From Think Progress:
This morning, CNN ran a story “tracking the strain furious campaigning puts on the human body” for the presidential candidates. During the segment, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee joked that his campaign schedule is not providing enough time to sleep and that, for him, is “like being waterboarded”:

If I approved of violence against anyone at this site besides that Osama bin Forgotten guy, I would say that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia deserves a head slap or two (or three) for these observations noted here…(Scalia) said Tuesday that some physical interrogation techniques could be used on a suspect in the event of an imminent threat, like a hidden bomb about to blow up.In such cases, “smacking someone in the face” could be justified, Justice Scalia told the British Broadcasting Corporation. He added, “You can’t come in smugly and with great self-satisfaction and say, ‘Oh, it’s torture, and therefore it’s no good.’ ”I’ll tell you what, Your Honor; stop watching "24" for awhile and take a look instead at this article from The Washington Post, in particular this excerpt...When it comes to torture, however, the handbook advised that "the threat to inflict pain . . . can trigger fears more damaging than the immediate sensation of pain.""In general, direct p

Okay...I realize that headline is a bit misleading. No, Tyra Banks did not shit herself when she hung with Mike Huckabee. It was Huckabee who shit himself. He was like, "God damn, I knew there were some dumb fuckers in this world, but this bitch ought to get a medal."How dumb is Tyra Banks? Dumb enough to vote for Mike Huckabee. But now onto the shitting part. Apparently, Tyra is prone to accidents of the ill-timed bowel-voiding type. An account from some reporter for Paper Magazine:I arranged to do [the interview] backstage at the tents in the w suite. Just when I start getting comfortable and ready, a group of madmen and madwomen storm in and take possession of the suite because... ready?... Tyra Banks messed herself and needed to change. Now, let's break this down: messing oneself should not happen if you are older that 5 or younger than 90. if it happens and in fact you are older than 5 or younger that 90, then it should be one, single, very unfortunate episode which will boun
I've been thinking about what would happen if Mike Huckabee won the Presidency and really did change the Constitution to "God's Laws". One thing for sure, the rock business would get a big boost!According to the Bible, God prescribes stoning for all kinds of offenses. Here are a few examples: (I actually copied this list from one of my favorite Atheist resources called, Dwindling In Unbelief. I hope Steve doesn't mind.)1.For touching Mount Sinai Exodus 19:13 2.For taking "accursed things" Joshua 7:1-26 3.For cursing or blaspheming Leviticus 24:16 4.For adultery (including urban rape victims who fail to scream loud enough) Deuteronomy 22:23-24 5.For animals (like an ox that gores a human) Exodus 21:28 6.For a woman who is not a virgin on her wedding night Deuteronomy 22:13-21 7.For worshipping other gods Deuteronomy 17:2-5 8.For preaching the wrong religion Deuteronomy 13:5-10 9.For disobeying parents Deuteronomy 21:18-21 10.For witches and wizards Leviticus 20:27 11.For givi
There are 12 years of wacko sermons by Huckabee somewhere, which could well leak, and most ordinary Americans will be completely turned off by the weird assertions in them.
Democratic oppo research already probably has all of them, researched and cross-indexed, ready to go.
Most the states McCain has been winning are states that go Democratic in the general election. So, McCain is actually even weaker than his anemic numbers show. Couple that with Huckabee’s unexpected strength and the Republican race seems to be still in flux.
Could someone explain why the hard right and libertarians loathe McCain? I genuinely [...]

I haven't seen anything official yet. I get email updates from Hunter's campaign and haven't received one with an endorsement, so my head hasn't exploded yet. If it is official, I'm staying home election day. If he did endorse Huckabee, it's quite perplexing on why he would. Huckabee will be out of the race within the next month, he's broke, so I cannot see any reasoning (VP, cabinet position) to endorse him. Huckabee has only a few Conservative values. Maybe Hunter thought Huckabee was better than the remaining candidates? I would have to disagree. I'm not endorsing anyone here, but if someone held a gun to my head and forced me to vote, it would be for Romney. I just threw up in my mouth with that statement, but such is the state of the Republican party. I suppose the endorsement could be just because Huckabee was a nice guy, which I don't doubt. It's his policies I disagree with. It looks more and more like a Romney/McCain or McCain/Romney ticket. I'm sure they could beat the Democ
Over at The Politico Jonathan Martin posits that Huckabee is running for VP and is in fact running interference for McCain by intentionally locking up the Social Conservative vote. From The Politico:COLUMBIA, S.C. — For people reading between the lines, Mike Huckabee’s concession speech here Saturday night dropped some enticing hints that his presidential campaign now has an agenda other than getting elected president. Huckabee’s new role: Mitt killer. The former Arkansas governor threw air kisses on primary night to winner John McCain, praising him for “running a civil and a good and a decent campaign.”He also signaled clearly that he is staying in the race, despite losing three straight states. Exit polls in South Carolina indicated — as they had in the previous three contests — that Huckabee did virtually nil with voters beyond his base of conservative evangelicals, raising doubts that he has a plausible path to the GOP nomination. But as long as Huckabee is campaigning

