GONZALES - SOLO PIANO (2004)AN UNEXPECTED BRILLIANT ALBUMARTIST`````````````GONZALESALBUM`````````````SOLO PIANOGENRE`````````````SOLO INSTRUMENTALYEAR```````````````2004FORMAT```````````MP3MY VIEW:Short story - this guy got bored with the repetative club/dance/electro scene around him and decided to - play his piano. A truly awesome and personal piece of work.ALBUM REVIEW:Near the end of the old millennium, someone once rapped, "Being futuristic these days means being futuristic on your own terms," which is entirely fitting when said rapper records an album of solo piano instrumentals. (Perhaps less instructive is what said rapper went on to say: "Being futuristic means loving worms, saving your sperm, wearing your pubes in a perm.") The former Chilly Gonzales has a hint of Gershwin in his playing, an urbane, contemplative take on the blues that sometime turns into a wry smile. He also has a hint of Satie, the spare and haunted sound of a music box turning slowly to a halt as it comes
This AP News story tells us about a new single just released by Billy Joel titled "Christmas in Fallujah," in which he asked 21-year-old singer-songwriter Cass Dillon to sing the vocals. As the story notes, Joel thought the song should be sung by someone "about a soldier's age," and he wanted to help someone else (Dillon) benefit from his experience, which is a classy thing to do.The proceeds from the song will be donated to Homes For Our Troops, which builds homes for severely wounded veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. The song also just went on sale Tuesday at iTunes, which is good because I can't imagine that it will get any radio airplay (should, though, of course, maybe on some of the "classic" rock stations...???).Anyway, here it is...
It’s been a good year for concerts, perhaps one of the best I’ve had in a while in terms of big names. I wish I could have gone to more (my hearing and wallet might think otherwise), but I can’t really complain because the shows I saw this year were some of the [...]

CD Review: Artist: Fiona Joy HawkinsTitle: Angel Above My PianoWebsite: http://www.fionajoyhawkins.comStyle: New Age/ClassicalBy Staff Writer L. Anne Carrington As a fan of different types of music, I was especially pleased to get hold of the latest release by Fiona Joy Hawkins, Angel Above My Piano. It is a perfect follow up to her debut work, the award-winning Portrait of a Waterfall; the previous album reached #1 on the New Age Reporter World Charts and was a finalist for the Best Piano Album at the 2005 NAR Lifestyle Music Awards. The opening track of Angel Above My Piano, "Crystal Desert," outlines Fiona Joy's journey across the world's coldest continent--Antarctica--and was inspired by her looking off the front of a boat into the dark clouds and a blizzard, finding a multi-colored sky at the other end of the boat, along with colors reflected in the snow. "Down the Aisle (Wedding March 2)" is perfect for any couple searching fo
Spinet pianos were made by Samuel Blythe as early as 1789 at Salem, Mass. The term Grand was first used in 1777.Abraham Lincoln used Chickering Grand #5070 while at the White House. During 1869 the US produced 25,000 pianos valued at $7,000,000, during 1910 production was 350,000 pianos valued at $100,000,000 ! The term "Tickle the Ivorys" refers to playing the ivory keys of the piano, however, ivory has not been used to make piano keys since about the 1950's (they are plastic, sometimes referred to as "Ivorine"). That there are currently over 50 Brand Names of pianos? During the past 100 years there have been approximately 5000 Brands of pianos placed on the market. Most are still on display in homes or elsewhere. Pianos are made of thousands of pieces of wood glued together to form various parts of the playing mechanism as well as the cabinet. Felt, buckskin, paper, steel, iron, copper, and other materials are also used. Don't forget to visit PianoSuppies.com for piano lamps, bench c
New Music Canada Track of the Day. Grant: "I don't really care too much if a song is in tune, or played perfectly, as long as it has a strong sense of melody, energy and spirit."

I’ve always wanted to play the piano. Back in college, I used to visit a friend’s house so I could practice playing the piano. However, if you see me play the piano today, you'd know I wasn’t that successful. I couldn’t even finish a single song. :hide: Looking back, I realized maybe I made some mistake in trying to learn it myself. I really thought that I would learn by merely looking at the notes and the songbook. I think that to learn how to play a piano; you have to have more than curiosity. I realized all that when I hopped into Piano Chords Blog. It’s a blog that’s updated daily for discussions on piano chords and chord progressions. And you know what’s good about this blog? Well, it also talks about music theory. This is what makes it an interesting read among piano and music students. Let alone a good supplement for someone who’s learning music in college or for someone who’s learning piano through the help of a private teacher. I should be frequently v

They’ve also got free sheet music and videos.
Since they’re not making any profit, they also have a donation button via paypal. If you like this music and use their services, I’d consider donating a bit to help them along.

Some years ago I wrote and delivered a speech for a poorly-constructed communications class. It was the perfect blend of humor and inspiration, serious and satire, and I meant every word of it. The other day, while rifling through old binders attempting to create order in my chaotic academic universe, I happened upon my only copy of it. It's still a true inspiration, and I'm posting it here specifically for those of my readers who know and love the Brown Piano as I do. As a disclaimer, it was delivered as a speech, not a paper, and punctuation reflects melodramatic pauses rather than proper grammar. Also, after years of experience, I have learned that it impossible for a piano to produce a song, for a song has words. In the spirit of authenticity, I have reproduced it exactly as I found it.
You might need a kleenex . . .
