Matchbook Romance's Hit Song "Monsters" Gets Boost From Hot New Game
Since Activision's release of the cultural phenomenon Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, which features 2006's hit song "Monsters," sales of Matchbook Romance's digital single have skyrocketed. Featured on the group's 2006 album, Voices, "Monsters" is currently averaging sales of over 5,500 digital copies per week since the game's release. Sales of the digital single have also driven album sales, which saw a significant increase since the games introduction.
"With limited opportunities for young bands to make a real connection with new fans, games like Guitar Hero III are having a huge impact on sales," explains Epitaph's Vice President of Sales Jon Strickland. "Matchbook Romance's sales were up over 1000% over the holiday period due to their appearance as one of the few newer bands featured in the game."

Activision is really doing their best to make us care about Guitar Hero III. They're beating out Rock Band at the moment strictly on the fact that Guitar Hero III is actually, for real, coming out on the Wii. But stuff like this, that is actually interesting content in the game, doesn't hurt.First they had Living Colour rerecord the awesome "Cult of Personality", and now the Sex Pistols have reunited (again) to record "Anarchy in the U.K." for the game. In both cases, this was done because the master recordings for the songs could not be found. Activision certainly seems to be wielding more clout than we realized they had. The Sex Pistols recently rerecorded "Pretty Vacant" for EA's skate, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that they will do things they've done before, again, for more money, twice. For Guitar Hero fans who find that going Pete Townshend on a plastic toy guitar after a monster encore is a little anti-climactic, a company called Art Guitar is offering an alternative with a little more heft. The company is now taking preorders for a life-size alternative to RedOctane's official ax, the limited edition AG Riff Master Guitar Controller for the PlayStation 2. The AG Riff Master is actually a real guitar from Peavey, but it's been heavily modified to have the standard Guitar Hero fret buttons and strum bar embedded within it. The strings have been removed so players can actually use the guitar to play the game, but the rest of the guitar--including the rosewood neck, tuning pegs, and frets--are all intact. Aspyr Media has partnered up with Activision to bring ‘Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock’ to the PC and Mac platforms. "She Bangs the Drums," as made famous by The Stone Roses, was unveiled as a new playable Guitar Hero III song yesterday during an exclusive hour-long screening at Edinburgh Interactive Festival.
