The fourth quarter results reflect portfolio data for middle market exposure provided by 16 top tier participating institutions, estimated to represent over one-half of all middle market commercial loans in the U.S.The non-accrual percentage of middle market loans began to rise over one year ago and now represent 0.68% of total loan outstanding balances. Local property market on Grand Lake, OKGrove, Oklahoma on Grand Lake in NE Oklahoma is a wonderful place to call home, have a second home or lake home, golf course home, or retirement home. You can read of down home markets in Nevada, California, and Florida, but not Oklahoma. The Oklahoma economy is good and real estate prices are steady with a nice selection of homes. You can get a deal once in a while from someone scared by reading national press but this is just a buyer's advantage now.You will not find "fire sale" prices on Grand Lake however. You can find your dream whether it be a lake front home, golf course home, home on small acreage, in town, way out of town, condo, gated community, or just a nice neighborhood. You might like a home in Patricia Island with both waterfront and golf course view homes available. Buffalo Shores North and South both offer excellent homes to choose from. • A Down Market Has Its Upsides for Young People
by Anya KamenetzSometimes what seems like bad news can be turned into good. All the recent talk about the faltering economy certainly seems to fall into the bad-news category. Housing prices had the biggest decline ever, the U.S. and international stock markets had some very dark days, 17,000 U.S. jobs unexpectedly "disappeared," and many experts feel that we're heading into a recession. But there's reason for young people to look on the bright side. In fact, beginning your financial life during an economic correction or downturn can be a preferable thing in many ways. Here are a few of the positives:1.) We won't expect to get rich quick. Economic dramas shape an entire generation's beliefs about the nature of the economy and the risks involved. Just ask your grandmother, who experienced the Depression and is probably still saving rubber bands. If you're in your 20s or early 30s, your living memory consists of a nearly unprecedented runup in stock market values -- the tech bubble of the

  • Futures Versus Forex (Foreign Exchange Market)
Todays current futures market is quite unlike the futures of the 19th century. Todays future market is a worldwide one that includes manufactured goods, financial currencies and treasury bonds, and agricultural products. When you speculate on futures it is not the actual good that is speculated upon rather it is the contract for the goods that is traded as value. Every futures contract includes a buyer and a seller. The following is an example of a futures speculation: A farmer agrees to deliver 1000 bushels of corn to a baker at a price of $5.00 a bushel. If the daily price of corn futures falls to $4.00 a bushel, the farmer's account is credited with $1000 ($5.00 - $4.00 X 1000 bushels) and the baker's account is debited by the same amount. Futures accounts are settled every day.Using the above as an example this is how the contract settlement would play out: If the price of corn futures is still at $4.00 the farmer will have made $1000 on the futures contract and the baker will have
  • Preparing your House For the Market
I get a LOT of calls from people who are contemplating selling their home. They almost all ask the same thing: what are the main things that I can do to prepare my house for the market. I'm so glad they ask because this is a very competitive market and it takes some time to get your house in top shape. Here are some ideas for what you can do to prepare your house for the market:1. Paint! If you can do nothing else, paint your walls. A fresh coat of paint covers a multitude of sins. Be sure to use only one neutral color of flat (such as antique white or eggshell) and a high gloss pure white for your trim. Keep it simple and keep it neutral.2. Be sure to remove any wallpaper - most potential buyers will not want wallpaper and they especially won't want yours. When people see wallpaper, they immediately think of the work that will be involved in removing it (not much if you do it correctly) and it detracts from the house in their mind.3. PURGE! Yes, get rid of the clutter and get
  • Tomorrow's Bull Market
by Steven GoldbergThe market could well fall another 10% or 15% from here. But look for terrific returns for years to come after that. The unrelenting market slide since the start of the year is terrifying. What's more, it doesn't seem excessive: The news flow from Wall Street bankers and from Main Street is equally horrid. The only real surprise is that it took the market so long to fall this far.But there's no reason to panic. Bear markets -- a 20% or greater decline in Standard & Poor's 500-stock index -- typically occur every four or five years. They're the price of stock investing. What's more, I think this bear market will set up an extraordinary buying opportunity -- one that will produce superior market returns in the coming years.Let's start with the basics. A bear market is hardly the end of the world, or even of your investments. On average, the market declines 25% or so in a bear market then goes on to make new highs within a couple of years. Here's the kicker: We're
  • Huge fire sweeps through London's Camden market
By Adrian Croft LONDON (Reuters) - A huge fire swept through London's Camden market on Saturday, damaging shops and a famous nightspot in one of the British capital's most popular tourist districts. No one was injured but the London Fire Brigade said it had to send 20 fire engines and 100 firefighters to tackle the blaze at the market in north London, a bohemian area usually crowded with shoppers and people enjoying local pubs and clubs. The fire devoured the Hawley Arms pub, a popular haunt of celebrities including singer Amy Winehouse and model Kate Moss. Market storage areas and shops were set ablaze, adjoining houses were damaged and some local residents had to be evacuated as a precaution, the Fire Brigade said. Throngs of revellers stood in the streets of Camden, a fashion and music hub, watching flames and smoke billowing into the air. By late evening, the blaze had died down but firefighters said they would remain on scene all night. "The fire is surrounded by
  • U.S. STOCKS - Market climbs back, helped by tech, energy
By Jennifer Coogan NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks rose on Monday, recovering from last week's losses, as bargain-hunting and takeover talk sparked gains in the technology sector and a rise in crude oil futures lifted energy stocks. A 6 percent gain in General Motors Corp's stock helped the Dow offset a drop in shares of American International Group Inc. The world's largest insurer received a rebuke from its auditors for how it valued some credit derivatives, sending it shares down 11 percent. Nasdaq was outpacing gains in the Dow and S&P, led by Apple Inc and Research in Motion, maker of the BlackBerry device. Both stocks had fallen more than one-third from their 2007 highs, making them attractive bargains, traders said. "Tech is the trade right now. They're picking the ones that have been beaten down the most. They're not as toxic as financials and housing," said Joe Saluzzi, co-manager of trading at Themis Trading in Chatham, New Jersey. • G7 targets causes of market crises, cure elusive
By Brian Love TOKYO (Reuters) - Beyond the immediate challenge of crisis containment, the G7 industrialised nations promised over the weekend to fix the financial market faultlines that are destabilising the global economy. Promising was the easy part. The next few months will tell whether the G7 governments can set aside their differences and work together to tackle the root causes of the market turmoil that snowballed out of the United States last August. "G7 credibility will now be more about putting what was said into practice than just saying it," said a government official who attended the meeting where finance ministers produced the pledges in Tokyo on Saturday. "They've got a few months to show they can do it." The finance ministers of the United States, Japan, Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Canada acknowledged that the economic outlook had deteriorated markedly in recent months, even if they stopped short of predicting a U.S. recession.
  • Reliance Power to debut on choppy market
MUMBAI (Reuters) - Reliance Power lists on the stock market on Monday after a record $3 billion IPO in January, but market turbulence that derailed two issues last week has toned down expectations for a strong debut. The utility, part of India's Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, had sold out the country's largest-ever IPO within a minute of its opening. The offering was subscribed 73 times raising hopes the shares would make a big splash on listing. Reliance had priced the IPO at 450 rupees ($11.4) a share, at the top of an indicated band, and brokers initially said they would trade at 900 rupees -- although the company was unlikely to report strong profits for five years. But jittery global sentiment triggered by U.S. recession worries has rocked Indian markets, pushing the benchmark BSE index down 17 percent from an all-time high of 21,206.77 hit on Jan. 10. Last week, poor market sentiment caused by the slide toppled the IPOs of Wockhardt Hospitals Ltd and a $1.6 billion issue from
  • Wall St Week Ahead - Market braces for another grueling week
By Kristina Cooke NEW YORK (Reuters) - Another grueling week for Wall Street could be in store, even as some see value among the wreckage wrought so far this year as fretful investors remain jumpy over prospects for the economy and wary of more trouble at bond insurers. Another worry is whether China's stock market, which was closed for the Lunar New Year holiday during much of the past week's turmoil, could trigger another bout of selling globally when it reopens on Wednesday and tries to catch up. Before then, however, bond insurers, most notably MBIA Inc's MBIA Insurance Corp and Ambac Financial Group Inc's Ambac Assurance Corp, will likely be central to the market's direction, analysts said. The two are on the hook for billions of dollars after guaranteeing repackaged subprime mortgages and other risky debt that have now soured. Deutsche Bank Chief Executive Josef Ackermann, for one, has warned that the bond insurers' difficulties could lead to the next financial crisis. &
  • Camden market fire has claimed at least 300 businesses
At least 300 businesses could be lost due to Saturday night's fire in London's famous Camden Market. Sources have told The Telegraph that the damage bill for the fire could run into millions of pounds. The market's iconic Hawley Arms Pub, a haunt of stars such as Amy Winehouse, could be demolished after the inferno, which needed more than 100 firefighters to bring it under control. While Camden Market Holdings, which owns the site destroyed by the fire, vowed to rebuild as quickly as possible, the London Fire Brigade said it was too early to say whether it had been started deliberately or where it had started. The paper quoted a spokesman for the Association of British Insurers as saying: "Given the extent of the damage and the significant number of closures the insurance claims are likely to run into millions. This sort of damage can be devastating." Large sections of Camden High Street were cordoned off yesterday and about 450 people were evacuated from their homes as the f

