The Telegraph (UK) says Live Earth was underwhelming.
Live Aid and Live 8 worked because they were urgent, emotive, single-issue events aimed at achieving immediate, tangible results. They had an uncomplicated spirit of universal charity that coincides with the entire ethos of popular music, and were run with a haphazard, devil-may-care approach that tapped into rock’s favoured anti-establishment pose. There was a sense of manning the barricades, not preaching from a podium.
When the ANSWER Coalition organizes a major antiwar protest, the groups involved decide on a few unity points and slogans, and these are displayed prominently in leaflets, email, and other such organizing materials, plus displayed on the stage banner at the event. Watching the Live Earth concerts yesterday for something like 8 hours, I got to say, I am absolutely thrilled that so many artists turned out to support such an important cause. Unfortunately the shear scope of these concerts prevented every moment from being shown on regular, but there were tons of great performances from genres from classic to soul to rock to folk shown and you can view all the concert footage online.
From all these performances I definitely found some standouts that struck me from a variety of artists both expected and unexpected. Top highlight for me was the Police, who’s set was fiery and electric, exactly as you’d expect the police to be and although I thought the collaboration with Kanye West fell a little short, John Mayer joining them on guitar made up for it. A destruição da camada de ozono
As grandes concentrações de ozono encontram-se entre os 15 e os 40 Km de altitude (principalmente aos 35 Km). A camada de ozono protege pessoas, animais e plantas, dado que filtra os raios ultravioletas (UV-B) prejudiciais.
Porém, ao nível do solo, o ozono é um gás altamente poluente. É prejudicial aos seres humanos (irrita os órgãos respiratórios), afecta o crescimento das plantas e causa problemas em vários materiais, por exemplo, a desintegração da borracha.
Desde a década de 80 todas as investigações têm demonstrado que a camada de ozono tem vindo a diminuir (em 1998 cerca de 3-6% abaixo dos níveis de 1979).
Todas as pesquisas confirmaram (desde 1974) que os denominados clorofluorcarbonetos (gases CFC) são os grandes responsáveis pela destruição e diminuição da camada de ozono.
Os CFC são compostos atóxicos e estáveis, não são inflamáveis, não reagem a outras substâncias e também não corroem os mateiais.

Cabe decir pues que frente a estos mega-eventos culturosos (organizados por mega-industrias y auspiciados nada menos que por expresidentes candidatos a presidentes con intenciones de alternativa ecológica): que se sospecha; que se duda… Que se toman todos los recaudos porque esto ya lo hemos vivido (entiéndase “Live 8: El imperialismo…” o “Ni G8, ni Live 8″). Y que se tiene casi la certeza de que todo sigue siendo un gran circo…

In the tradition of Live Aid of 1985 and Live 8 of 2005 musicians have once again come together to help raise awareness of a worth cause in todays Live Earth concert series. There will be concerts in 9 different countries with a variety of artists all organized by the Save Our Selves organization hoping to mobilize a global response to climate change and will extend well beyond the concerts themselves.
I’m always interested to see any sort of widespread activism taking place for such a good cause and when it involves music, I’m even more excited. The 9 venues for these shows are: New York, London, Shanghai, Sydney, Johannesburg, Rio De Janeiro, Hamburg, China and Tokyo.
There looks like a wide range of artists who will be performing including some big names that should make for great highlights. I do find it a little interesting though that there are some big names I would have expected to turn out who are not on the concert list… namely Paul McCartney and U2

Rock group Arctic Monkeys have become the latest music industry stars to question whether the performers taking part in Live Earth on Saturday are suitable climate change activists.
"It's a bit patronising for us 21 year olds to try to start to change the world," said Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders, explaining why the group is not on the bill
Although not an official Live Earth event, the LA Viva Earth event was affiliated, and was intended as the West Coast's contribution to the day. Not any more, though: Busta Rhymes and Ciara will be staying at home as they've apparently pulled that now, too.
O Aquecimento Global
A partir da década de 90 do século XX, as questões das alterações climáticas tornaram-se as preocupações ambientais dominantes, com especiual destaque para o aquecimento global.
O aquecimento global previsto baseia-se no chamado "efeito de estufa".
O efeito de estufa consiste na retenção do calor na baixa atmosfera por gases e partículas nela existentes, que funcionam como os vidros e uma estufa, ou seja: deixam entrar uma parte substancial da radiação solar ( radiação emitida pelo Sol) que, na maioria é absorvida pela superfície terrestre, sendo transformada em radiação calorífica (infravermelhos).

A constante alteração a nível global dos equilíbrios do planeta, resultante da destruição da camada de ozono, do aumento do chamado "efeito de estufa", da perda constante de biodiversidade (conjunto dos seres vivos - fauna e flora) e da visão da Terra como um ser vivo, tem conferido cada vez mais uma dimensão planetária às questões ambientais.
Já nos anos 70, a Conferência de Estocolmo (Suécia) e o Relatório Meadow tinham feito um diagnóstico da situação ambiental mundial: "(...) de facto, para além do efeito de estufa, da degradação da camada de ozono, da erosão dos solos, do esgotamento dos recursos fósseis ou da diversidade biológica, do desequilíbrio demográfico, é a inter-relação entre estes problemas que torna difícil a sua solução (...)".
No entanto, nas duas últimas décadas nada se avançou no combate ou na atenuação dos problemas ambientais, a não ser na apreensão da globalidade das apostas ambientais.
