Apparently - and despite my interest in both David Weber's Honor Harrington series, and MMOs, this managed to sneak past me until now - there's going to be an game called something like Honorverse: an Honor Harrington MMO.The website, unfortunately, does not fill me with hope. Of the logos at the bottom, Baen, Weber's publisher, is the only one I recognise. The site itself looks like it was built with care and attention, in 1998. And then there's the direction the game is taking - instead of playing a starship captain or crew member, you play the leader of a Star Nation.
I've a number of issues with that approach. First and foremost, the books focus on starships and tactics, and that's what people's interest in the setting is focussed on. A game wherein you found a star nation is an odd diversion from that. Second, part of the appeal of the books is getting to know the geography and history of a broad, deep setting, and having your part of the action explicitly take place outside tha
EA Offers Refund for Medal of Honor's Absent Online Play EA is offering a refund to anyone who purchased the Wii version of Medal of Honor Heroes 2 in Australia who was disappointed to learn that the game lacks online functionality. EA removed the online play from the game and, oopsie, kind of forgot to mention it to anyone, including the folks who designed the game's cover, which indicated that online was an included feature. So did the instruction manual. So did EA's website. EA admitted the documentation errors, apologized for any confusion their mistake may have created for consumers, and offered to give folks their money back. All of which is exactly the right thing to do, but why'd they take the online out in the first place? To prove that good can come from bad, I thought I would revisit a tragic and brutal event that took place approx three years ago in Turkey. Back in 2004 a young Turkish mother Güldünya Tören was murdered by her brothers in what the media still insists on calling an ‘honor killing,’ when in reality such acts can only bring dishonor to all who commit or acquiesce to them. Güldünya Tören who came from the south-east of Turkey was raped by a relation and became pregnant, but understandably refused to marry the man who impregnated her.
