Clarkson made her debut under RCA Records after she won the highly publicized first season of the television series American Idol in 2002. She was originally marketed as a pop musician with her debut album Thankful (2003). For those of you who missed the drama, Kelly Clarkson recently released My December, the dark, heavily rock influenced album, which isn’t as radio appealing than her megahit 2004 album, Breakaway. SonyBMG head, Clive Davis who wanted another pop hit, faught against the Clarkson-penned album.
If these reports are true, it is most likely a compromise between Davis and Clarkson. She got to release an album her way, now she has to please her label. A “win, win” situation, right? I am very surprised she had to cancel her summer tour I would think with her being so popular tickets would sell well. Breakaway was awesome album with some her best songs on it then with her next CD called December. Her canceling her summer tour to be honest I did not even know she was on tour this summer so maybe that could be the problem of people not being aware of her being on tour. She was trying to perform at big venues like giant arena concerts that did not sell well. I am not fan of sold-out giant arena concerts I rather see an artist in a small concert environment. I like that best can really connect and hear them sing up close. I am thinking her fan base might think the same way she is all about being up close and personal the girl next door is what Kelly Clarkson is. She feels like a person you could be friends with for some reason that I rather see in concert at small event instead of large one. Us Weekly reports that Kelly Clarkson has fired her manager, Jeff Kwatinetz, only two weeks before the release of her album My December:
“A source confirms to Usmagazine.com that Clarkson has fired LA-based Jeff Kwatinetz, of the management company The Firm. “It is true. It just happened. It is a total shock but she wasn’t happy,” says the source, who adds that Clarkson has not yet decided on a new manager. Another source adds, “They majorly disagreed over the album and the direction and Kelly had enough.”
Thats odd, last time I checked Kwatinetz had an executive producer credit on My December. How does this fit in the grad scheme of things, Kelly? What does this mean for My December? Is it even worth it?
