If you’re considering investing outside your own country whether it be in shares or in property you need to consider the interest rate in that country relative to your own and the echange rate with your own currency.
The two tend to be linked and can rarely be considered totally in isolation. If you consider relatively stable [...]
Art as an investment avenue has been considered an interesting and profitable alternative, but it is also extremely risky. With uncertain stock market returns and interest rates at their lowest in decades, nervous investors are now considering alternative investment avenues. Some of them are hoping to find solace in alternative investments such as fine art, wine and even stamps. These alternative investments' performance is alluring. Indices tracking the performance of high-class art have held up well in the recent economic slowdown, while art-auction houses report record prices.Art as an object of investment has been debated for long. However, in the age of 20% returns on stock markets and a long bull market, the concept of art as an investment option was passed over. But the corporate scandals, stock market losses and low interest rates have helped it to re-emerge. In one of the niost prominent examples of art investing, British Rail pension fund invested 2.9% of its portfolio in the 19
Investing in foreign currencies is a relatively new avenue of investing. There are considerably fewer people are aware of this market than there are people aware of several other avenues of investing. Trading foreign currency, also known as forex, is the most lucrative investment market that exists. There are several factors that make this true among which, successful forex traders earn realistic profits of one hundred plus percent each month. Compared to some of the better known investment markets such as corporate stocks, this is an unheard of return on investment. It's very necessary to mention here that a person who invests in forex must, without exception, make it a point to learn the detailed, but simple strategies and information surrounding the market. This very fact is what makes the difference between successful forex traders and other traders.A few additional points, which create such powerful leverage for investors within the forex market are: The amount of capital required
Penny stocks are shares that trade in stock markets from a fraction of a penny up to several dollars. They are much riskier than the average investments, but sometimes can have a rewarding potential. Indeed, a few penny stocks have gone from i.e. 20 cents to $10.00, while others have become completely worthless. Many investors like penny stocks because it does not take a big cash outlay to get started. The upside of penny stocks is the ability to turn a small investment into a "fortune."The downside is the greater risk, big volatility of the shares, and the total lack of corporate transparency. There are many risks associated with trading penny stocks. In many cases these risks can be mitigated or avoided altogether, but there is always a great chance of losing money.Never buy penny stocks that you heard about for free:By far, the biggest danger to penny stock investors is free stock picks. They come by phone, through e-mail spam, and even by fax. In many cases, a carefully crafted and fos

Who wants to know about real estate investing. Well I'm among those who have experiences to share, some good and some not so good. Real estate investing can be a tool or vice toward aquiring income generating assets. Like anything worth having, one must be williing to make the necessary sacrifice to attain what is most desired. As a Realtor, I come in contact with alot of investors. I meet many investors who previously purchased properties without using a Realtor. Below are one investors true real life experiences. He became a licensed loan officer in 03. Along with becoming a loan officer, he had aspirations of becoming a real estate investor. He just knew he could make money as an investor. As a loan officer, he learned the different investor loan programs, and he came in contact with other investors which he could learn from or that could mentor him toward taking the next step. He was introduced to an investor through a friend that was interested in and actually investing in real es
by Robert KiyosakiA few days ago, a reporter asked me if I was losing money in real estate. My reply was, "No, I'm making money." Confused, he asked, "How can you be making money during the subprime disaster?" I explained that since the real estate market took a downturn, there were more people renting rather than buying, which is great for my apartment business. I also informed him that I'm raising rents since demand for affordable apartments is so high. When someone moves out, I increase the rent and new tenants line up, which means my cash flow is increasing. He then asked, "Are you looking for new investments?"A shocked look came over his face when I said, "I've been investing heavily in the stock market since August 2007. I've moved several million dollars into the market.""The stock market?" he stammered. "Stocks are crashing. Why are you in the stock market? Besides, I thought you were a real estate investor?"Ignorance Isn't BlissAs Warren Buffett has said, it's important for so
A lot of investors go about their investments in an illogical way. They are given a tip from their broker on basis of some rumor or news. They impulsively buy the scrip and afterwards wonder why they bought the stock.Such Behavior is foolish and must be avoided. The moment you receive a tip on a stock, confirm the news on Reuters or other business websites. The news, if any, will be on these sites; be it dividend payoffs, announcements, earnings, corporate move to buy another company, fight of top management or any other news.Broadly one should abide by following guidelines:-1. Business of CompanyBuy stocks of only those businesses that you understand. Once you have bought a stock, keep watch on quarterly results of that company and also keep watch on the general trend in the sector of that stock.2. Study the past performanceAll companies present particulars of their fiscal operation in their yearly reports. Study their past performance and then invest.3. Know the promotersThe Manageme

