New Xbox Originals: Ninja Gaiden Black, Sid Meier's Pirates! and BLACKFiled under: News, Xbox Live MarketplaceEagle-eyed fanboy MageGriff noticed that on the XBLM, under the Xbox Originals section, are three newly new game additions that are "greyed out". The three new Xbox Original games (all of which do not include Conker or Jade Empire) have a release date set for February 11th and include (trumpets please) Ninja Gaiden Black, Side Meier's Pirates! and the shoot-fest that is BLACK. Again, these three new Xbox Originals are not available for download or purchase until the 11th, but are pretty much a release guarantee seeing that they're currently viewable on the Marketplace. Anyone up for some 1200 Microsoft point Ninja Gaiden?[Thanks, MageGriff] Permalink | Email this | Comments Link - Comments - Dustin Burg - Tue, 05 Feb 2008 13:45:00 GMT - Feed (2 subs) black ninja-gaiden-black sid-meiers-pirates xblm xbox-originals Sent usin
ELSPA: 90 percent of American DS owners are pirates, Us: Huh? [update]Filed under: Nintendo DS Sometimes inaccuracies are hard to spot. And sometimes, they just kind of jump up and slap you in the face. For instance, our truth-o-meter dropped into the red zone when we saw this story from Scotland's Sunday Post in which John Hillier, manager of the Entertainment & Leisure Software Publishers Association's Intellectual Property Crime Unit, says that "In America it's thought 90 per cent of Nintendo DS users are playing pirated games because of R4s."...Ninety percent? Ninety? There are 20 million DS users in North America, and we're supposed to believe that 18 million are dirty, dirty pirates? Listen, one person ripping off a company is too many, but exaggerating the problem only marginalizes it in the eyes of the people you really need to reach: The gamers. We've emailed the ELSPA for confirmation, and we'll let you know what we hear. But if they insist that the 90 percent of Ame

The History of Maritime Piracy
Cindy Vallar, Editor & Reviewer
Pirates & Privateers began in 2000 as a monthly column with an article on Jean Laffite and a list of recommended pirate web sites. Since then, it has grown beyond my wildest dreams, and now includes book reviews and pirate adventures, as well as a newsletter that includes the latest pirate-related news and information. I thank you for your visit and your support.
Within these pages, you'll find articles on all aspects of maritime piracy from ancient times to modern day. Pirate Links is an annotated list of the best web sites that specialize in piracy and life at sea in the Age of Sail. The Bookaneer pages house the reviews on the latest fiction and non-fiction books for children and adults. Other highlights include specialized bibliographies, piratical places to visit, pirate dates in history, piracy quotes, and information about The Rebel and the Spy, my current novel-in-progress that started me on the path
The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A Veggie Tales Movie is an upcoming computer animated movie to be release on theaters on January 11, 2008. This movie is the second feature length film in the Veggie Tales Series. The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A Veggie Tales Movie is a story of three lazy mopping misfits namely Elliot, Sedgewick and George. The three dream of the day where they all quit as busboys at the Pieces of Ate Dinner Theater and be the star in a big pirate show. But, because of Elliot's timidity, George lack of confidence and Sedgewick's laziness their dream are really hard to reach. According to Video Business, the final installment in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series is set to break Blu-ray sales records after selling an estimated 160,000 copies in its first week.Disney has so far declined comment, but if the numbers are correct it will smash the previous sales champ, Sony's "Spider-Man 3", which moved 130,000 copies in its first week.As always however, the sales were tiny compared to standard definition sales, where "At World's End" sold 8 million copies in its first week.Source:HD Digest
Well, I've played some of Pirates of the Burning Sea. Leonardo Mendoza is now a level 6 Freetrader. It probably will not be to everyone's tastes, but for my money, it's absolutely brilliant. It has the potential to be a very deep, interesting game, and I've not yet got to grips with any part of it in depth. But here are some of the things I like about it, so far.The ship handling is utterly fantastic. I was a bit iffy about this in advance; I dislike fiddly or complicated areas of any interface, and I didn't see how it would be possible to do realistic ship handling without that. In fact, the interface is beautifully simple. The up and down arrows - or W and S, if you prefer, raise and lower the sails, and the left and right arrows (or A and D) turn the ship. Depending on your ship and sails, you'll be able to sail at different speeds with, against, or at an angle to the wind. Some cannons can fire at wider arcs than others, so that to fire at your full capacity, you need to be broadsi
So the Pirates of the Burning Sea NDA has been dropped, and I can reveal that I was not in the closed beta. I have, however, got an email telling me I can participate in the open beta, so my PC is currently crunching through the necessary downloads. Obviously, there's not much to tell you about yet, but you can expect a fully detailed account of how things go in the next few days.
My current intention is to play a Spanish Freetrader. I don't want to play a pirate, because I suspect that the pirates will be much the same as the Alliance was in WoW, overly popular, and therefore with more idiots than the other factions. Being Irish, I can't possibly take the British side, it wouldn't be croquet. So it's the French or the Spanish. And really, musketeers and all aside, when you think of swashbuckling, you think of Zorro and Inigo Montoya. So Spanish it will be. The class option is much simpler - since I normally end up dabbling in the economic aspects of a game far more than anything else
Whoever would have guessed that if you put the head of a record shop in charge of a copyright review, the end results would be fixated on trying to preserve the status quo? That's what's happened in France, where Nicholas Sarkozy's government has adopted suggestions from a review run by Denis Olivennes, head of the FNAC chain, that will see tight punishments for file-sharers. A proposed government body will demand ISP user details, with heavy users being investigated on the assumption that they might be up to something wrong. We're not quite sure how the presumption of guilt sits with the usual way things are meant to work.If you're "caught" three times, you'll be cast off the internet. It's not just Olivennes' financial interest in eking out the sale of physical products for as long as possible which suggests he might not have been the most impartial chap to carry out such a review: he wrote Free is Theft which, according to the FT:accused ISPs of exploiting an abundance of pirated mater

