  • US intel links Iran with nuke bomb bid
Over the past two years, the U.S. already has shared material on a laptop computer reportedly smuggled out of Iran. In 2005, U.S. intelligence assessed that information as indicating that Tehran had been working on details of nuclear weapons, including missile trajectories and ideal altitudes for exploding warheads. After declassification, U.S. intelligence also was forwarded on two other issues: the "Green Salt Project" — a plan the U.S. alleges links diverse components of a nuclear weapons program, including uranium enrichment, high explosives testing and a missile re-entry vehicle — and material in Iran's possession showing how to mold uranium metal into warhead form.Iran's new generation of advanced centrifuges have begun processing small quantities of the gas that can be used to make the fissile core of nuclear warheads.

  • Intel's Skulltrail D5400XS's workstation
Skulltrail. If you hang around these parts, you've been hearing that codename bandied about for the better part of a year now. Not only does it have the distinction of being, quite probably, the single coolest codename known to all of geekdom, but it's also attached to the sort of hardware required to back up the copious bravado it implies. You see, Skulltrail is a high-end desktop PC platform based on workstation-class chips taken from Intel's Xeon parts shelf. We're talking about some wicked numbers here, such as dual sockets, eight cores, four graphics card slots, and dual 1600MHz front-side buses with a total of 25.6GB/s of bandwidth.Of course, Xeon-based workstations have long sported impressive stats, but they've rarely set PC hobbyists' hearts aflutter for various reasons. Chief among them: buttoned-down motherboards with very little tweakability, foreign expansion options, and limited feature sets. We ran into these problems when we reviewed Intel's powerful-yet-frustrating V8
  • The ' Extreme' Intel P35 Express DDR3 Motherboard
Asus has had a lot of interesting motherboard offerings even since the P4P 800 series, which is flawlessly running on one of my test shuttle for three years now. Of all Asus' motherboard products, the Blitz line distinguishes the most by increased performance and state-of-the-art technology. The Blitz series is dedicated to computer enthusiasts that price speed and performance most, at any price it may come. The new motherboard family from Asus is comprised of two mobos: the Asus BLITZ Extreme and the Asus BLITZ Formula. Both of them are absolutely identical, except for the fact that the Formula only supports DDR2 memory, while the Extreme edition comes with DDR3 support. The rest is unchanged, including the cooling system, the chipset or the CPU socket. The Asustek Extreme is built with Intel's P35 series of chipsets with the P35 Express northbridge and the ICH9R Southbridge. It can recognize as much as 8 GB or DDR3 RAM clocked at 1333/1066/800 MHz. Since it is a professional motherboar
  • Intel's Core 2 Duo E8400
What do you get when you take Intel's Core 2 Duo E6850 processor but make it faster, cooler-running, and about $60 cheaper? Simple: you get the Core 2 Duo E8400, which seems to be the first of Intel's new line of 45nm desktop chips to have rolled into the e-tail market. Newegg currently sells the E8400 for $219.99 with free shipping, so we've selected it for our deal of the week.Like the E6850, the Core 2 Duo E8400 runs at 3GHz with a 1333MHz front-side bus and a 65W thermal envelope. However, the E8400 is manufactured using 45nm process technology instead of 65nm, has 6MB of cache instead of 4MB, and features some architectural improvements (including support for the new SSE4 instruction set) that help it perform better clock-for-clock than its predecessor. If you need a speedy processor but can't afford to spend an extra $60 for the Core 2 Quad Q6600, or you're eager to see how far you can overclock Intel's new 45nm core, this chip should be a fine choice. Make sure to double-check m
  • Gigabyte launching power-saving Intel motherboards
Desktop processors have had power-regulation features for some time now, allowing them to scale clock speeds and voltages depending on loads. But what about motherboards? With its new Dynamic Energy Saver motherboards, Gigabyte has sought to carry that concept over into the motherboard world. The Dynamic Energy Saver line includes three models based on Intel's X48 Express chipset, one based on the X38 Express chipset, and ten based on the P35 Express. A complete list is available in Gigabyte's press release. All 14 models feature a combination of hardware and software that allows the motherboard to dynamically switch power phases depending on processor load. The unique multi-gear power phase design of GIGABYTE's Dynamic Energy Saver allows for the most efficient switching of power phases depending on CPU workload. When the CPU workload is light or at idle, the Dynamic Energy Saver downshifts gears and only allows the minimum required power phases needed to accomplish the task to op

  • Mini Laptop for Students: Intel Classmate PC
With a 7-inch display and solid-state hard drive, the Intel Classmate PC is clearly designed to withstand greater wear and tear, with a thick ruggedized plastic shell. While the Classmate isn't currently available to individual consumers, the technologies reflected here will likely filter down to consumer systems, leading to cheaper, smaller laptops for everyone, although likely not directly from Intel, which wants to stay out of the system-selling business. This mini laptop shares many physical traits with the $399 Linux-based Asus Eee PC. The Classmate starts at $225, and for around $350, you can get one set up like our review unit, preloaded with Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003--both software packages specially configured to fit onto the tiny 2GB flash hard drive. The Classmate PC looks more like a toy than a laptop computer, with a thick, plastic chassis with rounded corners that's designed to keep important parts far from the outer edges of the machine. • Intel's 45 nm Penryn CPU: 4 GHz Air Cooled
Rarely have things looked as good for Intel as they do right now. Exactly 18 months after the introduction of Intel's highly successful Core 2 CPUs, the chipmaker is updating them. It is shrinking the structures from 65 nm to 45 nm (Penryn refers to Intel's new family of 45 nm CPUs, dual and quad core), and is already preparing the next step: the transition to the Nehalem platform. However, that's all still in the future, and won't come to pass until the end of 2008 at the earliest. The revision of the Conroe architecture - in order to boost its performance, incorporate new instructions, and, most importantly, reduce power consumption - is right on schedule. Until now, Intel's Core 2 processors always played second fiddle to AMD's Athlon 64 X2 processors when it came to power consumption, at least in idle operation. That was also the reason why we built our Solar-Powered PC around an AMD platform. However, this situation has changed with the Penryn core of Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX
  • Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770
Only three weeks ago, Intel unveiled its 45 nm fabrication technology in the shape of the Penryn processor. However, the only model available at launch was the Extreme Edition model QX9650. Since the Extreme Edition models have always come in at just under $1,470, the energy efficient 45 nm technology will remain out of reach for most users. In other words, for now there will be no revolution in the mass market. As we were gearing up to cover the launch of AMD's highly anticipated Phenom quad-core processor, we received an email with the following information (our paraphrase). Intel is planning to unveil a new 45 nm processor with the designation Core 2 Extreme QX9770. This new part will become available in the first quarter of 2008. Furthermore, Intel informed us that we should simulate this new CPU using the QX9650 in or lab, as it wouldn't be distributing any review samples, since none exist yet. This is the first time in recent memory that Intel is introducing a new processor

The Cyberjaya office was opened in 2001, which was supporting the Intel’s software development operations. Try to look at the response from one of its manager where I highlighted from online resources:“Intel, like any other large company, continuously optimizes its resources globally in line with our business needs. We do not discuss the specifics of any action we may take by country or business unit. Our commitment to Malaysia remains strong and Malaysia remains to be very important to Intel.”However, some said that the Cyberjaya operations will be consolidated to Intel sites in Penang or Kedah. So, this is considered a bad news or good news to you? The only thing I can confirm is, our MSC project is having another
