  • HUNTING FOR UNUSUAL ANIMALS
Though part of a record label, the Unusual Animals here at Asthmatic Kitty have always leaned heavily on the sense of sight. That is now more true than ever, as we begin a very special hunt. We are partnering with the 930 Art Center in Louisville, Kentucky to craft a gallery exhibition as a visual compendium to a party/showcase of Louisville musical talent.  The Unusual Animals Louisville party and gallery opening will take place on April 5th, with the gallery show running until May 27th.We are asking for submissions to an exhibit appropriately titled Unusual Animals. Favored pieces of work will depict unusual animals from nature, or the imagination of the artist. Two hundred dollars will go to best in show, as well as a $100 second place award. The deadline for submissions is March 15, so you have some time - but don't take too long. We are anxious to see what the kinds of creatures inhabit the recesses of your imaginations and backyards. • Discovery of hunting tools turns back clock for ancient English city by 10,000 years
Archaeologists have found hunting tools at the site of a new shopping centre in the ancient town of Bath in England, that extends the history of the city thousands of years further back.   The discoveries were made while a new sewer was being dug at the site.   According to a report in Western Daily Press, this discovery, consisting of flint tools found in alluvial deposits at the site, is the first evidence of human activity near the banks of the River Avon.   These findings date back to 8,000 BC, which is before any kind of recorded history and even before the idea of farming had reached the British Isles.   The first Bathonians were hunter- gatherers, following herds of deer and other game along the river valley, attracted by the hot springs and the plentiful fish in the River Avon, the report said.   According to Bath and North East Somerset archaeologist Richard Sermon, on the spot where people would later settle and use the hot springs, the first Bathonia

  • The Truth About Hunting
Over at The American Thinker they have a highly interesting interview with Frank Miniter a senior editor of Outdoor Life magazine and also the executive editor of American Hunter magazine who recently wrote The Politically Incorrect Guide to Hunting. In the interview he addresses some of the most common myths about hunting:Miniter: Many nonhunters think hunters are simply bloodthirsty. I dare any nonhunter who feels that way to go to a hunting club, lodge, or hunting show and meet hunters, or simply to read a hunting magazine. If they do they'll find that hunters care deeply about our natural resources. I'm a bird-watcher, hiker, kayaker, wildlife photographer, and yes, hunter.Another underlying myth about hunting is that if you don't hunt, eat meat, or wear leather products you are somehow beyond reproach. This myth falls apart when you realize that every farmer-and this goes double for small organic farms-has to control wildlife populations lethally in order to have crops left to h

  • Went Squirrel Hunting Today
All you PETA freaks rest easy. I didn't see a single squirrel. It's was a bad day from beginning to end. I had assumed the rain would stay south of us. It didn't. No sooner did I park my truck and get the gear ready, a thunderstorm popped up. So I waited to see if it would slow down. It didn't. So we went to a restaurant and had some dinner before going back out. The rain did stop for a period of time. The area we were hunting was recently flooded out, thus still had standing water, thus had thousands of mutant mosquitos. These mosquitos were not ordinary. When they bit, it felt like a needle. It wasn't a minor inconvenience, they hurt. Combine that with the now very humid air and it felt like we were in the Amazon rainforest. Maybe next week. Those tree-rats can't evade me forever.

I’m aware that most real estate agents make their money off of the commission of the sale. Obviously, the seller and the buyer of the property are basically paying the salary of the real estate agent. What if the buyer were to only have to pay a flat fee, instead of a percent of the sell? Could you, the buyer, imagine working with an agent that isn’t pressed to make the sell because they don’t work on commission?! Just check out Territory Real Estate. Its just as easy as any other real estate web page I’ve looked at, and can save you a ton of money!

