A young creative team from Orchard Advertising Mumbai – Siddhesh Kulkarni and Vikrant Yadav – have won the Young Lotus Award at the Young Lotus Workshop organised by the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) on February 8.The national contest was open to all AAAI member agencies and invited entries on the theme of Girls’ Education. The 114 entries received from 25 agencies were judged by KV Sridhar (Pops), national creative director, Leo Burnett India; Josy Paul, chairman and national creative director, BBDO India; and Bobby Pawar, national creative director, Mudra Communications. The print campaign by the team has a photo memento of a class with their teacher; the teacher is a woman. The baseline of the campaign reads: ‘An Educated Girl can Educate a Nation.’ Some 80 per cent of the teachers in India are women, and this was the thought the team kept in mind to arrive at the idea. The campaign has also been shaped in the web format.Another interesting entry was the
These lawmakers just have to be kidding me. They just have to, is all.
I mean what part of children and guns do not mix don't these irresponsible lawmakers there in West Virginia understand???!!!
Have they not seen enough of their childrens' blood being shed to want to actually ADD to their already outlandish, inappropriate and bizarre gun laws already in effect?
While I agree that all human beings should have the right to self-defend their lives, when it comes to LETHAL self-defense (especially in the case of minor children), I become absolutely livid at the prospect of adults wanting to educate their children that a lethal weapon such as a gun, is the best form of self-defense.
What I REALLY find difficult to understand is:
1) Why aren't more state lawmakers pushing for manditory education in the schools on the subjects of non-violence and conflict resolution instead of teaching our children how to handle a killing machine like a gun, for goodness sakes?!
2) If the state lawm
Ever since I held my first videogame gun zapper - that was in the SNES NES game, Duck Hunt, I always thought they designed those things to be “toy-like” for a reason. Well, one reason could be that it was aimed, I meant “targeted” at kids at that time.
Guess what? The kids who used to [...]

This letter appeared in the Bucks County Courier Times yesterday (no link available)…The New Year is a time for annual resolutions, and the standards for these include weight loss, exercise routines and spending quality time with loved ones. If, however, you spend a minute looking back at 2007 to try to develop a meaningful resolution, look at the nearly 400 families in Philadelphia who lost a loved one to gun violence and murder, more than 125 of the victims under the age of 25. Unfortunately that statistic included our family (sic).Eric was a 20-year-old college student, on the right track, going to school, working and enjoying his friends. His was not a typical gun death, barely newsworthy, but devastating to our family just the same. Perhaps if the gun laws included licensing and education requirements, his death may have been prevented. Our wish for the New Year is to help others avoid such a senseless death. Most people watch the news and feel sad, but most also feel powerless t

This quote from Michael Smerconish appears here…Single-parent house- holds pose more of a threat to safety than firearms. This was such a cosmically stupid observation that it has stuck with me all this time, and will continue to do so I’m sure. With that in mind, I’d like to present this story that states the following……new research overturns a commonly held belief that families fractured by divorced parents become inferior havens for children compared with stable homes."My findings that parenting practices are unrelated to divorce appear to fly in the face of accepted wisdom," said Lisa Strohschein, a sociologist at the University of Alberta in Canada. Some divorced couples may overcompensate for a split-up by focusing more attention on their kids, which could partially explain why divorced and married households scored similar child-caring marks. Now I have a question with this right away because 5,000 kids from two-parent households were involved in the survey, with only 200
Meet Jeanne Assam. She is a hero. A real hero. Not one of those average, boring heroes. She saved lives - perhaps many lives, while putting her own life at risk in the process. Siempre quise hacer mi propia lista con las canciones favoritas de toda la vida, de pronto resumir en solo cinco temas sería imposible contando con todo un arsenal de grandes éxitos que siempre vivirán en nuestras mentes como parte de una época de oro.

Reading this by bob reminded me of Guns ‘N Roses, and i went on a little journey of re-discovery of one of the greatest metal bands of the 90’s over the weekend, many thanks to my old CDs and Youtube.

The word Rail Gun conjures sci-fi images of a BFG (Big *$#$#%*#$ Gun) that does uber-damage. More like technology from the realms of RF Online or from movies like Arnold’s Eraser.
But that technology is slowly becoming reality.

I have no problem with the local boys in blue heading down to the local Hooters to blow off a little steam. Apparently the crack squad at Fox 5 Investigates doesn’t share my sentiment. So my advice to the officers is next time you might want to refrain from taking 20+ pictures along with video [...]
What could possibly be the reason why the Judges are dragging their feet as to a decision on the Second Amendment in the U.S. Consitution?
Perhaps they received so many e-mails from people like myself who are just plain sick and tired of gun violence in our country and feel that less than lethal weaponry as a form of personal self-defense would be a much more humane way to go from this day forward?
I can only hope so.

