A new set of Catalyst graphics drivers is out for users of AMD's Radeon graphics cards in Windows. The driver update is revision 8.1, conforming to AMD's month/year numbering scheme, and it brings a handful of bug fixes and a new feature for multi-monitor users.The new Catalysts introduce MultiView, a feature AMD says provides "full hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering across multiple graphics adapters setup in an extended desktop display configuration." In short, MultiView "allows for a 3D [application] to have the same performance running on a secondary or third display device as if it were running on the primary display device." Gamers can expect bug fixes in BioShock, Call of Juarez, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, F.E.A.R., Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Oblivion, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., TimeShift, World in Conflict, and World of Warcraft. The first building block of AMD's upcoming Puma mobile platform has launched, AMD announced today. That building block is the Mobility Radeon HD 3000 series of graphics processors, which bring many of the same goodies as desktop Radeon HD 3800 products to notebook computers.The new Mobility Radeon HD 3600 and Mobility Radeon HD 3400 GPUs feature support for DirectX 10.1 graphics, PCI Express 2.0 connectivity, and Avivo HD video acceleration. AMD's newest R680 graphics processor might look a whole lot like the ill-fated R600 GPU, but the reality couldn't be more bizarre. Instead of one 80nm behemoth-of-a-GPU, the R680 consists of two 55nm processor cores. Representatives from AMD would not confirm that the R680 is essentially two RV670 GPU cores on the same board, though the company did confirm that each core has the same specifications of an RV670 processor. The RV670 graphics core, announced last November with the Phenom processor, is the first 55nm desktop graphics adaptor. AMD does not target this card as a high-end adaptor, though reviewers were quick to herald the RV670 as AMD's best product of 2007. The company also made quick mention of the RV620 and RV635 GPU cores. These cores are nearly identical to the previous RV610 and RV630 processors, but will be produced on the 55nm node instead. All three of AMD's new GPUs are scheduled to launch next month.

Best movie graphics in 2007? I say it is a toss up between Spiderman III, Pirates of the Carribean 3 and Transformers. I have not seen the Transformers movie yet but I have seen its trailer and I reckon the movie graphics are pretty awesome. I have seen Spidey III and I was more impressed with the graphics more than the plot. There were a few instances though were I felt Spidey was a bit cartoony. The look and feel of some scenes particularly when Spidey swings through the highways did not feel right. I felt like watching a cartoon flick in some of the scenes. But dont get me wrong, the computer graphics is still impressive! Pirates of the Carribean well c'mon. We're talking about the great Jerry here! Let's say I was in awe with the effects and by the time the movie ended, I wanted to become a pirate too!
