By Ruchira Singh MUMBAI (Reuters) - India's demand for imported silver may stay weak for a fourth month as prices stay high, though buying may pick up later this month with the harvest and the ongoing wedding season, dealers said on Thursday. Silver prices are up nearly 10 percent in 2008, with near month futures on the Multi Commodities Exchange of India Ltd having seen a 21-month high on Feb 1 at 21,980 rupees per kg, dampening demand for the metal. "There has hardly been any import of silver in the last four months," said Suresh Hundia, president of Bombay Bullion Association who is also a large silver trader. "Instead, banks are stuck with silver stocks." A drop to 17,000-19,000 rupees per kg would revive demand for silver, dealers said. Silver scrap sales have increased, meeting the low-key local demand for jewellery, gift items and industrial use, Hundia said.
