  • Memories
My daughter and I spent THREE hours yesterday viewing and sifting through old photos in our home office. I've tried doing this process alone, but I become too melancholy looking at old photos, so it helps me to have someone to joke around with. Even then with good company, we both finally said, "Enough Already!".It's clear that our photo organization project is going to proceed in stages or else the melancholy brought on by our bittersweet memories overwhelms us and puts us into a funk.As an avid photographer (I've now switched to digital photography), I have LOTS of hard-copy photo memories stored in photo albums and boxes. Each one of these photos is precious to me because I'm very sentimental. At different times in my life, my old photos were either destroyed by fire or water or lost or went missing--and I grieved their loss.Funny thing about old photos though. My daughter and I both experienced a strange 'feeling' and expressed it to each other after our photo expedition was finish

  • Ef ~A tale of Memories~ 05-12
  • Christmas Eve Words of Memories
Christmas Eve makes me believe in Santa Claus bringing such joy to each girl and boy all over the earth. It is amazing what one guy named Santa Claus has done to us all to believe in the unknown. Everyone is wondering is it right or wrong to believe in Santa. I don’t think is anything wrong with it I have fine memories of believing in Santa. When my parents were still together, my dad used just load the tree with gifts that was before Christmas Eve. When Christmas morning was even more presents it was so many present could not even get to the tree. Sometimes I do miss that moment of my life of being young and untainted by life. I have not had an easy life from childhood until now I have struggle so much no one will ever know how much. I am thankful for this Christmas making it through another year of this place called earth I really don’t want to be here. However, thinking about Christmas or love makes me want to stay another year on earth. For another Christmas Eve to see what is

  • Internet generation may have poorer memories
Researchers in the USA have found an interesting way in which we can improve our memories. But it means that the growing numbers of people who spend their life online could suffer. The psychologists at the University of Michigan have discovered that social interaction helps boost memory skills. It appears that social isolation reduces cognitive abilities.Considering vast numbers of people now exist in an almost entirely online world, this could be potentially quite significant. Being with real people, face to face, rather than being online and connecting with people virtually, appears to help your brain power. For anyone in business this means you must take periods away from your computer and go out and meet real people. Not only will this do your business good as a result of the networking you do, it will also improve your brain power enabling you to work out ways of beating the competition who stay stuck in their offices behind their PC.Social networking, email and online forums may g
  • Ef ~A tale of Memories~ 01-04
  • "Genghis" Cohen And Memories Of "Old Europe"
I don’t think we’ll ever have to worry about anyone getting wistful for the return of Don (“Hiding Out At The Hoover Institution”) Rumsfeld to Bushco, particularly since Roger Cohen of the New York Times seems to be so eager to “channel” Rummy today concerning the Now And Forever You Pete Stark-Supporting Chicken Libtard Global War On Terra Terra Terra!!!(“Libtard” – I haven’t been called that for awhile now, and it chokes me up a bit actually…sniff :-).Here is an excerpt from Cohen’s latest offering today, in which he laments the toll on NATO exacted by the Afghan war, particularly in the Taliban-held south and east (I made a passing reference to that conflict in the last post)…That, however, is a fact Europeans are reluctant to accept, just as the link between slaughter in Madrid, London or Amsterdam and the Afghan-Pakistani terror nexus seems unconvincing to many Europeans floating on an Iraq-comforted wave of moral smugness. That’s some interesting new fr

Many is the time I used to drive naked to visit my mom and dad. Good times. Good times.ANGOLA, Ind. - A naked man driving along the Indiana Toll Road was arrested and charged because his lewd conduct distracted other motorists, police said. The 37-year-old Chicago man was traveling east to Ohio to visit his mother, police said. He was nude and had petroleum jelly on his hands when a state trooper pulled him over about 10 miles from the Ohio line Wednesday, police said. The man, who told police he was comfortable driving in the nude, was charged with misdemeanor indecent exposure, punishable by up to a year in jail. The trooper, Al Martinez, a four-year veteran of the Indiana State Police, said he walked up to the passenger side of the SUV and saw that the man had dropped a T-shirt across his midsection. Other motorists had called police about the driver, with several calls from truckers who could see into the front seat of the SUV.Martinez made the man put his clothes back on before handc
  • Summer Teen Memories at Root Beer Stand - Flavored RootBeer Soda, Fun, Friends, Family
My favorite flavored soda flavor of all time is root beer for the reason that it has many great memories along with it. It probably is not really about the flavor at all but about the memories that go along with drinking that flavor of soda that is very good with taste. My summer memories going to the root beer stand almost every day when I was a young girl and my teenage years hanging out at that fun place. Would go with family, friends it is the type of place either sit in the car or at the table outside. Hanged out with the girlfriends talking about boys, clothes, parties, dates and all the fun things a girl talks about when young. The girls and I sitting watching the gross boys riding around on bicycles we then watched those same boys grow into cute teenage boys that drove around in cool cars being wild trying to get the attention of all us teen girls. Everyone would go for dates there or go there before going to a party or after high school ball games, dates, first kiss, hookups,

