  • Movie Review Jodhaa Akbar: Jodhaa Akbar has class but….
Many happy returns of the year(not just a day) for Ashtuosh Gowariker for directing Jodhaa Akbar very well. The movie did take a long time in its making but the outcome is worth it. However, quite expectedly, you cannot anticipate the masses to really love the movie. The first half of the movie is rather long(the movie itself is 3 and a half hours in length) and there are some scenes in the first half which seem to be long-drawn. They could well have been trimmed. Technicalities: Full marks to Ashutosh and his team including script writers K.P. Saxena and Haider Ali who have worked hard and meticulously to come up with the mood and the feel of the Moghul era at the screenplay level itself. Music by A.R.Rahman, including the background score is relevant and does not overwhelm the movie. The artwork by Nitin Desai is first-rate. But the main hero of the film is Ashutosh Gowariker who has shot some scenes with brilliance. The song picturizations including the title track “Jalaluddi
  • Fools Gold Movie Review - Matthew Mcconaughey and Kate Hudson
OK. So I opted to see the new Matthew Mcconaughey movie, Fool’s Gold, with a friend of mine. I decided to see it because, well, I don’t know. The minute I told my other friends I saw it, they pointed and laughed at me. But I don’t care. I’m known to like the cheesier side [...]
  • Cloverfield: a movie review
It is a rare occasion that I watch a movie without Googling the title and reading up on what critics have to say about it. Cloverfield is one such movie. I have seen the poster of the beheaded Statue of Liberty a couple of times as we pass by the mall, and wondered how it was related to the title. I haven't seen the trailer either. But yesterday, we got a chance to go home earlier than usual
  • Movie Review: Juno
Juno (played by the talented Ellen Page) is 16, wise beyond her years and pregnant. Knocked-up the first time she had sex with fellow partner Paulie Bleeker (Micheal Cera from Arrested Development), she decides to give her baby up for… I love how the script is written — it’s so witty, fast and random, you just [...]
  • Movie Review Taare Zameen Par-As perfect as Aamir Khan
Taare Zameen Par movie reviewTaare Zameen Par makes Filmfare Awards 2008-A calculated prediction on Bollywood Awards for movies released on 2007 even tougher for me. What a way to end the year! Taare Zameen Par is surely one of the milestone movies in Bollywood. It will be tougher to give the Best movie critics award since Chak De can get some real tough competition from Taare Zameen Par. It surely is my favorite movie of 2007.Want to know what movies are and how they should be made? Go the Aamir Khan Way!Aamir Khan’s tagline ‘every child is special’ suits the theme of the movie to the hilt. Not just the child, the movie is special too. Aamir Khan has valiantly gone ahead and chose a never before discussed topic in main-stream cinema-dyslexia. The movie is shot from the eyes of the 8 year old Ishan Awasthy(Darsheel Safary)who suffers from dyslexia, a learning disability, wherein he is not able to comprehend the spelling and meaning of letters and numbers. This learning disabi
  • Movie Review: Cloverfield
First, I apologize for again abandoning the blog. The workload has quadrupled (maybe more) this year, as if last year’s workload wasn’t heavy enough. I believe this has something to do with tutors struggling to finish the entire syllabus before mid this year. Probably the best movie I have seen so far this year. Paramount actually [...]
  • AML Movie Review: “Cloverfield”
I didn't waste much time rushing out to see Cloverfield, the new monster movie from J.J. Abrams. The hype started building last summer when the first trailer hit the theaters, pimping 1-18-08 as the date for something awesome. Since then the buzz built more with viral sites galore, production photos and leaked monster sketches. The big9 Zoom(s)
  • I Am Legend Movie Review - It Would Have Made A Better TV Series
I recently saw I Am Legend because the story line intrigued me. Just about any post-apocalyptic/world widecatastrophe story that results in only 1 man being alive or not infected always seems to peek my interest (sometimes I wouldn’t mind having all of New York City including all apartments, cars, parks, shops, etc. all for [...]
  • Halla Bol - Movie Review
Apun Ka Choice: No matter how well intentioned Halla Bol is, the film, at the end of the day, fails to stir you up.CNN-IBN: Halla Bol is too idealistic! DNA India: Rajkumar Santoshi's Halla Bol undoubtedly has its heart in the right place. It advocates the theory that there is nothing more powerful than public opinion. Glamsham: Rajkumar Santoshi's Halla Bol is a clone of his earlier hit film, Damini. But then, Damini was in a different league and was, so to speak, ahead of its time. Good performances, tight script and brilliant courtroom scenes. Sadly, the same cannot be said here. Hindustan Times: This one should have been titled Halla Bhool! IndiaFM: On the whole, Halla Bol is a powerful film that has its heart in the right place. At the box-office, Halla Bol has the power to grow with a strong word of mouth. Movie Talkies: The most heartening thing about this film is that the director has given a heartful treatment to the subject of public apathy and the corruption in the highe