These days solving a financial problem these days is no longer a thing to be pestered about. The upcoming of n number of financial solutions in the form of loans and loan schemes have been able to create a marked difference in people. Today, they no longer feel tensed because they know that they have a regular income in the form of salary and if they have any financial emergency, they can take the help of any financial program. However, in all this, we simply forget about all the people who no longer have their job, as they have retired from their job and could be in dire need of money. In such cases, these senior citizens definitely feel out of place and feel completely helpless. However, the initiation that has been taken up by some organizations to introduce plans and financial schemes like life settlement has been able to give a sense of relief to these senior citizens. Therefore, we can surely say that investing in life settlement could prove to be a beneficial move for the senior

Why group real estate investing? History has proven again and again that the people who thrive are the ones who work together. Have you ever considered the power of working together to invest with a group? If you haven't, I'm going to enlighten you as to a number of reasons why you should consider investing in a group, and explain a few of the many benefits of group investing.Group real estate investing can maximize financial leverage. What do I mean by this?Think about what happens when you put ten percent down, or $30,000 cash, on a single family house and you receive a loan for ninety percent of the purchase price of $300,000…in effect you just leveraged your money TEN times to control an asset worth (if you bought right that is) at least TEN times the money you used to control it.That $270,000 loan, the other ninety percent of the money used to own the property, was OPM- or "other people's money". Maybe you got it from a bank, or a mortgage lender, maybe even from a private lender,
We live in a world that offers temptations at every turn. It is easy to ruin a great thing as the result of greed. However, if you are careful from the beginning you can establish your real estate investment business in a manner that encourages and even rewards altruism rather than breeding an environment that is ripe for greed to take hold. The problem with real estate is that in order to get the really good deals we sometimes have to be a little ‘unfeeling’. That doesn’t mean that you can’t be compassionate or identify with the feelings of those selling their homes, particularly if they are at risk of losing their homes and/or any equity they may have had in their homes. At the same time you must harden your heart to some degree in order to get the best value for your money. This isn’t to say that you should ever forget that there are real people on the other side of those numbers who have not only a financial investment in their homes (when you are making a purchase) but al
Just as you would plan to have a diversified stock portfolio it is also in your best interest to have a somewhat diverse portfolio of investments when it comes to real estate. You do not want to have all your stocks in one company or even one industry if you are hoping to spread out your risk and maximize your earning potential. With that in mind, why on earth would you want to do that with real estate investing? This is a huge question when it comes to real estate, which is one of the more versatile investment options a person can find in the world today. With so many options, each carrying their own sets of risks, why on earth would you put all your efforts into house flipping or wholesaling when you could have greater profits and lower risks by spreading your efforts around a bit. When it comes to flipping houses, the investment of time, money and labor is great. The payoff has potential but the risks are a little too high for many investors to make this a full time gig. At the same

Although you may be tempted to say inflation, you'd be wrong. From September 1967 to September 2007, the S&P 500 produced an annualized return of 7.

By Janice Revell, Money Magazine senior writer The sluggish economy will be behind the expected surge in market turbulence. "When the economy slows down, there is more uncertainty," says Stuart Freeman, chief equity strategist at A.G. Edwards. "So people react much more strongly to news that otherwise would not have a big impact."But even though stock prices will jump around more, they're still expected to rise in the coming year. The combination of decent if unspectacular earnings growth - about 7.7 percent - and a slight decline in the average price-to-earnings ratio next year should translate to an overall gain of about 5 percent in Standard & Poor's 500 index for 2008.But to cash in, you'll need to be picky about the kind of stocks you buy. Most pros believe that large-cap growth stocks - shares of companies with earnings growing faster than the market average - are primed to outperform in 2008.One reason: A weaker U.S. dollar boosts profits on big companies' foreign sales, all