  • Old Memories
I was just sitting here thinking of my youth..remembering all the fun I used to have with my friends and my sister during the summer.I was a tomboy. Yes sirree! I didn't flinch at the thought of climbing bluffs in search of dinosaur bones, or freak out when a bug crawled across my foot while I was playing hide and seek. I didn't mind it if it suddenly rained. We just ran around like monkeys and got soaking wet. It was like playing in the sprinkler...only better.I remember one summer when my best friends (both boys) made the coolest fort I had ever seen. It was in the kudzu. They and their dad had hollowed a huge area of kudzu and made tunnels through it and little rooms under hidden bushes covered in the vine. After you got through the tunnels and to the edge of the patch, they had a rope swing that you would use to swing off into a deep ditch where we would drop off and run around to the front to start all over again.I remember one summer when we all went swimming at the Shiner's pool
  • Chapter Twenty Five: Of Waking Memories
James awoke into a world of light so bright that he had to squint just to be able to see anything at all. All around him was a vast nothingness that led nowhere. There were no walls, no ground, and no sky. He wondered for a moment if he were in heaven and if he had died. The pain that he had been expecting wasn’t there and when he brought his hands to his face he could clearly see that no gashes or scars were there. It was as if he were completely untouched, further adding to his fear that he had in fact died and gone to heaven. Then someone appeared as a faded shade of gray. The figure walked leisurely, only fully becoming visible when the two of them were mere feet apart. The face of the man before him smiled warmly beneath a sandy blonde beard that hung at his neckline. Two faded green eyes looked down, further adding to the warmth of the smile. Then a hand extended. James took it and stood. No sensations came to him. No lightheadedness; n

  • Summer of Love Memories
Many long years ago my daughter and I had a reading with a famous psychic. And my daughter was told a wild story: that she had been a hippie in San Francisco during the famous Summer of Love where she had died from an overdose. What was wild about this story is that my daughter ( born in 1975) for reasons unknown to me had in her youth an obsession for 60's music and especially the song, "When You Go to San Francisco, Be Sure to Wear A Flower in Your Hair". She is an authority on 60's music, began collecting it as a young girl, knows all the lyrics, names of musicians, etc. She knows way more than me about sixties music and sixties trivia. We received chill bumps when we heard this information from the psychic. If there is truth to this, my daughter has certainly changed in this lifetime as she's not a druggie, smoker, or a drinker. She wanted to move to San Francisco, and she almost went to an art school there at one time. However, after she went for a visit, that was enough for her, a
  • Early media memories
I found a link to this page about former Erie media personality Jim Cook via Jack's Erie Media Go Round post on the site. {Sophia of the Golden Girls mode:} Picture it! Erie. Early 1980's. I was the president of the local comic book club Comic Acropolis. (Wow. Me being a nerd/geek. Is anyone surprised by that? I didn't think so.) My friend Terri was the vice president. Jim Cook hosted a late night horror movie show at the time on WJET TV 24. One time, we got to go on to promote the club. I think Terri made some kind of certificate or something to present to Jim. So, we walked onto the set, and Jim as host asked us who we were. I replied "Terri and Mike." He shot back with "Oh, YOU are both Terri and Mike??" Not to be outdone, I said, "Yes. I am Terri and Mike, except for Terri. And she is Terri and Mike, except for Mike. So, we are each both of us, except for the other one." I think I had read something like this from a British series called The Goon Squad, but I was pretty thrill

The Fourth of July used to be a holiday I really enjoyed. Not that I don't enjoy it now, mind you.Its just a little less excited. Back when I was a kid, we used to spend all day at the lake, getting sun burned and playing around. Then, we'd have a picnic and change into long sleeves and jeans to watch the fireworks from the dock.I don't know when that changed. I sure do miss it. Those were some of my best memories as a kid.