Cross Posted from Bear Creek LedgerThis is such a retarded report on Mexican drug cartels smugglingdrugs into the US. The drug cartels have American manufactured guns soof course CBS News is blaming the guns, not the drug smugglers! Nor are they lamenting the porousness of USborders. This biased, pathetic excuse for a reporter (ohhhh, he’s notreally a reporter, Keach Hagey is a paid “professional” blogger forCBS) then transforms the story into a BDS rant on Darfur. Unbelievable! They get into Mexico stuffed into the baggy pant legs orhidden in the trunks of “ants,” or gunrunners — often aided by corruptcustoms officials. The weapons are often bought legally at gun shows inArizona and other border states where loopholes allow criminals tostock up without background checks.Guns are now flooding into the country in part because of the cartelwar, and in part because of the ease of buying high-powered weaponssince the U.S. assault weapons ban was not renewed in 2004, accordingto a

OK, we've all seen the iPhone commercial that made Apple devotees plunk down $600 smackeroos to get a mobile device that promised to change their digital lives. You know, the one where said owner of said phone watches "Pirates of the Caribbean", gets a hankering for calamari, and finds a boatload of seafood restaurants in San Francisco. Well, imagine a companion site for mobile devices that lets you instantly reserve a table at the best-reviewed restaurant in Fisherman's Wharf. If you build it, they will come ... the question is, can you build it?
The Hired Guns are seeking a Mobile Interface Designer for our client, a major media company looking to fuse the best aspects of guides like Vindigo, MenuPages and Citysearch with reservation and ticket ordering tools like Fandango and OpenTable, wit
Despite the fact that Cincinnati Municipal Code 910-23 (the anti-marijuana ordinance) has made possession of small amounts of marijuana an offense that carries a permanent criminal record and possible jail time—and further, despite the fact that this law is being enforced unequally, with over six times as many blacks being arrested in the first year of the law as whites, several incumbent City Council candidates claim the law was effective because it took 62 guns off the streets. However, those 62 guns represent less than 2% of the overall number of people arrested. How does this compare to national studies examining the overall number of people in possession of illegal guns?
YIKES!! if THIS statement doesn't cause the people of our world to shudder and take notice of our gun-loving mentality, then nothing will.
Thank you, National Rife Association, for the leading part you played so well in this grotesque, revolting show.
It remains to be seen how many people will remain seated in the stale air of lethal weapons or decide to pick up and leave to breathe the cleaner air of less than lethal weaponry.

There seems to be a lot of milestone anniversaries in the year of 2007. I’ve already talked about the 40th anniversary of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and the 40th anniversary of the infamous Monterey Pops Festival and the “Summer of Love”. I’m also already looking forward to later this year discussing the 30th anniversary of the Sex Pistols’ Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols album, and the 40th anniversary of Cream’s legendary Disraeli Gears… And those are only the anniversaries I can remember…
There is another anniversary that is definitely worth remembering in the next few days though, and that is the 20th anniversary of Guns n’ Roses’ Appetite For Destruction earlier this month.
The raw, gritty, no holds bar hard rock and roll of Guns n’ Roses has achieved something of legendary status over the years with just about everyone knowing at least one song from the band,
I noted last week that The Philadelphia Inquirer had said nothing regarding the so-called Tiahrt Amendment, sponsored by Repug whack job Todd Tiahrt of the U.S. House (R-Crazyland, otherwise known as Kansas). This, as the Inky notes, protects rogue gun dealers by tying the hands of law enforcement in an effort to determine trends in murders committed by handguns through obtaining “trace data.”However, the paper did finally speak out on the matter today (here). The editorial also slams the PA State Legislature for its typical “thank-you-sir-may-I-have-another” routine on behalf of the NRA and politely chides the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus because, though they tried to get sensible gun legislation passed in Harrisburg (good luck there), they tried to do it by holding up the state budget in the process, affecting funding for SEPTA, preschool programs, etc. (but when all you have to grasp at are straws, sometimes straws look pretty damn good). But since we are talking abou
"Over 70 percent of the families surveyed reported not storing their firearms safely in their residence," said Robert DuRant, a pediatric researcher at Brenner Children's Hospital at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.
This is so unacceptable to me. Do these parents WANT their beloved children to have free access to their guns? I honestly do not understand their reasoning.
"Our research shows that unsafe gun storage is associated with families who were raised with guns in the home," DuRant said. "They tend to be more comfortable with guns and are less likely to store them safely."
This is quite ridiculous and not a plausible excuse at all! When these families were young children, they grew up in a completely different world.
Parents and caregivers, you need to be changing this behavior! I'm sure that you DO love your children and wish to see them grow up.