As our readers know, we have been following the story about Mike Huckabee’s ties to people like Bill Gothard. Now, Salon has covered the story. Check it out!
There are political slanderers and there are political panderers in American poliitics, Mike Huckabee certainly should be awarded an Oscar for his recent mud slinging episode in South Carolina. The Arkansas traveler has decided the critical issue confronting the people of South Carolinia is not the collapse of the stock market or the housing crisis, [...]
Read Mike Huckabee’s January 14 statement on the Constitution, his interpretation of God, and his political agenda. Read it very carefully:

Looks like he's shed his populist image for a more comfortable Christianist one. From Raw Story:The United States Constitution never uses the word "God" or makes mention of any religion, drawing its sole authority from "We the People." However, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee thinks it's time to put an end to that. "I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."Of course the odds of him being elected POTUS and then getting such an agenda past a Democrat controlled House and Senate are infinitesimal.Meanwhile over at Donklephant Justin Gardner declares Huckabee done for. I beg to differ. Given the possibility of Clin

The Huckabee-Gothard story inches its way into print.
Yesterday, the Falls-Church News Press featured a print story (also hosted online here) about GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, asking whether he is a closeted stoner. Turns out that was just a gimmick to get people reading the article, which really features a round-up of Huckabee’s ties to Christian dominionists, like Bill Gothard—a connection we have been reporting for several weeks.
This story tells us the following…A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit by journalists seeking to open executions to more scrutiny, saying there was no guaranteed right to see the whole process, including the strapping-down of the condemned inmate and the insertion of needles.U.S. District Court Judge Susan Webber Wright rejected the journalists' argument the public had a First Amendment right to see every step of an execution in Arkansas. In her ruling issued Monday, Wright also noted that executions have “moved from the public square to inside prison walls,” an area where the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled reporters have no special right to access.…A case before the U.S. Supreme Court focuses on a three-drug cocktail used by 37 states, claiming the condemned could suffer intense pain without being able to cry out. That pending case in effect stopped executions in Arkansas and other states until a ruling by justices. If I could, I would ask Huckabee whether or not he thought this wa
Cross posted from Right TruthHouse speaker unveils plan to curb illegal immigration in SC (hat tip Mary Chamberlain and Alipac) NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. --House Republican leaders unveiled an immigration reform plan Monday that would bill the federal government for the cost of detaining illegal immigrants and prevent illegals from attending any public college. "I've heard a loud message from South Carolinians all over the state and they are overwhelmingly saying we need to do something," said House Speaker Bobby Harrell, who estimated 75,000 illegal immigrants in the state. However, the number of illegal immigrants is difficult to determine. The latest Census estimate puts South Carolina's Hispanic and Latino population at roughly 130,000. Advocates say it's probably more than three times that number. Changes to the state's immigration laws have failed to pass the Legislature in recent years. "We believe the time is now - that the public has made it very clear they want this deal
I keep pointing out Huckabee reminds me of Bill Clinton and now we can add lying to the list...From The Washington Times:Mike Huckabee yesterday contradicted his own top immigration surrogate, announcing he will not support a constitutional amendment to end birthright citizenship for children born in the United States to illegal aliens. It was a stark reversal after The Washington Times reported that James Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project, said Mr. Huckabee promised to pursue an amendment to the Constitution. In an article in yesterday's editions, Mr. Huckabee's spokeswoman did not challenge the former Arkansas governor's statements to Mr. Gilchrist and said the two men shared the same goals on immigration. But by yesterday afternoon, Mr. Huckabee had backed away from that position."I do not support an amendment to the Constitution that would prevent children born in the U.S. to illegal aliens from automatically becoming American citizens. When Mike Huckabee’s fortunes were rising, he attributed his success to a prayer campaign by his supporters and the subsequent intercession of God on his behalf:

I just sent off my absentee ballot today, and yes, I am on the Obamawagon it seems. The funny thing is that when you look at the list of names of Democrats running, all in one little tiny list, with no color and no sound clips, Obama is (here we go again) the lesser of the evils. So there you have it.But this post is about Huckabee. I just can't stop thinking about that dude. He's whacky and loveable. (If you missed him on Leno, here's one and two.)The reason I like Huckabee is that he's the only one who will talk to me. Back in September, I sent off a list of 4 questions to each presidential candidate. All sent automated responses, a few came back with "sorry no time" standards, written by real people, and ALL of the democrats simply added my email address to their spamming lists. I now get six to eight emails daily from Obama and Edwards (combined) and an occasional one from Hillary. But only one dude actually answered my questions. That's right: Huckabee. They were answered through
I am very into this election of watching everything I can with learning about candidates. I am independent voter who will be voting for a democrat in the election of 2008. On the democratic side, I am not sure whom I will vote for I like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. I am very interested in both sides of the race with candidates is important to watch. I am surprised by winner of republican Mike Huckabee had less money than most yet he came out ahead. It just shows it takes more than a bunch of money to win at a caucus. The winner for democrats was Barack Obama I am happy for him I have to admit he does have something special about him. Many people have said he reminds them of John F Kennedy. I agree Obama has that something special can’t explain with words but know something is so great about him. Now onto New Hampshire Caucus. - Shop Political T-Shirts and More at CafePress
In the Republican Primary, the 7NEWS/Suffolk University poll shows Romney (30 percent) leading McCain (27 percent), followed by Rudy Giuliani (10 percent), Ron Paul (9 percent), Mike Huckabee (7 percent), Fred Thompson (2 percent) and Duncan Hunter (1 percent). Twelve percent were undecided. Paul is now polling ahead of Iowa Caucus winner Huckabee.