Synchronica plc, an international provider of mobile email and synchronization solutions, will announce Mobile Backup 1.2 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with major feature enhancements to drive up consumer adoption rates and revenue and drive down support costs.Consumers are increasingly using their mobile phones as the sole repository for social and business information. For many, the loss of a handset itself is much less traumatic than the loss of the precious contact information, a social network, that it held. For operators, this means a loss of revenue because users will initiate far fewer phone calls and send far fewer text messages during the several months it takes to restore that social network to a new phone. By using Mobile Backup from Synchronica, operators and service providers can prevent loss of ARPU and add value to their services by offering insurance for their subscribers' personal information. If the customer loses or upgrades a phone, the service painles

To be an effective investor, you need a stock market plan that guides your choice of investments, the way you buy stocks, how long you keep investments in your portfolio, and when you sell. That's called an investment strategy!Without a stock market strategy, you're likely to invest randomly -- a stock here, a bond there -- without a sense of how your investments can work together to achieve the return you want and without being able to control your risks. What's more, much of the long-term success of any investment portfolio depends on the way its assets are allocated, or distributed, among the range of investment choices.

  • Market Survival Guide
    1. Keep costs down In the new era of low returns, it's important to keep fees down to build a winning portfolio. Buy index funds and ETFs, and don't pay for Wall Street's often unreliable advice. 2. Go for dividends A big gift of today's rocky market is a surge in dividend yields. If you want income for life, grab solid but beaten-down names right now. Two good bets: pharma and utilities. 3. Take a chance on battered stocks Sure, it takes courage, but the best investors pounce when sectors are bloodied and expectations in the cellar. Two reviled sectors: banks and homebuilders. 4. Look abroad Diversification is the foundation of a strong portfolio. One way to get there is with a big allocation in international stocks. But true diversification is tricky. We'll tell you how to do it right. 5. Be smart about bonds You need fixed-income investments for ballast, but the trick is staying ahead of inflation. The three picks for an inflation-racked world: munis, TIPs, and CDs