I've just spent half an hour reading up on Pirates of the Burning Sea's economy. It sounds like they're going to produce something very close to my Holy Grail of MMOs, an EVE-like economy. Well, my ideal is an EVE-like fantasy economy, but this is close enough to please me, and if PotBC takes off, we're likely to see more games on this model.
Trinity, on female-gamer.com, has a long discussion about the possibilities of the player-driven economy, based on a post by Isildur on the Pirates of the Burning Sea site.
Tobold doesn't agree that such an economy will work, but I'm pretty sure Tobold has never played EVE, where just such an economy is in full working swing.
And then there's a fantastic post by one of the PotBS developers about the invisible price auction model they're going to be using.
From barely knowing the game existed to definite enthusiasm in half an hour; that has to be a record!

Download squad touches on a raw nerve in the blogosphere, the idea of people taking your blog entries, stripping out everything that points back to you, and then passing it off as your own work. The are not the only ones, even groups like IT Toolbox see the same thing, it just all depends on how aware bloggers are when it comes down to this.
Not everyone writes under creative commons licenses, techwag is definitely for profit, we work hard to bust out these articles, and to build up an audience share. But then knowing how slow things can happen, like getting a ranking in Google, or showing up in a search engine at times, the relative merit of what download squad calls blog piracy makes some sense.
Sure they have an Adsense “infested” site, but with the relative click through rates of less than 1%, the only way to really do this is to spread that kind of wealth across multiple blogs, and multiple sites, which will then get nailed by Google bringing everyone’s page ranks down. T
I really hate it when somebody puts together a kick ass argument and then just cops out at the end. This cat put together a great PowerPoint presentation with a point by point analysis of who would win the battle between a pirate and a ninja. The presentation is 39 slides long and covers every aspect of the debate. Then instead of strapping a pair of balls on and choosing a winner he throws a curveball in and just declares “Robots Win!”
It’s like watching one of those shows on the History Channel where they declare they are going to find some lost city. They spend a week showing kick ass commercials that always sucker me in about how they are going to find a lost city. Then I invest an hour of my life into the show and at the end they point at a pile of rocks and say, “Is this the lost city? We will never know for sure but you should decide for yourself.”
No I should not decide for myself. I spent an hour watching your bullshit show so you could tell me if said pile of rocks

If you have never heard of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, read this open letter from Bobby Henderson to the Kansas City School Board. Henderson, who wanted to protest the inclusion of intelligent design in high school curriculum, wrote his letter that he would like his god, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, to be included. According to Flying Spaghetti Monsterism—whose followers are called “Pastafarians”—the FSM really likes pirates, and has been punishing the world with global warming since pirates have disappeared. The proof: Henderson has a chart showing an inverse statistical relationship between the number of pirates and the increase of global warming.
General consciousness about global warming seems to have reached a new critical mass, perhaps thanks to Al Gore’s movie and the growing awareness of green technologies.
But has anyone noticed, while more people become aware of global warming and take steps to com
Apparently not; Both that phrase and the accent that goes with it are strictly Hollywood. They originated with Robert Newton, the actor who played Long John Silver in the movies and on TV through much of the 1950s. Newton was from Dorset, in the Cotswolds district of southwest England, and the regional accent he brought to the movies included a rolled "r." - SlateDid Pirates Really Say "Arrrr"? - Slate
Best movie graphics in 2007? I say it is a toss up between Spiderman III, Pirates of the Carribean 3 and Transformers. I have not seen the Transformers movie yet but I have seen its trailer and I reckon the movie graphics are pretty awesome. I have seen Spidey III and I was more impressed with the graphics more than the plot. There were a few instances though were I felt Spidey was a bit cartoony. The look and feel of some scenes particularly when Spidey swings through the highways did not feel right. I felt like watching a cartoon flick in some of the scenes. But dont get me wrong, the computer graphics is still impressive! Pirates of the Carribean well c'mon. We're talking about the great Jerry here! Let's say I was in awe with the effects and by the time the movie ended, I wanted to become a pirate too!
Digital technology is incredible. I mean, you can recreate lost civilizations, a sinking ship, a giant gorilla or a war from a desktop computer. It is really a far cry from the gra