Mike Huckabee's momentum coming out of Iowa has, so far counted for nothing. Not one county convention has voted him a delegate yet. Neither has the so-called Ron Paul Revolution managed to translate itself into the ballot box. After coming in a pathetic 5th place in Iowa, Ron Paul has no delegates from the Wyoming caucuses. Likewise, Rudolph Giuliani has gotten nothing from the Wyoming caucuses so far. Of course, Wyoming is far from New York City, but a presidential candidate can't win just from delegates in New York anyway.
One must wonder at Mike Huckabee’s connections to Bill Gothard, combined with his love of playing a ROCK BEAT on the bass guitar. Here is YouTube footage of Hucakbee sinning with “Freebird.”
Mike Huckabee reminds me the rhetoric that George Wallace used to use. Wallace used to say that he represented the hayseeds, the know-nothings, the outsiders, the working class. When I hear Huckabee talk about his roots and big business I

Well, on the Dem side, Dodd, Biden and Richardson are toast. Hillary Rotten Clinton has been hit with a serious blow and as I have stated previously she is not a sure thing; I have been proven right. We need to see what happens in New Hampshire next week to make sense of where the top three sit. If Clinton does not make a comeback in NH, she will have a real hard time pulling out a win. aslthough she does have the money for thew long haul and I think she will stay in it to the end unless she just never gets out of third place. The Republican side is a different story. everyone is still in it. I thought Paul might have done better
It's often been pointed out that the Democrats aren't running against George W. Bush in 2008. However, if Iowa is an indication, they may be running against someone even more dangerous. Mike Huckabee has a combination of ignorance, corrpution and ideological extremism that would make him an even worse President than Bush.

Progressives believe that the United States was born through the American Revolution and the establishment of the Constitution. Right wingers like John Hagee believe that all it took to create the United States was a prayer and a cross planted in the sand. If you vote for John McCain and Mike Huckabee in 2008, you're voting for the cross-in-the-sand vision of the birth of America.
the McCain for President campaign began openly courting the support of John Hagee and his cadre of right wing supporters. McCain announced that he would make a surprise speech before Hagee's pro-Armageddon organization, Christians United for Israel. John Hagee introduced John McCain himself, and then the two men hugged, signaling political allegiance.
Mike Huckabee has said that he thinks that right wing extremist John Hagee is "one of the great Christian leaders of our nation." Hagee, in turn, has spoken quite freely about how Christian beliefs should be applied by the U.S. federal government. On the subject of international affairs, for example, Hagee says that the U.S. government ought to let terrorists organized by God dictate American foreign policy
Mike Huckabee's plans to transform the American borders into a tool of ethnic and cultural purification are based on ignorant and mean-spirited assumptions. Mike Huckabee has demonstrated once again that he has no business becoming President of the United States.
Mike Huckabee might as well be talking about a threat from angry goblins crossing American borders as ranting on about Pakistanis in the United States with shoulder-fired missiles. Both are equally imaginary.

Dear Dr. Gothard:
For the past couple years, my colleague, the Dean of Cincinnati, has been writing articles about you and your various enterprises. Before then I’d never even heard of you, your institute, your “character-building" seminars, your unaccredited medical school, your unaccredited law school, your nursing program, your Children’s Institute, your bible-centered paramilitary boot camp, your music school, your culinary arts program, your Institute of Photographic Studies, your resort-style training center in Guadalajara, your upholstery training program, your hair design program, etc. As you know, I’m just scratching the surface - the list keeps just on going and according to this 2006 In These Times cover story, The Cult of Character, business is booming:
Mike Huckabee destroyed a lot of the evidence of what happened behind the scenes in the Huckabee term as Governor. Just before Huckabee left the Governor's mansion, he arranged the destruction of the Arkansas government computers that he and his administration had used. Huckabee used money from the state emergency fund to have the hard drives from 90 computers crushed so that the information on them could never be retrieved.

When Mike Huckabee calls John Hagee "one of the great Christian leaders of our nation", Huckabee is declaring that foreign policy based on conspiracy theories about satanic influence on the European Union are just the ticket for the USA. Remember that Mike Huckabee is running for President on the basis of his own status as a Christian leader. Thus John Hagee's eccentric ramblings about Satan's impact on American foreign policy can be seen as at the core of Mike Huckabee's plan for the White House, if he should win it.
