The 300-km-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the fourth consecutive day today following heavy snowfall. • Highway to financial Hell
Nearly 10 million American households, or 9.2 percent, don’t have bank accounts of any kind, according to Federal Reserve data. Those folks rely on payday lenders, pawnshops, rent-to-own stores, tax-refund lenders and other high-cost, quick-cash lenders to get by each week. Thus, the reason they don’t have a bank account is not ignorance of them, but probably  [...]

What I'm listening to: Fatboy SlimWhat I'm reading: "Writing the Great American Romance Novel."What I'm eating: everything in sightWhat important thoughts am I thinking: do I do enough to help others? do I matter? do I still have that Snicker bar hidden under the couch cushion? and will anyone catch me eating it and force me to share?Sylvester Stallone has made the wise decision to NOT appear shirtless in his upcoming Rambo movie. Thank you, Sly. Now if you could have just talked some sense into Tim Allen. There was a $300 charge on my credit card that I didn't identify so I called the company. • Albany Development Company Offers Landowners 30% Above Appraisal Value To Secure Land For New Highway, And Clear The Way For Its $1.4-Billion Mixed-use Development Project To Go Full Steam Ahead
Albany-Landowners offered 30% above appraisals: By VERNON CLEMENT JONES,Senior Business Reporter, Nassau, Bahamas: EXCLUSIVE About 30 percent extra. That appears to be the final offer for land appropriated to build a public road, replacing the one Albany will soon swallow up. "They (the landowners) have been offered about 30 percent above the average appraised value of the land," said Christopher Anand, managing partner for the $1.4-billion mixed-use development project. "That's our ceiling. "We expect final arrangements will be completed by the end of the month, and as soon as this is resolved you will see Albany going full steam ahead." If Anand's reading of the tea leaves is correct, the last obstacle standing in the way of his development will have been removed. It wouldn't have happened overnight. This fly has been stuck in the ointment since late last spring when the government decided it would appropriate each of those individual lots, arguing the move in the public
  • Highway Blogging
Driving on the highway, you can see many types of vehicles in front of you. There are trucks, motor cycles, buses, vans, branded cars, cheap cars, luxurious cars or expensive cars. This is what you see in Life too. Whether you are driving on the highway or walking on the road, the [...]
  • Andrew Warner’s Road Trip and Highway Exits
Andrew Warner’s Road Trip is in full gear, as he currently approaches New Orleans.  (Hopefully, he’ll capture YouTube footage of himself arguing with the psychics at Jackson Square—assuming the Square has reassumed the identity I remember from the pre-Katrina days.) As I’ve been vicariously following his journey through his Cin-Weekly blog (the first Cin-Weekly blog I’ve ever read), I’ve been remembering some of my own experiences on the road from my younger days.  Specifically, I’ve been thinking about highway exits.

Three friends, one American, one French and one Greek are talking about the level of technology at BC ages. The first to talk is the French guy : "We digged all way across Paris and what did we found?""What?" respond the other two"Plenty of steel-made boxes and antennas - we French had VHF transmitters!!" ,he says full of cheer."Ffff" says the American, "that's nothing. We digged all the way across Washington and what did we found?""What?" respond the other two"Kilometres and kilometres of wire - we Americans had telephone way before Jesus was born!"Then the Greek guy starts laughing..."Why are you laughing mate, wtf did you Greeks have?" asked the other two"See" starts talking the Greek,"we digged all over Greece and we found NOTHING!!!""So why are you having fun of us f***er" say the other two"You stupid people",answers the Greek,"we Greeks had mobile telephony 2.500 years before!"Dedicated to a Slovenian friend of mine (you know who you are!) who is over an 10/10 Mbps XDSL connection for
  • traveling the Hershey highway
Lordy, I just can't stop with the fudge packer references. Remember that fudge thief story I posted a few weeks ago? The one that made Spongy want to run out and buy up all the chocolate fudge he could find? Well, here's a follow up.And may I just say that a one HUNDRED THOUSAND dollar bond for a chick who stole fudge is a TAD RIDICULOUS. Another thing that gets me about this story is that the fudge was UNwrapped. Now if I shoved unwrapped candy into my purse, God only knows what would be sticking to it when I pulled it out later. More than likely, a small Ethiopian kid.Even the judges can't wait to hear why a Greenbelt woman was charged with breaking into an Annapolis candy shop last month and filling her purse with fudge. "I'd love to find out what is going on," District Court Judge J. James McKenna said yesterday before slashing the bond of 35-year-old Catherine Anne Delgado and ultimately letting her out of jail. "This is more than a little bizarre."Police say Ms. Delgado brok

  • The Eyre Highway and The Great Aussie Bite.
Road Trip Day 15: 6th June 2007The last time I travelled along the Eyre Highway from South Australia to Western Australia there was no such thing as ipods. In fact Music CD's were still years away from taking over from LP records and audio cassettes. There was no such thing as a digital camera and even video recorders were just starting to hit the markets as a home consumer item. That was May of 1978 and I'd just turned eight years old.I don't remember much of the sights coming over because our families trip, back in 1978, was all about getting to Perth as quickly as possible. I think I spent a lot of the trip asleep in the back seat of the car. Most of my recollections of the journey relate to places we stopped for the night or for food on the way. This time, Rose and I are taking a little longer so we can see a few of the breath taking views we missed the first time. The Eyre Highway runs right along side the Great Australian Bight - the cliff top, bottom edge of Australia. Sometime
  • Elliston Sculptures on the Cliffs Streaky Bay, Eyre Highway.
Road Trip Day 14: 5th June 2007Before leaving Elliston, Rose decided we should take a drive around the Elliston Cliff Top Tourist Drive which also happens to be the location of the Biennial Elliston Sculptures on the Cliff Event. Unlike the sculpture parks at Broken Hill and in the Barossa Valley these cliff top sculptures aren't all permanent so the ones you see on this drive are the few permanent sculptures that have remained after each event. The tourist drive takes you along a dirt track that overlooks Anxious Bay. I wasn't entirely sure of what to expect but after seeing the view I was glad we decided to take this drive. I've lived in Australia all my life and seen these kind of 'edge of the continent' kind of views in brochures all the time but it's not often you actually get to see these views in person when you live in the cities. Just had to have my photo taken with this view to prove I was there.Along the drive you come across various sculptures left behind from the 2002
  • Mountain Railroad or Highway
What is life like? If you are over 50, then life is probably like a “mountain railroad” and you will hear the old country gospel song playing in your mind.If you are under 30, then likely you will say that life is a “highway” and you want to ride it all night long and you will hear a song by Rascal Flatts playing in your mind.If you are somewhere in between... Well, I don't know what you hear.I have become very interested in reading a fellow blogger lately. His name is Trey and he posted last week about life as a highway and it got me to thinking. If you would like to read his original post, then follow this link. I think he took the highway analogy and did a fantastic job with it. I highly recommend you check him out.I have an uncle that claims that there is sufficient theology in the old song that you can find salvation if you follow the words in the lyrics. I am not sure about that. But I think there is more to that song about the mountain railway than there is to the