by Tony CliftonThere is one major excuse for people to keep playing these HYIP games with $10 to $100 "investments". And the excuse is simple...Not Enough Money To Invest I don't want to be blunt, but basically you can't really make any investment with $10 or even $100. At the very minimum, you need at least $500 - $1,000 to start doing some real stuff.Playing the HYIP game is one method to turn your $100 into $1,000. But it is not the best method and certainly the chance that you'll lose that $100 are better. If you don't have at least $500 to invest, I can suggest you some or combination of the following:Save money from everyday expenses. It may sound frustrating, but you need to save only $1.37 per day in order to save $500 for one year. That's just a bottle of beer, so next time when you are buying, think about this: do you want a bottle of beer and an excuse to play games, or you prefer no bottle of beer and no excuse?Work more. This usually isn't the thing to recommend, but just f

Today we tell about some American expressions that are commonly used in business.Bells sound. Lighted messages appear. Men and women work at computers. They talk on the telephone. At times they shout and run around. This noisy place is a stock exchange. Here expert salespeople called brokers buy and sell shares of companies. The shares are known as stocks. People who own stock in a company, own part of that company.People pay brokers to buy and sell stocks for them. If a company earns money, its stock increases in value. If the company does not earn money, the stock decreases in value.Brokers and investors carefully watch for any changes on the Big Board. That is the name given to a list of stocks sold on the New York Stock Exchange. The first written use of the word with that meaning was in a newspaper in Illinois in eighteen thirty-seven. It said: "The sales on the board were one thousand seven hundred dollars in American gold."Investors and brokers watch the Big Board to see if the st

People always ask me how to become successful investing in real estate. Over the years the one thing I've noticed is the puzzled look I usually get after telling them. Maybe people think there's something magical about it.There really isn't...But there are definite behaviors and habits the most successful investors tend to cultivate. And my own personal success didn't take off until I started doing the same things.Today I'll share seven important qualities you can start implementing right away to ensure your own real estate business success.1. A strong, deep sense of self-belief in your purpose and goals. And this faith propels you to go out and meet with prospective buyers and sellers. Even if you feel a little shaky and nervous about doing it. You have enough belief in what you're doing to call people on the phone, or go out to people's homes and talk to them.2. Presenting a written offer. Afterwards, anything else needed to transform the offer into a win-win deal is negotiated. Succ