  • 13 Going On 30 - Movie in 2004 Review
I was browsing my Cds and dvds last night, I came across a movie about fantasy entitled 13 going on 30. I had watched it with my two girls. If I am not mistaken this movie was shown in 2004.A story of a 13 year old young lady and her best friend who became her true love in the end. The young lady wished to become a 30 year old fashionable career woman and it happened because of the wishing dust. Unfortunately, she had her wish but not her best friend. Until she finally realized that she love her best friend more than anything else and decided to wish again to get back and win her best friend back together and correct the mistakes she made with him.I enjoy the movie so much with my kids. It is nice watching such a movie with your kids around because they'll learn from it and value the things that matter most like in the story.
  • "The Kingdom" Movie Review
It was awesome. I highly suggest it. It can be offensive to some who refuse to realize what animals these terrorists are in reality. There is suicide bombings, car bombs, innocent people gunned down, etc. There is an upside though, lots of terrorists get to meet Allah. Here is the plot outline. When a terrorist bomb detonates inside a Western housing compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, an international incident is ignited. While diplomats slowly debate equations of territorialism, FBI Special Agent Ronald Fleury quickly assembles an elite team and negotiates a secret five-day trip into Saudi Arabia to locate the madman behind the bombing. Upon landing in the desert kingdom, however, Fleury and his team discover Saudi authorities suspicious and unwelcoming of American interlopers into what they consider a local matter. Hamstrung by protocol-and with the clock ticking on their five days-the FBI agents find their expertise worthless without the trust of their Saudi counterparts, who wa
  • Snowboarding Movie Review - First Descent (Widescreen Edition)
During the holidays I watched the snowboarding movie First Descent in which five snowboarding icons go riding the big mountains of Alaska. • Welcome movie review-An unwelcome proposition
Welcome may be a hit but that is purely due to the goodwill that Akshay Kumar has enjoyed in the year 2007. Aneez Bazmee’s previous movie No Entry was the biggest hit of 2005 and he decided to do an encore two years later by releasing this movie at the end of the year. Sadly, the movie has nothing new to offer, the humor though situational is insipid and the characterizations are pale. Story: What story? Anyway if you want me to narrate to you an excuse of a story..here it goes. Dr.Ghungroo(Paresh Rawal) who gets slapped around is looking for a bride for his nephew Rajiv(Akshay Kumar). At the same time, Uday Shetty(Nana Patekar) and Majnoobhai(Anil Kapoor) are looking for a prospective husband with a non-criminal background for their sister. Man meets woman (sorry I can’t say boy meets girl for Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif) and they fall in love. Ghungroo agrees to the match but soon backs out while he comes to know that Sanjana(Katrina Kaif) is a sister of the criminal bhais
  • Movie Review: National Treasure 2
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars I am probably the one most excited when they announced National Treasure: Book of Secrets. It’s nice that they decide to incorporate humor into the script (non-history geeks like me would probably fall asleep) for the sequel. I may be a little biased (big fan) on this review. But it [...]
  • Movie Review: I Am Legend
I love Will Smith. I mean that in a very non-homosexual way. Yes, he is a beautiful man in terrific shape, but that's not why I love this man. I love this man because he is one of the best actors that exists today. Something has to be said about Smith's acting abilities, because to ignore his versatility would be an insult to the craft. He can, and does, it all--pretty much at least. He's done comedies, action movies, horror, science fiction, romance, drama, etc. And he does all of them well, mind you. While he certainly has certain "Smith tropes" that follow him in every film (namely his delivery of jokes), he is able to portray a wide range of emotions, some of which I have never seen before (Pursuit of Happiness has yet to be seen by me, so forgive me). Now, to the movie.I Am Legend is possibly one of the most enthralling movies I've seen this year. I had mild expectations for this film, meaning that I expected it to be decent, but nothing worthy of an award or significant r

