes as a teenager where she "slept with her eyes open." It is filled with a sense of emptiness and loss at the childhood she never had.Her adult life as well has lacked roots. She has moved multiple times. The people she considers family she is not related to. The birthmom who has never really parented still shows up once and a while via phone to make
  • Grandma's Oatmeal Raisin Big Cookies.
Grandma's Cookie Company was founded back in 1914 by Foster Wheeler, but it wasn't until 1977 that the company introduced the popular Big Cookie. This large, soft cookie comes two -toa-pack and is offered in several varieties, including oatmeal raisin. Now you can bake up acouple batches all your own with this kitchen clone. Just be sure not to over do it in the oven. You want these cookies soft and chewy when cool -- just like a happy grandma would make 'em -- so take them out when they are just beginning to turn light brown around the edges.1/2 cup raisins1/3 cup water1/2 cup vegetable shortening1 egg1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla2 cups all-purpose flour1 1/4 cups oats (not instant)2 teaspoons baking soda3/4 teaspoon cinnamon1 teaspoon salt1/2 cup raisins1.Preheat oven to 275 degrees.2.Combine raisins with water in a food processor and blend on high speed for about 1 minute oruntil very smooth.3.Combine this raisin puree with the vegetable shortening, egg, brown

  • 2 Girls, 1 Cup, 1 Grandma, 1 Reaction
Sommige dingen moet je gewoon niet aan je oma laten zien. Je loopt namelijk grote kans dat het arme oude vrouwtje er onpasselijk van wordt, en dat moeten we natuurlijk niet hebben! Haar reactie is in ieder geval duidelijk: disgusting! 2 Girls, 1 Cup, 1 Grandma, 1 Reaction kun je hier gaan bekijken.