Most people have realized that the prices of real estate have stopped rising and in most parts of the country have began to fall. Home owners consider this bad news if they were counting on their values rising quickly. The fall in prices has signaled to investors that it is an excellent time for investing in real estate.Over the next few years there are going to be many people making money in real estate who are buying now during the downturn. Everyone has heard that the key to turning profits is to buy low and sell high. The problem for most people is recognizing the buying opportunities. In real estate that time is now!So let's take a minute to try and understand the principals behind making money in real estate. The most important thing to grasp is something called the rule of 72.Basically what the rule of 72 deals with is the compounding of interest on investments. If you take the interest percent that is returned on your investment and divide it into 72 it will give you the number
Public Auctions or Sheriff's Auctions are not for the novice real estate investor. Generally they are the most risky time to purchase foreclosed property. This is not to say that they can't be an overwhelming profit center. There is no doubt that auctions can yield major returns. What happens at an auction is generally very similar in all states. Some states will auction the property in a courtroom and others will literally auction the property on the courthouse steps. At an auction there will typically be a referee who handles the bidding. Most likely there will be a representative from the bank that is foreclosing, and there will be some investors present, and others just interested in what is happening. The bidding at an auction will start at whatever is owed to the bank, plus legal fees. Like preforeclosures, auctions are a good time to buy property at below market value. Buying below market value will give you equity. I have seen properties sell for half price at auctions! You can f
Over the past few years the country has enacted a number of laws that make it easier for foreign purchasers to acquire land in Turkey. Homestead ownership was the goal of mostly every tenderfoot to the United States, and to acquire land is captivating to many. Have been invoking eminent domain to acquire lands for privately owned mega-businesses such as shopping malls and retail stores, citing that benefits to the community outweigh the loss of ownership to the individuals. The moment of abandonment is central to this exploration in reviewing the possibilities a personal letter, written but never finished or sent; land acquired from the recession of a water line; the evolution of buildings and groups. Borrowers can use the loans obtained through this program to acquire land and buildings, buy or install equipment, utilize in working capital, or any other business-related expense approved by the federal government. Now foreigners and foreign legal persons may acquire land, plots, forests
By Gregg WolperThe past month's stock-market gyrations seem to have everyone on edge. If you've managed to remain calm, congratulations--that's the way to succeed as a long-term investor. If you've been shaken, that's understandable, too. It's tough not to be, given the drumbeat of dramatic news reports about collapsing mortgage firms and 200-point drops in the Dow.Even more unnerving than the stock market's slide itself is the notion that the recent turmoil has taken an unprecedented and completely unexpected turn. From several fronts we've heard that the markets are behaving in strange, wild ways. The implication: All the assumptions previously underpinning standard investment theory have gone up in smoke. For example, the manager of a long-short fund, which is designed to handle all sorts of market conditions, explained in The Wall Street Journal his fund's unimpressive showing by saying recent events were "an anomaly." In a Financial Times article, Lehman Brothers explained that its
By David Bogoslaw For most equity investors, the wild market volatility of the past few weeks has been cause for gritted teeth and palpitating hearts. But a few who have become active in online trading communities took some solace in the fact that they at least had found a place where they can see how other investors are riding out the storm."Just the fact that I'm seeing people in there buying calls (an equity option that bets on rising prices) and common stock has definitely given me confidence that the individual is buying on the dip, which is basically what I do, and it's always good to get some reassurance that other people are doing the same thing," says Jim Collins, who opened an account at TradeKing.com in January.Like many other parts of the Internet, online trading sites are more and more turning into collaborative experiences. Only one of the better-established discount online brokers, E*Trade Financial (NasdaqGS:ETFC - News), has made a foray into collaborative Web 2.0 capa
MTV Networks plans to invest well over $500 million in video games, recognizing the booming $30 billion global games market as a major pillar of growth in its goal to reach consumers wherever they spend time. The two-year investment is part of a global strategy to incorporate games development at the inception of all new programming plans and not as an afterthought, executives say. “Games are critical,” MTV Networks President of Global Digital Media Mika Salmi said. Salmi joined MTV after parent company Viacom bought Atom Entertainment last year for $200 million. He oversaw Atom’s Shockwave.com, a pioneer of online games. To quote: “As we take our brands narrow and deep to serve our targeted, niche audiences, we’re putting well over $500 million behind building our games business across all of the brands in our portfolio. I’d like to see more game applications on some of our current big brands across the music group,” MTV chairman and chief executive Judy McGrath said, re

A comment on my last post got me thinking about how to determine if you can do your own investing. After all if your constantly chasing the latest 'hot' investment or selling off at the slightest dip, you can do a lot of damage to your own money. So what do you need to do your own investing? Surprisingly not a lot, but it does require some honest self assessment.Step 1 - Are you an active or passive investor? If you are stock geek and can honest say you will read every little bit information about every company you own (and any company that you are thinking about owning) and also be willing to do additional industry research. Then congratulations you might have the knowledge base to do active trading in individual stocks. Yet you will also need to assess your ability to handle loss and your emotional involvement. So if you can't sleep at night with a 10% loss to a stock you own then you should not be an active investor. So if you failed the above test you are a passive investo

Since we've been on the topic of real estate investing, I wanted to make a point to help clear up any confusion that people have about when a good time to invest in real estate might be. The best time to invest in real estate is ALL OF THE TIME - but especially when the market is slow. Allow me to explain: When markets are sluggish and the prices are in a holding pattern or downward trend, people begin to worry that it's a bad time to buy and they don't. This is a costly mistake. The best time to buy any investment is when prices are low. (Stock Market Rule #1: "Buy low, sell high" - Also applies to real estate). You can get some amazing deals right now! It is a buyers market... especially in Atlanta. Ands there is a glut of houses listed so you have many more choices and sellers are more open to negotiate on things like price, terms, repairs and even help with financing. Why wait another minute? NOW is the time to get that investment property you've always wanted. I can h