  • Review: Deer Hunting With Jesus
Joe Bageant grew up redneck in Winchester Virginia, escaped to the city, became a “godless commie,” moved back thirty years later, and wrote this book about it. It’s subtitled “Dispatches from America’s Class War.” He looks at the people that he grew up with, and most are in debt way beyond their means, have serious health problems, and have been grinding away for 30-40 years at a no-future job that pays next to nothing. The redneck class helped put George Bush in the White House, but have gotten screwed to the walls by the Republicans and elites all their lives. So how, Bageant asks, did this happen? Because the Democratic Party stopped caring about them, that’s why. That left a void the Republican Party promptly filled. Yes Virginia, there was a time the Democratic Party stood for the working class, for minorities and the poor, for unions, but those days are long gone. Bageant thinks the Democrats cluelessly and stupidly stopped trying to ap
  • Hunting for a mortgage?
As ‘yall know I’m in the process of remortgaging our place back in the UK and have been hunting around for a decent offer. Whilst there are a fair number of sites out there which offer best-buy lists they usually aren’t overlly useful to me. For a start, our property is in Northern Ireland which rules out a whole range of mortgages, then it’s a buy to let mortgage and to cap it all, it needs to be on the basis of self-certification of income. Net effect? Well, the aforementioned best-buy lists are pretty much useless and a mortgage broker is definitely the way to go. Mortgages are on offer by a range of brokers with a number of them specialising in the buy to let market, itself quite a specialist niche. If you’re planning on building up a property empire you usually need a bit of advice on this front at the outset: should you set up a company to own your properties for instance? Anyway, all being well, we’ll not be remortgaging again for a while, t
  • Deer Hunting with Jesus. Dispatches from America’s Class War
From a review by Gordon Coale Deer Hunting with Jesus looks at the now and trembles for the future. I first ran across Joe Bageant on the internet. Aside from being a hell of a writer, a veritable silver tongued devil, what he was writing about struck a chord. Joe writes about the working class poor, the redneck class. He does it not as an outsider. These are his people. He grew up with them, escaped, went to college, and became a pinko atheist. Then he went back home to Winchester, Virginia. He has a liberal perspective but his heart is with these people. And they are getting screwed. If they only realized it. The media would like us to think it’s Red State vs. Blue State. It’s a magic trick, folks. An illusion. It’s a false dichotomy. The class war, and don’t delude yourself that it isn’t a war, is not between liberal white collar workers and conservative blue collar workers. It’s not between those that drink Red Hook ESB and those that drink Bud
  • Gere and Howard in The Hunting Party Trailer
Richard Gere has been on a bit of a roll. His upcoming film The Flock sounds intriguing (if you want a sneak peek check out the teaser here) and he was surprisingly good earlier this year in The Hoax and now we have a first look at another Gere flick coming later this year. The Hunting Party (formerly known as Spring Break in Bosnia) a young journalist, a camera man and an old bird who needs to revive his career head off in search of the number one war criminal in Bosnia. If that’s not bad enough, things really head south when the trio is mistaken for a CIA hit squad. The film, which is was written and directed by Richard Shepard (of The Matador fame) stars Richard Gere as the old journalist, Jesse Eisenberg as the young up-and-comer and Terrence Howard as the cameraman. Having not yet seen The Matador I’m not sure how well Shepard balances the action/comedy/reality story and I’m not sure if it really works here. The trailer starts off on a comedic sort of footing but the ser
  • Strategies for easier house hunting
House shopping can be fun … but it can also be intimidating for those who are new to the experience. There are many factors to consider when looking to purchase a home - from what neighborhood to which floor plan and much more. We suggest focusing on four key factors when looking to buy a house: 1. Location, location, location. A house needs to be near what’s important to you and your lifestyle. How important is it to you that your home is close to your office? Is it more important to you that you’re close to a good medical center or a convenient grocery store? Everyone has their priorities, and you have to consider your family’s when thinking about location. 2. Accommodation. Does the floor plan meet your needs? Does it have enough room for your family to grow if future growth is in your plans? Think of buying for the long term and consider whether the house meets your needs, not just now, but any future needs you can anticipate. And don’t discount your
