By Ruchira Singh MUMBAI (Reuters) - Indian gold futures are seen targeting new highs this week in the midst of financial market concerns overseas and the possibility of a reduction in world supplies, analysts said. "People will be shifting their assets to bullion.. gold could test its last high," said Somnath Dey, head of metals and energy research at Religare Commodities Ltd. Indian gold futures extended gains from the previous day and was within striking distance of its all-time high of 11,899 rupees per 10 grams notched on Feb. 1. Some analysts said a break above 12,000 rupees was possible soon. Unwinding of hedge positions at some mines, including Peruvian Buenaventura, rise in gold exchange-traded funds and lower output forecast by the world's third largest miner, AngloGold Ashanti, have also signalled bullish days ahead for gold, an analyst at IL&FS Investsmart Commodities Ltd said. Meanwhile, global financial uncertainties due to credit market problems and

By Alex Lawler LONDON (Reuters) - Oil prices, which on Wednesday hit $100 a barrel for the first time, will probably go up further in the next five years unless economic growth falters and slows fuel demand. Falling production in some areas outside OPEC, robust growth in demand led by countries such as China and a strain on oil refineries to make fuels from crude are likely to extend a rally that began in 2002. "Oil could rise further from here," said Kris Voorspools, analyst at Fortis in Brussels. "It's simple supply and demand fundamentals." "Demand is going up and I think there is a structural problem with the refining sector. There's higher demand for higher-quality products and refineries are simply not up to making those kinds of products." The surge to $100 for U.S. crude on Wednesday has brought oil near the inflation-adjusted record peak of $101.70 hit in 1980 when war between OPEC members Iran and Iraq triggered an oil supply crisis. &q
Forget glitz, crowds and over-development: the key holiday destinations in 2008 will be those remote corners of the globe that offer comfort, solitude and authenticity, writes Mark Jones.Once upon a time, writing an article of predictions such as this would have been a straightforward task. Name-check some big openings, whisk around the atlas with a style thermometer naming what's hot, where's cool, where has gone tepid and who's been frozen out.No longer. Now you can't look forward in the travel business without grappling with the Big Issues: global warming, geo-politics, China, international security. Many of these issues came together at the Bali conference this month - and what a choice of venue that was. Only a few years ago, nowhere better symbolised the innocence of modern multicultural travel: a place where young Australians flocked to get drunk and rich Britons fled to chill out. Now Bali - sadder, wiser, bombed, more wary Bali - will become shorthand for nothing less than the

As in life generally luck is an important factor if a politician is to have a successful career at the highest levels. When Tony Blair’s first came to Office his early years were characterized by not only a growing economy which is a plus for any incoming government, but he also had the good fortune not to have experienced any of those uncontrollable events which Harold Macmillan's mentioned when asked by a journalist what can most easily steer a government off course and onto the rocks "events dear boy events” he replied. Contrasts Blair’s baptism as Prime Minister with that of Gordon Brown, in the first six months of becoming PM Mr Brown has had to deal with outbreaks of foot and mouth disease and bird flue, flooding which hit mainly in middle class England, the very constituency Gordon Brown has spent a life time sucking up to. The collapse of the Northern Rock Bank and now the Treasury's Revenue and Customs Department, due to gross negligence has lost the personal data of s
The Bush Administration fears that Pakistan is heading towards a "very, very flawed" election, which could result in further chaos and instability in the country.
The next game series to transcend from a video game to the big screen will be the purple and adorable Spyro the Dragon. According to a report today in Variety, The Animation Picture Co. picked up the film rights from Sierra Entertainment and is planning to turn Spyro into a 3D CGI feature film.Writers Steve and Dan Altiere (Dr. Dolittle 4 and 5) will pen a script based around the recent Legend of Spyro games, which are being planned as a trilogy. The most recently released game in that series was last week's Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night for the Wii, PS2, DS and GBA.Spyro will be The Animation Picture's third feature film; the company just finished Garfield Gets Real with Garfield creator Jim Davis. Considering that the Legend of Spyro game developers hired some big name Hollywood voice talent for their titles -- namely actors Elijah Wood, Billy West and Gary Oldman voicing Spyro, Sparx and Ignitus, respectively -- I would wager these individuals may be contacted to do the film.As
Mike did show up at the house tonight, but he grabbed a bag of his clothes, apparently, and left. Hopefully that is all he grabbed.I have to leave early in the morning, so I'm going to bed. But I am feeling much more settled now that I know MIke is not being a problem for the other kids and that Salinda is heading to place that will hopefully help her.So I can rest....
I recommended CTV and USM earlier this week. Both dropped yesterday but are picking up somewhat today. I am confident that they will reach my limit stop tomorrow. I'll enter it into my stock ratings for a closer look.I was also keeping an eye on WNR but it has tanked more. It is never good when the management of the compnay is getting out of their own stock! My filter thew out BTJ and WNR today. Neither of which I would buy due to both being regular visitors to my filter and neither of them perfomring particularly well. I am considering taking them both off my master list from which I search for stocks. I find that if the same stock continually shows as being oversold then it is not a good sign. Having said that I did make a swift 3%off BTJ last week.More tomorrow!TV
HMV is in a spot of trouble, and suspicions that nobody had much of an idea what to do have deepened with the news that they've redesigned their logo.. A little bit. Apparently, the idea is - simultaneously - to give it a more contemporary feelwhile"gently reassure" customers about HMV's heritage and expertise, the firm said. So, that's something that shows the heritage of the brand while being up-to-date. Like trying to play a 78 on an iPod, that's quite a feat. They're also going to add some words under HMV on the logo. "Get closer", apparently, which sounds more like a personal hygiene product than a record shop:It was developed as a result of a major brand review to engage with shoppers "in a more relevant way".HMV's new marketing campaign encourages shoppers to "get closer to the songs, films and games they love".The pink HMV Get Closer logo plus the black and white Nipper mascot will launch next week.HMV marketing director Graham Sim said the dog logo had been changed to make

I hope the Iranians are wetting themselves. According to DEBKAfile’s military sources, the US naval build-up off the shores of Iran marks rising military tensions in the region, accentuated by last week’s Hamas victory which has endowed Iran with a military foothold on Israel’s southwestern border. The USS Enterprise CVN 65-Big E Strike Group, the US Navy’s largest air carrier, will join the USS Stennis and the USS Nimitz carriers, building up the largest sea, air, marine concentration the United States has ever deployed opposite Iran. This goes towards making good on the assurances of four carriers US Vice President Dick Cheney offered the Gulf and Middle East nations during his May tour of the region. The “Big E” leads a strike group consisting of the guided-missile destroyers USS Arleigh Burke DDG 51, USS Stout DDG 55, Forrest Sherman DDG 98 and USS James E. Williams DDG 95, as well as the guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg CG 64, the SS Philadelphia SSN 690 nu
