LONDON: The chicken tikka masala, adjudged Britain's national dish, may soon be out of reach to many Britons as acute staff shortage has forced many Indian restaurants to shut down across the country. The one billion pound Indian food industry is facing an acute shortage of chefs due to restrictions on employing cooks from the Indian subcontinent. Concerned over the situation, the Immigration Advisory Service (IAS), UK's largest charity providing representation and advice in immigration and asylum law, has asked the Home Office to ease restrictions on migrant workers entering Britain. In a letter to the Immigration minister Liam Byrne, the IAS said the restrictions on lower-skilled workers from outside the EU were causing a severe labour shortage that it could cause "irreparable damage" to the Indian food industry. One unconfirmed report from a resident said the target was a police station. PARIS (Reuters) - A French lawyer acting for 100 small shareholders said on Monday he had sued French Societe Generale over the way it unbundled billions of dollars in allegedly fraudulent share deals earlier this week. Frederik-Karel Canoy said the bank should have informed markets about its pending losses before embarking on a massive selling spree on Monday to Wednesday to unwind the 50 billion euros of uncovered futures positions built up by trader Jerome Kerviel. Canoy told Reuters he had also filed a separate complaint about the sale of a million shares by a SocGen director of shares on January 9 and 10, disclosed in a filing. Both complaints allege insider dealing and market manipulation, he said. A SocGen spokesmwoman said the director, Robert A. Day, had sold shares "well before" the bank became aware of alleged fraud carried out by one of its traders, leading to heavy losses. Canoy is already suing SocGen for negligence over the fraud.

I heard this one on the radio this morning. It happened in Segarcea, Romania the past weekend.It was Saturday night and Adrian, 22, was driving home from the party he attended that night, where of course, he had a couple of drinks. A big group of people were walking on the middle of the road loudly singing and yelling. They were also under the influence, as it was Saturday night. The road was covered with glazed frost and Adrian, noticing the partying crowd only the last minute, couldn't manage to avoid them.Floricel D. was hit by the drunk driver, getting seriously banged against the wind shield and flew over over the hood, landing on the the pavement. Police and an ambulance were called in and the victim was taken to the hospital right away. The doctors found Floricel in a semi-conscious state, only not because of the impact but from the huge amounts of alcohol consumed. Rising British, long-dreaded, acoustic phenomenon Newton Faulkner brought a constant stream of surprises to the Horseshoe in Toronto last night.
His lullaby-esque style and the crowd's chitter chatter was the perfect mixed sound as he mesmerized those eager to see his stage antics. His songs are sincere, honest stories that bleed sentiments and fall into the ambit of a confession.
Playing songs from his forthcoming debut, Hand Built By Robots, the babble was eventually hushed to a silence as everyone watched with rapt attention. The album's European release brought him tour buddies such as James Morrison, John Mayer and The John Butler Trio.
The song to begin the evening, "Turn Around" was the first to reveal his untouchable guitarmanship. These were also crucial moments for Faulkner as an audience is never truly satisfied with just plain musical talent. He needed to resonate and connect with them to earn respect and he did so admirably.

Ok, I may have been wrong about Obama needing NH to guarantee a win in SC.from Rasmussen:The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in South Carolina shows that Barack Obama has opened a double digit-lead over Hillary Clinton in the January 26th Primary Election. It’s Obama 42% Clinton 30%. John Edwards attracts 14% of the vote and nobody else tops 3%....In South Carolina, Obama now attracts 58% of the African-American vote, up from 50% in December. Earlier in the year, Obama and Clinton split this important constituency fairly evenly. Now while Obama enjoys a 2-to-1 advantage over Clinton among African-American voters, white voters are split fairly evenly between three candidates--it’s Clinton 32%, Edwards 29%, and Obama 27%. For Obama, that reflects a 13-point improvement from the previous survey. I do think a Clinton win in NH could make SC a tight race between the two.