  • Movie Review: Jangan Pandang Belakang
This movie is a shame. It started out okay but then, it felt a little dragish. There was no real movie plot, just a few scares (or not) here and there, and that was basically it. Nothing nail-biting nor spine-chilling or whatsoever. The thing (I don’t think I can classify it as a ‘ghost’) looked like [...]

The only reason I watched the movie was because the DVD was already in the player. How can you not resist the urge to just press play when you’re sitting comfortably in the chair and don’t feel like moving? Boring. The only reason I am giving it a 1 is because the girl has a weird [...]

  • Blog Movie Review: You, Me and Dupree Film with Matt Dillon, Kate Hudson, Owen Wilson - Comedy
It is about Carl played by Matt Dillon is newly married to molly played by Kate Hudson when his best friend Dupree played by Owen Wilson the character losses his job and ends up homeless. Carl invites Dupree into their house to stay. So many funny things happened while he was staying at the house. Like the toilet scenes and then him with the woman. I laughed so much at this movie I think everyone in the film did a great quality of acting and being humorous comedians in this film. Overall, I liked this movie because it did make me giggle with my smiling amusement which is very important for a comedy film. I thought the funniest parts was in the beginning of the movie it was hilarious. Later in the film it got somewhat boring or too long or it lost its humor but still made me smile with I liked the film alot. The last part it had a nice conclusion to the film I like when movies have a good ending. I loved this film it is one of those movies I could watch over and over again not get tired

  • Transformers Movie Review
I went to see the Transformers movie today. It was awesome and I would/probably will go see it again. There was lots of violence and things getting blown up. The special effects were great. There wasn't really a secondary plot. There was a male likes female part, but it didn't distract from the movie. Anyone who has seen "War of the Worlds" knows how a sub-plot can ruin a movie. The problems I did have with the movie is that it wasn't a continuation of the cartoon series. If you've never seen the cartoons, you wouldn't know any better. I grew up on Transformers and had many of the toys. I will still brag to anyone who cares that I had Omega Supreme. I quit watching the Transformers when they switched to "Beast Wars", because that was just stupid. 1. Bumblebee was a VW Beetle, in the movie he is a Camaro. This is what happens when corporations sponsor a movie. Other Transformers were changed into GM vehicles also. 2. In the cartoon, Megatron was a giant gun. In the

  • Movie Review - Dean Cain Proves He Doesn't Need a Cape to Fly as an Actor
My personal movie tastes are varied, and my satisfaction is not necessarily dependent on typical "good movie" standards. I'm forgiving of what some may call flaws, errors, substandards, story holes, weak plots, campy acting or predictability. My main criteria is basic: does the movie engross me, hold my attention, stay with me and most importantly, entertain me? If I answer yes, then it's a good movie. It's simple. Now to my main point. Dean Cain's performance in the recent Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Crossroads: A Story of Forgiveness, engrossed me. I was absorbed. There is something about the sadness he so richly portrayed that is staying with me. I didn't want to take my eyes off of the scenes that he appeared in. For two hours, I sat entertained. I think Mr. Cain was terrific, and a great fit for this role. I can't imagine anyone else playing the part. Was the movie itself good? I enjoyed it. Was it well directed? I stayed involved and forgot I was watching TV for a couple hours.

Critics gave her a hard time about her acting in it I think they just want to pick on her. However, in my opinion being a fan of hers I actually liked her in this movie I think she acted well in it too. - DVD Employee of the Month - Download Employee of the Month
  • Very Funny Movie Review of Dean Cain's Creature Feature, Boa aka New Alcatraz
I just read a review that made me laugh all the way through it. It was an entertaining and fun read, especially since I could relate to the sentiment of loving the "creature feature" genre, the gas station video rentals...and thinking Dean Cain is under-rated as an actor. The review, written by Zach Whalen, can be found at MaximumAwesome.com - Greatest Killer Animal Movies: Boa. It is punctuated with some funny captions on photos of Dean Cain, the "Underdog action hero--no, action LEGEND!" (Yep, I agree with that, too.)By the way, did you know that Dean Cain is Bulgarian for "smoldering intensity"? Yep, sure is! At least, according to Zach Whalen it is.

  • Movie Review by Jim Heinrich, Apr. 18, 2007: A strong Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation about forgiveness
[Editorial Note: This is a good review of the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie starring Dean Cain, airing on CBS this Sunday, April 22nd]"The off-putting title of Sunday's Hallmark Hall of Fame _ "Crossroads: A Story of Forgiveness" _ suggests a moralizing parable or worse. Yet the straightforward narrative, airing at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS and closely based on a true story, speaks for itself and forces us to contemplate how we would react in a similar situation.Dean Cain ("Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman") plays Bruce Murakami, a Tampa, Fla., contractor whose close-knit family includes a wife, two teenage sons and a young daughter. Early on, wife Cindy and daughter Chelsea head for the mall, and little Chelsea shares the "family rule": When you leave the house, you get a kiss." Read the full review here.

  • The Breakfast Club: a movie review
First, a 500-peso update. If there's one thing I learned this week, it's that I cannot stretch 500 pesos into a week. I barely have 30 pesos left in my pocket today. Oh well, I have to get funding from my coin bank and chase those who owe me. Salary day seems so far, far away ... I think my wife hasn't been reading my blog lately ... I'd better alert her :-). *** "They were five students