  • Hong Kong Memories… Final Part - Disneyland!
Yep, folks, we’re at the last instalment of the series in the travelogue. Next time i should use one of those picture viewers with the caption below so that it’s easier to post lots of pics… Anyway here are the earlier posts in the series: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3: Ocean Park and Victoria Peak Day Four was the highlight of our 5 day trip. We packed up everything in the hotel we’d been staying in for the past 3 nights - BP International in Kowloon, cause we were spending the day and one night in Hong Kong Disneyland…! Or as the locals called it “Tik see nei”. Yeah i know it sounds vulgar, but that’s how it is. The day didn’t start off too well. Our tour bus was over an hour late. The bus finally came, with a different tour guide from the previous days, this guy looked a bit like the bad guy in the 9.30pm series on Wah Lai Toi currently showing. Yes, the one Adam Cheng acting one. Anyway, Disneyland is on Lantau Island, which is towards th
  • Hong Kong Memories… Part 3 - Ocean Park and Victoria Peak
This is the second last in the series of post on my recent trip to Hong Kong, you can check out the first and second parts here: Hong Kong Memories… Day 1 Hong Kong Memories… Day 2 Okay, okay i know, too many travelogues are a little tiresome, so one more post and i’m done, okay? So on the third day, it was a free and easy touring day for us. We didn’t have to wake up too early like in the earlier days, but not too late, since we had lots to do and see. This is the view from our hotel room in the morning. All concrete buildings, can hardly see the streets! So we went for some local ‘wan tan mee‘ for breakfast (at unbelieveable prices) and then we took the MTR from Jordan to Admiralty. Outside the Admiralty station, we took a bus that brought us to…. Ocean Park! This years OP is celebrating their 30 years anniversary, can’t believe an amusement park that’s so old can still look so good and remain popular as ever. I wonder how Sunway Lagoo
  • Summertime Memories
As I was watering the plants on my deck this morning, I suddenly felt 'Summer' sweep over me, and I got the first whiff of a summertime vibe. It felt good! I have happy memories of summers past, and when these memories return (as they did this morning), I feel almost giddy with expectation of good times ahead. Here are some of my favorite summertime memories:Running through a lawn sprinkler getting soaked on a hot summer dayEndless games of hide 'n seek which went on as late as our neighborhood group could get away with and the parents called us homeCampfire Girl summer camp with the bugle wake-up call every morningHot dogs from the grill with lots of mustardCicadas singing all night long... the next morning their empty shells on the treeA cold, sweet snow cone..with the inevitable dribbles on the chinSwimming holes, creeks, and lakes--anything wetChiggers and fireflies lighting up the nightWhat are some of your favorite memories of summer?
  • Hong Kong Memories… Day 2
(This is a continuation of the previous Part One) So the second day of our stay in Hong Kong, we got up really early to follow this half day city tour organized by our tour agent. I’m used to waking up early, but not while on holiday… besides we had to wake up early to eat breakfast, which was cup noodles and 3-in-1 coffee in typical Malaysian fashion. They came round punctually at about 7.30am, by then the city was already buzzing with people and traffic. This is our tour leader Ah Fai, a really nice and funny guy. He tells lots of humourous stories about life in Hong Kong and some gossip about the stars. He also says that from the left, he looks a bit like Andy Lau… yeah, rii-iiight… Our first stop was dim sum breakfast. They didn’t tell us they were bringing us there, we wouldn’t have eaten it earlier! Anyway it was to this fairly large restaurant somewhere in Kowloon where they had an awesome array of live seafood displayed in tanks. The dim
  • Memories. The Museum of My Life.
Road Trip Day 18: 9th June 2007For many people a visit to their parents home, years after having left for an independent life, brings back many childhood memories, artifacts and a history of growing up. Coming from, what is usually described as a 'broken home', the history of my early years and previous lives can be found not so much in my parents homes but in my sisters home. The way my family split to eventually go their separate ways has gradually turned Rose's home (where I'm staying whilst in Perth) into a living family archive - though I'm sure it doesn't feel that way to her. There is so much of my families history either still in use or stored in Rose's house that for me it's like coming back to a personal museum of our life. For example, Roses kitchen table and chairs are older than me. I think they were the very first table and chairs my parents bought when they arrived in Australia from the U.K. The chairs have been recovered once in nearly 50 years and are looking li
  • Las Vegas Memories
Last evening my partner and I went to see the just-released film "Ocean's Thirteen" which has been dubbed by some film critics as 'Unlucky Thirteen'. My partner intensely disliked it as did many movie critics on Rotten Tomatoes. As for me, any film with so many phenomenal actors can't be all that bad!A touching moment in the film was a scene where the characters played by Brad Pitt and George Clooney were reminiscing about their 'good old days' in Las Vegas. My partner began whispering in my ear the names of casinos long gone from the Vegas strip. He has a great fondness for the former Las Vegas too.Las Vegas is one of his favorite destinations as it is for many Hawaiians. In fact, many have migrated from the 50th state for the more affordable homes in the Las Vegas suburbs. You can buy a grand home there for what you buy a shack on Maui! The new Las Vegas residents also find better jobs and easier lives. Actually, Las Vegas could be called the most Hawaiian city on the Mainland
  • Hong Kong Memories… Day 1
Yep, i was in Hong Kong with my family last week, it was a beautiful place. It was very hot, though, as hot as Malaysia, plus it’s dry and not much wind despite being an island. We went to a whole lot of places - Disneyland (stayed a night there), Ocean Park, the night markets, Repulse Bay, the Peak, etc and took a whole lot of photos, but i won’t kill your modem with all the photos here, but i’ll show a few choice photos from each day i was there. So here we go… On day 1, the first impression after touching down was the new Chek Lap Kok airport. It’s pretty small compared to KLIA, but it’s very crowded: Onto the streets of Kowloon we go! First pic - a Hong Kong taxi! Just like the ones we see on the famous TV series!! This is our hotel, BP International. It’s good, but small as most HK hotels are. I later found out BP stands for Baden Powell, which explains the fleur-de-lis and Scout paraphenalia all over the lobby. I can’t even get a
